Peggy continued, “It's affected my mental health and it's taken me weeks to come to terms with it, but because it's Valentine's Day I can't pretend I'm okay.

'Thank you to everyone who has supported us and our journey… No one is more upset about it than me x.'

It comes just days after the couple revealed they were planning to get married in real life after meeting on the Channel 4 show.

The couple were matched by the expert for the experiment last year, but hit a rocky point during the series.

Georges struggled with the lack of physical intimacy he received from Peggy, with the couple not sleeping together on the show.

Meanwhile, Peggy struggled with her family and doubted their romance.

After a cliffhanger in the episode Final Vows, Peggy talked about how she trusted Georges to “prove anyone who doubted you wrong.”

She said: 'This is by far the biggest decision of my life. My family wants the best for me, and family and respect for me are everything. They want me to be happy and put myself first. As much as I wanted to trust you, to me, trust is something you earn.

'I may not trust easily, but I do trust myself. And I also trust that you will prove everyone who doubted you wrong. So my decision is to stay and continue our story together.”

Yet the pair have appeared stronger than ever in recent weeks, as they recently revealed they wanted to take their relationship to the next stage by getting engaged and starting a family.

Georges said Closer magazine in an interview published last week: 'The plan is to have children. It's clear that we should stay together, live together and get engaged.

'She lives at home, I live with me. I would let her move in with me, but she has so much stuff.”

The couple previously sparked fears their romance was over when they were noticeably absent from social media last year, but they took to Instagram to confirm they were stronger than ever in November last year.

Peggy wrote: 'CONFIRMED: We are still together! We ditched the sharing and smothering of social media to give ourselves some much-needed quality time after the show ended.

“Although we are in a relationship, we still have our own identity and individuality; that makes us so strong.

“As cliche as this sounds, we want to thank you all for your patience – it hasn't been easy, but sharing our journey with you means the world because your continued love and support means the world to us.”
