Whipped up in love! Maksim Khmerkovskiy And Peta Murgatroyd are a match made in dancing heaven.
The couple met on Broadway in 2009, but it wasn’t until their paths crossed again Dancing with the stars that they started dating in 2012. Three years later, Ukrainian dancer Murgatroyd proposed marriage while performing on stage in December 2015.
“I never thought we’d be together,” the New Zealand native shared exclusively Us weekly in February 2019.
The Faith, hope and love actress commented that when she met Chmerkovskiy, dating “wasn’t even a thought that crossed my mind.”
However, the couple came down the aisle in July 2017, with both a small ceremony at City Hall and a party with 300 guests in New York in the same month.
“It was beautiful. He made me cry,” Murgatroyd said Us of her husband’s vows, noting that she said she wanted to be with him “till we’re old in a rocking chair together.”
Chmerkovskiy revealed that when the couple kissed at their grand ceremony, “a giant rainbow came out [and] people have lost their s–t!” Murgatroyd added: “I couldn’t believe it when I turned around. It was great – perfect timing.
The couple, who welcomed their first child, son Shai, in January 2017 prior to marriage, have continued to evolve as a couple.
“You’re getting closer,” said the Murgatroyd Us in March 2019. “From the delivery room to bringing it home for the first time, to sharing those special moments.”
As the married dancers continue to raise Shai together, Murgatroyd revealed in June 2022 that she suffered three miscarriages while trying to expand their family.
“It’s traumatizing and he’s the one closest to me,” she shared exclusively Us in July 2022. “So he goes through it as often as I do, so to speak. It did bring us closer together. When you go through something like that, it’s just an ultimate bonding session. … When you get to that crossroads and make those big decisions, it’s so important to make them together and move forward together as a family unit, and I feel like we’ve done that.
The founder of Peta Jane Beauty and the Masked dancer finalists have since been candid about their fertility struggles while undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
‘I haven’t really had any really good friends of mine [IVF] for both, so I’m not privy to the process. But I’m hopeful,” she said Us that July. “I really want a girl… and [Maks is] really want that bond with one baby [as opposed to twins]. I think we’re both nervous about trying to balance two, with how we can share the love and be there for each baby.
