Bhopal, MP: A shocking incident of police brutality has emerged in the Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh, where officers reportedly dragged a woman on the hood of their car for nearly half a kilometer as she tried to save her son from arrest on drug trafficking charges.

According to reports, the incident took place on July 3, Monday, when a special squad of the Madhya Pradesh Police arrested the female son, Sonu Kahar, a suspected drug peddler, from his home in the Gotegaon area of Narsinghpur district.

Witnessing the scene, Sonu Kahar’s mother, Mohini Kahar, quickly rushed to save her son and urged the police to release him. Unable to convince them, Mohini jumped on the hood of the police car and refused to budge despite attempts by the police personnel. The policemen drove on for more than 500 meters until they reached the police station with Mohini still clinging to the hood of the car.

The incident was caught on camera and sparked online outrage after the video was shared on social media platforms. The viral video showed Mohini Kahar being dragged onto the hood of a white Maruti Suzuki Swift by police personnel.

How the incident unfolded

Speaking to PTI news agency, Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police (SP), Amit Kumar, said a police team had gone to Gotegaon city on Monday to arrest drug peddlers after receiving a tip-off. “When police personnel took two suspects to the police station in a car, a woman held on to the hood of the car,” he said.

According to reports, SP Amit Kumar had given instructions to the Goonda squad of the Madhya Pradesh Police to crack down on the rampant drug abuse in the Gotegaon area and the alleged involvement of some police officers in the illicit drug trade.

On Monday night, a team of Sub-Inspectors Anil Ajmeria and Sanjay Suryavanshi, Constable Neeraj Dehria and another officer raided Sonu Kahar’s home and reportedly found 20 grams of smack worth Rs 3 lakhs.

However, Sonu’s mother, Mohini, tried to intervene and begged the police to let her son go. The police officers remained unperturbed after which Mohini, in a desperate attempt to save her son from arrest, jumped on the hood of the car and did not let go, forcing the police to drive to the station while holding on.

The shocking incident was caught on camera by a bystander and quickly went viral on social media, prompting action against the police personnel involved in the act.

SP Amit Kumar said he has suspended the three police officers following a report from the deputy SP, adding that a departmental investigation has also been launched against the accused men.
