The deputy head of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayyas, reached Cairo today to attend ceasefire negotiations, which began yesterday in Doha, Qatar.

A senior US official has said the path to a ceasefire is “easy” as two sides prepare to resume talks. Sky News reports.

straightforward. And there’s a deal on the table.

There is a framework agreement. The Israelis have more or less accepted it.”

“The responsibility now lies with Hamas.”

It comes after the terror group received a draft proposal from the Gaza peace talks in Paris, a key source close to the discussions said on Tuesday.

US negotiators EgyptAnd Qatar has drafted the proposal that includes Hamas releasing hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners and a six-week ceasefire.

Israel is said to have provisionally accepted the deal, which would begin with the release of wounded, elderly and female hostages.

It is understood that Hamas has been studying the proposal over the past week and could reach an agreement with Israel today.

But the deal could still fail because Hamas has yet to make its demands known, it is feared.

The proposed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is explained

HAMAS has received a draft proposal from Paris for a pause in fighting and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for Israeli hostages.

A source close to the ceasefire talks told Reuters that the first phase of the proposed deal would last 40 days, with conditions including:

  • Prisoner-hostage exchange at a ratio of 10 to one
  • Both sides completely halt their military operations
  • Aerial reconnaissance operations over Gaza stop for eight hours a day
  • All 40 Israeli hostages released in exchange for 400 Palestinian prisoners
  • Gradual return of all displaced civilians, except men of military service age, to the northern Gaza Strip
  • After the start of the first phase, Israel is repositioning its forces away from densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip
  • Commitment to deliver 500 trucks of humanitarian aid per day
  • Commitment to provide 200,000 tents and 60,000 caravans
  • Allow the rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries in Gaza, including allowing the access of equipment and providing fuel for these purposes
  • Israel agrees to deploy heavy machinery and equipment to remove debris and assist with other humanitarian purposes
  • Israel provides quantities of fuel shipments for humanitarian purposes that are increasing over time. Hamas promises not to use the machines and equipment to threaten Israel
  • It is clear that the arrangements agreed in the first phase will not apply to the second phase, which will be the subject of subsequent and separate negotiations.

American president Joe Biden said Israel is ready to halt its military activities in Gaza during the Muslim month of fasting Ramadan – but only if an agreement is reached on the release of the hostages still held by militants.

He expressed hope that a temporary ceasefire to end the carnage in Gaza could be possible “next Monday.”

During the temporary pause, negotiations for the release of the remaining hostages held captive by militants would continue.

“My national security adviser tells me we are close,” Biden told reporters on Monday.

‘We’re close. We’re not done yet.

“I hope we have a ceasefire next Monday.”

He said in an interview: “Ramadan is coming and the Israelis have agreed not to engage in any activities during Ramadan either, to give us time to get all the hostages out.”

The president’s appearance came hours before details of the draft proposal were reported by Reuters.

Senior American official

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has sparked global concern as Israel’s allies have warned it must protect civilians in the ongoing battle against Hamas.

Just a few days ago, dozens of Palestinians died after being crushed by humanitarian aid trucks Entering North Gaza.

The Israeli army said residents surrounded the trucks and looted supplies before running them over.

But health authorities in Gaza claimed the victims were shot dead by Israeli forces on Thursday as they waited for an aid delivery.

Officials estimate that at least 104 people were killed and more than 280 injured in the tragedy near Gaza City.

The IDF’s chief military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, said troops began firing warning shots because they felt threatened.

He said: “We have not opened fire on those seeking help. Contrary to allegations, we did not open fire on a humanitarian aid convoy, either from the air or from land.

“We secured it so it could reach northern Gaza.”

An Israeli government spokesman initially said victims died when aid trucks driven by Palestinians drove into the swarm of crowds.

However, an Israeli military official later claimed that the victims were killed in two separate incidents when a convoy of trucks entered northern Gaza from the south via the main coastal road.

The second incident is said to have occurred hundreds of meters north of the stampede, near the north-south checkpoint.

After the trucks passed the coastal road, people who “posed a threat” approached the Israeli forces, who then opened fire.

The White House is also investigating reports of Israeli fires and described what unfolded today as a “serious incident.”

A White House National Security Council spokesperson said: “We mourn the loss of innocent lives and recognize the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where innocent Palestinians are just trying to feed their families.

“This underlines the importance of expanding and maintaining the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including through a possible temporary ceasefire.”

Shortly after the honor incident, Washington announced it would send vital aid to war-torn Gaza, which could be on the brink of a deadly famine, as warned by the United Nations.

And yesterday, three American C-130J Super Hercules cargo planes dropped 38,000 meals and other humanitarian aid in the war-torn country.
