ITV viewers have slammed the channel for airing celebrity ‘woke’ messages during the National Lottery’s New Year’s Eve Big Bash on Sunday.

The programme, hosted by Alesha Dixon and Jason Manford, featured a number of performances from Busted, Take That and Becky Hill.

However, some fans were not happy after a special two-minute clip was played showing several stars talking about the dangers of climate change.

The video contained messages from Idris Elba and Olivia Colman with Hollywood actress Glenn Close speak about the need for urgent action to save our planet.

Several ITV viewers were less than impressed, claiming New Year’s Eve was not the time for ‘woke’ messages, or for being ‘lectured’ by wealthy celebrities.
