Jennifer Love Hewitt experienced ‘a lot that no one knew about’ in 2023
Jennifer Love Hewitt talks about her life over the past twelve months.
“This year I continued [sic] a lot that no one knew about,” Hewitt (44) wrote on Instagram on Sunday, December 31, alongside a selfie. “And was grateful for that privacy. I had a great time being a mom at home with my children.”
Hewitt, who shares her three children with her husband Brian Hallisay, shared that she has learned to “be a better baker,” and that “it’s okay to take time for myself mentally, physically, and emotionally.” She added that she had “prayed and manifested a lot,” “bellied more than ever before,” and had “the longest cold” of her life.
“Was forced to have more faith than usual,” she continued. “I learned to love exercise as a benefit to my mental health. I took risks on myself and my bigger dreams. I am deeper in the sadness and was able to let go more. I felt my mother around us and saw signs that that was the case.” (Hewitt’s mother, Patricia, died of cancer in 2012.)
Hewitt added that she was “saying goodbye to the things that don’t serve positivity in my life” and “making room for a lot of good things in 2024.”

“I celebrated 10 years with my husband,” she wrote. ‘I have a few tattoos. And really let me learn everything I needed to learn. And so here I am. Happy, blessed, grateful and full of hope. I will pray that our world becomes better this year and that everyone sees less pain, fear and heartbreak. Love to everyone and Happy New Year!”
The 9-1-1 star made headlines this year for her outspokenness about aging in the public eye. After sharing a selfie on Instagram in September, Hewitt was deemed “unrecognizable” by fans.
“I was doing my hair and I didn’t have a scrap of makeup on, so I threw on a filter. I really didn’t think about it,” she recalled during an episode of the “Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum” podcast earlier this month, adding that some people accused her of using social media filters because she didn’t want her followers “know how bad she actually looks now, in her forties.”

“This is insane,” she said, adding that the judgment was heightened after she deliberately tried to pose for fun using “over-the-top filters.”
“Then they came after me for that,” she said. “They said, ‘Well, now she’s just defending herself,’ and, ‘Why is she defending herself?’ I realized that I can do no right.”
The Criminal minds actress said the incident made her realize that fans “have a moment where they fall in love with you” and “that’s who they want you to always be.”
“And there’s something very beautiful about that, but there’s also something very bad about that,” Hewitt said, adding, “Becoming a parent in Hollywood is very difficult because you can’t do anything right.”
