Child prodigy Jackie Evancho reflects on the pressure to be ‘perfect’ and fight her ‘demons’ in the music industry 14 years after she rose to fame with America’s Got Talent

Jackie Evancho shares new wisdom with her fans.

The 23-year-old singer, who stunned the panel on The Masked Singer in May, exposed herself in a very different way in a heartfelt video shared on Instagram on Monday.

“Recently I discovered something I’ve always had… my voice,” she wrote alongside the post.

The hitmaker wore a long-sleeved black top as she sat in what appeared to be her bedroom.

Speaking to the camera, she told her 102,000 followers that “it took me a while to work up the courage to do this.”

“Growing up in the industry is challenging,” she said.

“Don’t get me wrong, there are some wonderful things about it and I was blessed to be able to do what I love most and make a living that way, but… one of the problems I run into is the lately the need is to be perfect.’

The Songs from the Silver Screen artist who burst into the music world at the age of nine spoke about some of the pitfalls that come with tackling a career at such a young age.

She finished second on America’s Got Talent in 2010 and became the youngest Top 10 debut artist in history with the release of her O Holy Night EP.

Jackie appeared on the 2011 National League of Junior Cotillions list of the ten best mannered people of 2011 for “displaying humility and courtesy as a young performer.”

That same year and again in 2012, the Somewhere singer was listed on Billboard’s 21 Under 21: Music’s Hottest Minors.

In 2018, she made it onto the Forbes 30 under 30 list of musicians.

The platinum-selling singer explained that as a result of the focus on perfection, “it’s created this deep pressure in me that I put on myself to this day.” I kind of believe it’s partly to blame for my disordered eating, my anxiety, and all those other things on the list.”

To answer some of these frustrations, the singer and songwriter introduced a new song to her fans, one she wrote and created herself with Garage Band.

The song is called Get Out of My Life, which is at the end of her Instagram video.

“This song is exactly about this subject. You know, all those people in my life telling me what to do and telling me I’m worth nothing if I’m not perfect. So the song is basically saying “get out of my life.”

Jackie said if the people from her past listen to the song, “they’ll know who they are.”

“It’s a bit of a confrontational video and that’s okay. Sometimes we have to confront our demons and that’s exactly what I do.’
