Madeleine McCann suspects Christian Brueckner underwent surgery to remove birthmark on his thigh after alleged rape, it is claimed

MADELEINE McCann's main suspect Christian Brueckner had surgery to remove a birthmark on his left thigh after an alleged rape, it has been claimed.

Brueckner47, had it deleted to avoid being identified after the knife attack on student Hazel Behan, who had narrated it Police where it was located, prosecutors allege.

Officers found scars at the spot described by Irish Hazel, a holiday representative at the time, and, in a major breakthrough, discovered the birthmark on an earlier scan of Brueckner, who is serving seven years for rape.

A source said: “When Brueckner was examined during his current captivity, they found a scar where the birthmark should have been.

“Then they went through the archives again and found a body scan of Brueckner, taken by German researchers. Crucially, photographs were taken of his entire body and at this time he had a significant mole on his left thigh at the hip.”

The evidence against the German pedophile has been presented to judges.

Brueckner is said to have previously spent £7,500 resetting his jaw and straightening four 'rabbit teeth' four months after Maddie disappeared in Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve in 2007.

Shortly afterwards, a police sketch showed a man with buck teeth seen near the McCanns' holiday apartment.

Brueckner will go on trial next week for the 2004 rape of Hazel, now 39, in nearby Praia da Rocha.

He denies it, as well as other alleged sex crimes, in Braunschweig, Germany.
