Kate has made a third of her royal engagements within 12 miles of her home at Windsor Castle since becoming Princess of Wales in September, analysis shows

  • Only 18 of her 61 working days since September have been near Windsor
  • The royal couple have also visited Massachusetts and Northern Ireland

As the mother of three young children, the Princess of Wales knows how difficult it is to juggle the demands of family life with her duties as a senior Royal.

So it’s understandable that many of her public appearances since she became Princess of Wales have been very close to her home at Windsor Castle.

An analysis by The Mail on Sunday shows that nearly a third of her working days – 18 out of 61 – since assuming her title in September have been within 12 miles of Adelaide Cottage.

Last week, for example, Kate, 41, visited the Windsor Family Hub on Tuesday and the Maidenhead Rugby Club, seven miles away, on Wednesday.

One Royal watcher quipped, “Maybe Kate should be titled Princess of Slough!”

Another source said: ‘It has been noted that there are an awful lot of jobs for both Kate and William near their home. But they have always said that the children come first, so it goes without saying that they want one of them to be present during the school run.’

In January, the couple visited Windsor Foodshare, a food bank just a stone’s throw from their home, while the following month Kate met with staff and residents at a nursing home in Slough, less than five miles away.

On 1 March, William and Kate celebrated their first St David’s Day since becoming Prince and Princess of Wales at Combermere Barracks in Windsor, watching a parade of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards. Although they did visit several locations in South Wales the previous day.

The royal couple have made visits including a three-day visit to Boston, Massachusetts, and a one-day visit to Northern Ireland.

Dickie Arbiter, the Queen’s former press secretary, said: ‘She’s a working mum and the kids will come home. Like any mother, she wants to be there for them. Diana did the same.’

The princess has previously urged bosses to recognize the importance of a good work-life balance for parents.
