Popular comedian Kalabhavan Haneef dies due to respiratory problems

Popular comedian Kalabhavan Hanef who appeared in more than 150 Malayalam films besides numerous TV serials, passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Thursday. He was 60. He had breathing problems and was rushed to a hospital on Wednesday, where his condition deteriorated and he died in the evening. The actor started out as a mimicry artist and has been into mimicry since his school days. In the mid-1980s he joined the then hugely popular group Kalabhavan and hasn’t looked back since and soon rose to fame as an actor.

His long-time friend and fellow artist Ramesh Pisharody said Haneef was a gentle person and was loved by everyone. “He never complained that his role was small and short. It was never the length of his roles because he did well and was therefore a popular artist,” said Pisharody.

His latest release ‘Garudan‘ is currently running to a packed house.

The last rites will take place on Friday in his hometown of Mattancherry, near here.
