LORD Jacob Rothschild has died at the age of 87, his family has announced.

The financier was a British colleague and member of the Rothschild banking family.

His family has been at the top of the financial world since the 18th century.

Rothschild and his family reportedly give away £66 million to Jewish causes, education and the arts.

In a statement, the family said: “Our father Jacob was a great presence in the lives of many people – an outstanding financier, a champion of arts and culture, a dedicated public servant, a passionate supporter of causes in Israel and Jewish culture, a avid environmentalist and beloved friend, father and grandfather.

“He will be buried in a small family ceremony according to Jewish custom and a memorial service will take place at a later date to celebrate his life.”
