A mother whose toddler suffers from severe eczema is calling for donations to fly her son abroad for life-changing treatment.

Ines Dias, 22, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, hopes the Gofundme Page will help her son, Gabriel, three, beat the condition that has plagued him since he was just one month old.

Ines said it is “heartbreaking” to watch her only child go through what he went through in his early years.

She revealed: “There’s the bullying, the disgusted looks and the many questions every day.

“Gabriel’s eczema is so severe that fluid flows from his face day and night.”

Gabriel was born in May 2022 and a month later began to show signs of eczema.

It slowly got worse and after six months dry skin covered his whole body – from head to toe.

Ines has taken Gabriel to countless doctors and dermatologists over the past three years, and even to a private clinic.

Tests and examinations confirmed that he has a very severe form of eczema.

But unfortunately, none of the treatments offered could provide long-term benefits.

Ines said: ‘We were given antibiotics and cortisol which worked for a few days, but then it all came back.

“I can’t even sleep with him because his condition gets worse at night and that’s when he scratches the most.

The hot weather also makes everything worse. “It’s really heartbreaking to see him like this.”

WHAT IS ECZEMA?

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy, red, dry and cracked.

Atopic eczema is more common in children and often develops before their first birthday.

However, it can also first appear in adults.

Eczema causes the skin to become itchy, dry, cracked, painful and red. Some people only have small patches of dry skin, but others may experience widespread red, inflamed skin all over the body.

From NHS UK

“I’m currently sleeping up to three hours in the morning because I’m taking care of him for the rest of the night.”

Now Gabriel has had the chance to undergo a new treatment in Portugal, which Ines hopes will change everything.

The doctor in question is a specialist who uses indigenous Portuguese plants and natural creams to treat skin conditions and burns.

Thanks to money raised through her Gofundme page, Ines was able to take her son to the doctor earlier this year for £4,000 initial treatment.

The treatment has been quite successful, but Gabriel needs to have follow-up sessions every three months to bring tangible long-term benefits.

The cost of subsequent travel and future treatment sessions is significant – so Ines has reached out again in a plea for funding.

So far she has raised almost £4,000 which she hopes will help her son get better.

Ines said: ‘I have been in touch with a doctor in Portugal who says he can help Gabriel – but it will take a year to get the best results.

‘Any help is really welcome. It will give me more strength – and a little bit of hope.”
