Moment Who Wants to be a Millionaire contestant calls his wife for help, but is confronted by another male voice

The Phone a Friend option on Who Wants to Become a Millionaire? is always full of tension, as participants place their chances in someone else’s hands.

But in one episode, the man was even more dramatic when a contestant called his wife to help him wrap a huge check – only to hear another man’s voice.

In a resurfaced clip from 2020, Lincoln-based JP Morgan used the Phone a Friend option, hoping his wife would help him raise £16,000, but was instead stunned when another man apparently answered the call.

Seconds after JP pressed the number, he was confronted by a male voice, although it appeared to be an automated message before Elizabeth finally answered.

Alarmed, star presenter Jeremy Clarkson said: ‘That was a man who just answered your phone.’

Realizing that his comment had panicked JP, he continued, “But rest assured, it could be completely innocent.”

When she answered, Jeremy asked, “Can I just confirm that someone is with you?”

The science teacher struggled with the question, “Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?” when he decided to use the handy calling feature.

The four options presented to him were Donnerstag, Mittwoch, Sonntag or Dienstag, before he was asked to call his wife Elizabeth, who has close family ties to Germany.

JP said: ‘My wife’s aunt has lived in Germany for over 50 years, my wife has been there a few times.

“My wife, who at other times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a Friends.”

Shocked viewers quickly took their thoughts to YouTube, where the clamp has reached just under 350,000 views.

One joked: “Cheers to all of us who gathered here to find out if his wife is cheating.”

Another added: ‘That was the most awkward Phone A Friend ever. When the host asked her to confirm if she had anyone with her, I died’.

YouTube users were quick to report the hilarious moment – and there was still plenty of hysteria left when presenter Jeremy Clarkson jokingly hinted at an affair with player JP’s wife Elizabeth, who cheated on me, although it turns out the male voice was probably was an automated message

A more practical user agreed with his theory: ‘I realistically think it was an automated service and there was a little connection problem lol’.

And another user speculated: ‘She didn’t say she was indeed with someone and later said sorry too.’

Another joked: ‘Looks like he’s worried the money he wins will go towards alimony.’

Some were unimpressed with host Jeremy: ‘Truly a bunch thrown under the bus for a cheap laugh.

“Now people will bring that up with the couple even after the show ends.”
