New Delhi: India demonstrated the capability of the Akash missile system to simultaneously attack four air targets at a range of 25 kilometers, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said on Sunday. It said India was the first country to have such a capability using a single fire unit.

“India became the first country to demonstrate the capability to engage 04 air targets simultaneously at a distance of 25 km through commando guidance using a single fire unit. The test was conducted by @IAF_MCC using Akash weapon system,” the DRDO said in a post on ‘X’.

It is learned that the capabilities of the indigenous missile system were showcased during the military exercise ‘Astrashakti’ on December 12. The exercise was conducted by the Indian Air Force. The Akash, with a range of up to 25 km, is a short-range surface-to-air missile mainly used to protect vulnerable areas and points from air attacks.

The missile system is one of the major platforms that India exports to friendly countries.

The other major platforms that India exports are Dornier-228 aircraft, 155mm Advanced Towed Artillery Guns (ATAGs), Brahmos missiles, mine-protected vehicles, armored vehicles, ammunition, thermal imaging cameras and various avionics and small arms components.
