The Princess of Wales looked as radiant as ever as she attended Buckingham Palace’s diplomatic Christmas reception this evening.

Accompanied by King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales, Kate, 41, took center stage in a rose gold Jenny Packham ‘Georgia’ dress worth around £5,000, which was embellished with sequins.

Kate paired the stunning ball gown, which she previously wore to the wedding reception of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Princess Rajwa in June 2023, with a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order sash.

To add to the glamour, Kate wore the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara. The dazzling tiara with diamonds and pearls once belonged to Princess Diana, Prince William’s mother.

It was kept in a safe at Buckingham Palace after her death in 1997 before being presented to Kate. The tiara, which Diana said was so heavy it gave her a headache, was made in 1914 by royal jeweler Garrard to Queen Mary’s personal design, from pearls and diamonds already in her family’s possession.

The royal mother of three opted for a stunning pair of HM’s Greville diamond chandelier earrings to accompany her outfit.

Kate went for a glam makeup look for tonight’s event, complete with a smokey eyeshadow look.

The princess’s glossy brunette locks were kept back from her face with the help of the Lovers Knot Tiara.

It will be seen as a sign of loneliness following the furor of Omid Scobie’s new book on the monarchy after it emerged that a Dutch-language version contained the names of two family members accused of ‘unconscious bias’ by the Duchess of Sussex.

The book claimed that Meghan, Prince Harry’s 42-year-old wife, had mentioned the king himself, as well as his daughter-in-law Kate, 41, in letters she wrote to him about the matter.

Buckingham Palace has not commented publicly, but aides have made it clear that the king and his senior advisers are “considering all options” open to them regarding the baseless claims, including the possibility of legal action.

However, they are comforted by the sympathetic public response they have received to the ‘revelations’ in the poorly reviewed book and may decide to let that speak for itself.

Tonight’s event saw the King, his heir and their wives greet the great and good of the diplomatic corps – ambassadors, high commissioners and the like officially registered with the Court of St. James’ – for a pre-Christmas drinks in the State Rooms from Buckingham Palace. .

As head of state, the King plays a crucial role in British diplomacy and supports the work of the Foreign Office at home and abroad.

The event will also have been the first time the King has been able to speak to his son and daughter-in-law in person since the latest row surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke out.

Sources have told the Mail that the family will be in “no rush” to make a “carefully considered” decision on how to proceed.

Earlier in the day they were also on their way on a series of assignments.

William surprised shoppers when he was spotted selling copies of The Big Issue at a Tesco in Hammersmith, West London.

The prince was reunited with magazine salesman Dave, who he has met several times and even exchanged Christmas cards.

Salesman Dave Martin told Mail Online: ‘William came over in the morning and helped me sell some magazines. He’s a very nice man.

‘It was a nice gesture to help me sell the magazines. It’s very good that he helps the homeless. You can tell he does it because he cares.”

Meanwhile, his wife met a little girl whose space-themed designs for a new pediatric surgery unit were inspired by her late father, who she says has now “gone to the stars.”

The princess chatted to nine-year-old Ella Moth, who won a competition to design the artwork for the new ward at the Evelina Children’s Hospital in London.

She was inspired by the tragic death of her father Piers, who died of brain cancer in 2021.

The Princess, patron of Evelina London, asked Ella: ‘How does it feel to have your design on the wall for other children to enjoy and be a source of inspiration for many other children? Ella replied: ‘I didn’t think this would ever happen!’

The new facility, which cost £55 million to build, will allow children to be treated in one location on the same day, reducing the stress caused by numerous hospital visits.

In the recovery room, she met Saya Stephenson, four, who was resting in bed that morning after surgery to remove excess skin from her ears.

The princess hugged her mother, Miwa Stephenson, who said she was concerned about the operation, despite it being a relatively minor procedure.

Kate responded, “It’s always a concern for a parent though. We must remain calm. It is so hard.’

Evelina’s chief executive, Gubby Ayida, said: ‘With everything happening in the NHS at the moment, including long backlogs, the Princess’s visit has brought a feel-good factor to every room she visited and to all the staff.’
