Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are locked in a head-to-head battle for the Republican nomination after Ron DeSantis dropped out on Sunday.

Trump heads into the second leg of the Republican White House race with a double-digit lead and looking to repeat his landslide victory in Iowa.

The Democrats are also holding their first primaries. Joe Biden is not on the ballot, but his supporters have launched a write-in campaign to ensure he is not embarrassed by long-shot opponents including Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson.

Follow below for every key update from another crucial evening in the run-up to the 2024 general election.

Trump's previous record in New Hampshire — and what a win here could mean

Trump won the Republican primary in New Hampshire in his first bid for president in 2016, but some of his allies lost key races in the midterm elections two years ago.

Haley also faces an opponent who has deep ties to the Republican base and has focused on winning the state decisively enough to effectively end the competitive phase of the primaries.

If successful, Trump would become the first Republican presidential candidate to win open races in Iowa and New Hampshire since both states began leading the electoral calendar in 1976 — a clear sign of his continued hold on the party's most loyal voters.

  • Trump's supporters, on the other hand, say: country, America or border.
  • The results of our exclusive poll illustrate how one figure dominates the entire Republican nomination race, motivating not only his supporters but those of his opponent as well.

Donald Trump, the frontrunner in the Republican race, is on track for another historic victory, just a week after his landslide in the Iowa caucus.

News networks and the Associated Press projected the former president as the winner after just 30 minutes.

Ron DeSantis was second, followed by Nikki Haley in third, before dropping out of the race completely this weekend.

Vivek Ramasmway suspended the campaign shortly after the race was called and endorsed Trump.

Will Nikki Haley be a thorn in Trump's side in New Hampshire?

Donald Trump is aiming for an impressive victory in New Hampshire, securing victory in the first two Republican primaries, making a November rematch with US President Joe Biden seem more likely than ever.

The biggest question is whether Trump's last major rival, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, will be able to eat into his margin — or pull off an outright upset.

Ms. Haley has devoted significant time and financial resources to New Hampshire, hoping to appeal to its famously independent-minded electorate.

In the first results released early Tuesday, all six registered voters in the small resort town of Dixville Notch had cast their votes for Ms. Haley and not Trump. The city is the only one in New Hampshire this year that has chosen to vote at midnight.

The six registered voters of tiny Dixville Notch are in New Hampshire all cast their votes Nikki Haley at midnight on Tuesday, giving her a clean chit on the former president Donald Trump and all other candidates.

  • The resort town was the first place in the country to vote in the 2024 primaries.
  • Voters were outnumbered more than 10 to 1 by reporters from all over the world – not to mention the stack of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
  • Dixville Notch has a tradition of first-in-the-nation voting dating back to 1960, with results announced just a few minutes after midnight.
  • With such a small sample of voters, the results are generally not indicative of how an election will end. But they do create an early curiosity.
  • In previous elections, a few other small New Hampshire towns also voted at midnight, but this year Dixville Notch went it alone.
