A homeless man has built a small house dubbed a ‘ticking time bomb’ after stealing a digger to find ‘treasure’.

Steven Irwin, 41, caused almost £12,000 of damage when he drove up a hill in Seattle city park with an excavator that had become trapped.

He claimed he wanted to dig the ground to find gold.

Irwin was arrested and charged with destruction of property after the incident last October.

But the treasure hunter has now returned to the site and this time built a shoddy hut.

He claims to be digging a ‘mine’ to look for gold, insisting he has permission to be there.

The improvised At home has multiple generators, fireplaces, propane heaters, a washing machine – and even a treadmill.

Andrea Suarez of We Heart Seattle, a homeless group, said KOMO news: “He digs into the hillsides, builds structures, takes down trees, undoes thousands of dollars in repairs.

‘There is also a risk that he is in that environment. There are smells of kerosene, propane and gasoline – there are three different forms of fuel here, wires everywhere.

“It’s a ticking time bomb.”

But Suarez warned that Irwin plans to do more than live on the property illegally.

She said, “He dreams that this is a gold mine, that he’s going to mine diamonds, and that he’s going to find gold and get rich.”

My caravan looks like a small house from the outside, but its game-changing design makes it a real Tardis on the inside –

Irwin was caught by police last October after numerous 911 calls were made by concerned neighbors of Dr. Jose Rizal Park.

Park steward Genevieve Courtney explained Fox 13: “I just happened to run into him when I was coming home.

“He went a little crazy with this heavy equipment. I called 911 and they said, ‘Does he have a gun?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, he has a digger. That’s a gun.’

“It’s scary to see someone driving a big excavator through the park, and it could have been a lot worse.”

Irwin now uses force and hand tools to clear parts of the park during his bizarre mission to find gold.

Neighbors of the park have called on the police to intervene.

Brian Hartman told the outlet: “This guy is just getting away with it, and I don’t understand that.

“We’re definitely frustrated. We need some civility here, we need some police action.”

But Suarez said Irwin has no plans to pack in.

She said, “This is a call to action from law enforcement and Seattle Parks and Recreation to do something.

“I even offered to pay for his first six months of housing, and he said, ‘That’s great. I’ll keep my cabin in the woods.'”
