It takes advantage of an often overlooked iOS feature that comes pre-installed on every device iPhone.

The feature is called Text Replacement and it allows you to quickly insert key phrases and even entire sentences or paragraphs.

For example, you can set up a text substitution so that when you type @@, your email address is inserted.

After the trick was posted in a Reddit thread, one iPhone fan replied, “Oh yeah. A life saver for sure.”

Another user who 'liked' the post replied: 'Take my vote with you.'

Apple itself explains: “Set up a text substitution that lets you enter a word or phrase by typing just a few characters.

“For example, type 'omw' to say 'On my way!'

“It's already ready for you, but you can also add your own.”

How to Create a Text Replacement on iPhone

First, go to an app that supports text input, such as Apple's Messages.

iPhone's 'secret' button lets you take screenshots even faster – and there's a long list of other benefits

Then press and hold the smiley face or globe icon in the corner.

Now tap Keyboard Settings > Text Replacement and then tap the plus sign (+) at the top right.

Type a sentence and text shortcut and save it.

You can also go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement.

Then tap the plus sign (+) at the top right and enter your phrase and shortcut.

Good text replacement ideas could be @@ for your email address, or aaa for your home address.

You can also add your work address, phone number, and an email introduction about text replacements.

Try to think of annoyingly long or complicated words, phrases or sentences that you type regularly.

By setting up text replacements, you can reduce the time it takes to write out these pieces of text.

If you have iCloud Drive enabled, your personal dictionary will be synced with your other Apple devices.

Just go to Settings > [ Your Name ] > iCloud to check your iCloud Drive settings.

If you decide you've changed your mind and want to reset your keyboard, that's easy too.

Just go to Settings > General > Handover or Reset iPhone > Reset.

And then tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

This will delete all custom words and shortcuts and return your keyboard dictionary to its default 'as new' state.
