Nick Jonas says Malti’s ‘naughty’ humor comes from Priyanka Chopra

Nick Jonas And Priyanka Chopra Jonas‘daughter, Malti Marie, is the spitting image of her mother – and the rock star wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It’s so encouraging to interact with people like that [who don’t take themselves too seriously]” Jonas, 31, said during the Friday, November 17, episode of the “Read the Room” podcast. “I’m not talking about self-mockery, [but] like walking into a door, it’s funny. It’s not like, “Haha, you’re an idiot.” It’s like, “We love you and we’ve seen it all.” I think it’s a very nice quality to have in people. And of course my wife embodies that to a great extent.”

Jonas — who married the 41-year-old actress in December 2018 — further noted that he admires how Chopra Jonas “doesn’t take himself too seriously,” which has already been passed on to 10-month-old Malti.

“We now see it reflected in our daughter in a brilliant way,” Jonas marveled. “Her sense of humor and her ability to laugh at situations, and even her mischievous attitude, it’s amazing.”

Podcast host Cavanaugh Jameswho has been friends with Jonas since they grew up in Texas, said Malti “always smiles” when he visits the Jonas family.

Jonas and Chopra Jonas welcomed their first baby via surrogate in January 2022. Malti spent nearly 100 days in the NICU at a local hospital before she was able to return home with her parents.

“Once you have a child, you quickly realize that you can’t control everything,” Jonas added on Friday. “I think this was the biggest lesson for me at a stage in my life that I didn’t expect to learn. … You know, we went through some very difficult months at the beginning of her life and you have that vision [of] how it will go throughout your life, and then it is something completely different. Then every day is completely different and brings its own challenges.”

Since Malti was released from the hospital, Jonas and Chopra Jonas have been doting on their little girl. Malti even joined her parents on her father’s Jonas Brothers tour, which kicked off in New York City in August.

“I think this [new wrist injury] comes from holding our daughter. I do things like this where I become her chair and she just points to where she wants to go,” he joked during the podcast. “She likes to look ahead when she is being held and does not like a hug. It’s like you’re her ride. And now that she’s getting bigger, thank goodness, when I felt a pain in my wrist yesterday, I tried to figure out where it came from. “Oh, it’s the baby’s fault.”
