Jennifer Lopez in ‘Overwhelming’ Golden Globes Moment with Brie Larson

“It brings tears to my eyes now because it’s very moving because you put your heart and soul into this when you’re an artist,” Lopez, 54, said Zane Lowe in an interview on Wednesday, January 10 for Apple Music 1.
Lopez and Larson, 34, met on the red carpet of the awards show on Sunday, January 7. When interviewed before the ceremony, Larson saw Lopez from afar and immediately burst into tears of admiration as she talked about how the “On the Floor” singer has inspired her over the years. Larson’s heartfelt response Lopez understands all too well.
“I remember being a little girl and watching and seeing West Side Story Rita Moreno and knowing what that meant to me,” Lopez told Lowe. “When I looked at Brie and I saw her, I just stared into her eyes because she was so locked in with me and just [was] like, “I’ve wanted to tell you this for so long.”

Lopez explained that she saw herself as a “little girl” in Larson and that realizing the effect she had on the Marvel star became a truly “overwhelming” experience. “I could have really taken my time, but it was really nice to have an experience like that,” she said, noting that she never expected she would be an inspiration to any of her peers.
“I don’t think I ever thought I would have an experience like this with someone who is so talented and who I watch their films and who is my contemporary in a way,” she continued. “It was a really nice thing she did, and it meant a lot to me, probably even more than it did to her.”
The interaction clearly meant a lot to both women, with Larson beginning her praise by talking about how Lopez’s early work changed the trajectory of her life.
“I saw Selena and it made me want to be an actor. And you always meant so much to me,” Larson said of the 1997 film, to which Lopez responded, “Oh my God, don’t make me cry.”
Larson told Lopez that meeting her was a “dream” she had had for years, then explained why Lopez has made such an impact.
“Your work ethic is so important,” the Oscar winner said. “Thank you. I’ve been wanting to say that to you for a long time, so I’m really… I didn’t think it would happen now.”
Lopez’s exchange with Larson (who was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her Apple TV+ series Chemistry lessons) wasn’t the only viral moment when the Marry me star had this year’s Golden Globes. During a red carpet interview with Entertainment tonightLopez turned to husband Ben Afflecks paparazzi photos that often circulate online because his unimpressed expressions feel relatable to fans.
“Ben is doing well. You don’t have to worry about Ben, just let me tell you,” Lopez told the outlet. “He’s good. He’s happy. He’s here – he’s nominated. I’m chilling, I don’t understand what people are pushing for so much.”
She added: “They don’t notice my face.”

Lopez attended the awards ceremony in support of Affleck, 51, whose 2023 film Sky was nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. The sports biopic ultimately lost to the Emma Stone-led black comedy Poor things. However, Lopez was just happy to be there by her husband’s side.
“He’s my biggest fan and my biggest supporter, just like I am of him, and I’m so happy to be here tonight because he’s nominated,” Lopez said during Variety And AND’s official red carpet pre-show.
