Their bodies were discovered by their father in December last year after he broke into the house, it is said.

Alexander appeared via video link at the Old Bailey today wearing a t-shirt that read: “Love”.

The mother, who denies two counts of murder, was taken into custody ahead of a scheduled trial on March 4.

The court learned that the two children were last seen alive on CCTV footage with their mother on December 15.

Police were called around 2pm the next day because Marley and Elijah's father was concerned about their well-being.

Prosecutor Philip Evans QC previously said: “He had entered the house and forced his way in. He was told the children were sleeping upstairs.

“But when he went to look for them, he discovered that they were clearly deceased and cold to the touch.

“He called 999 and an ambulance arrived and found the children deceased.”

The court heard that no post-mortem results had previously been obtained, but initial findings suggest the boys could have been smothered and drowned.
