The news is by your side.

I work at Primark and have to live on energy drinks and fold the same clothes rack ten times a day – but I get the first penny on all the bargains

A Primark employee has shared some behind-the-scenes insights into what it's really like to work in a clothing store.

The unnamed employee, who works in the Romford branch in east London, talked a lot about what an average shift is like.

The budget clothing brand has 191 stores across the UK and employs 29,000 staff.

Many will be used to going to the basic store in search of reasonably priced clothes.

In the videoposted to the TikTok account @primarkeastldn, an employee revealed what really goes on behind the cash registers.

According to the employee, she gets a 'discount' there to spend on clothing – and shares it with family and friends.

While she didn't reveal exactly how much, the comments say it's about 10 to 15 percent for full-price items. However, others said you can only use the discount three times a year.

She also added: 'I work at Primark – of course I get the first discount on any bargains', showing that she can get the new items before the customers themselves.

Wearing the blue shirt with the 'I heart Primark' design, she added: 'We love our uniform' – although she suggested she was joking by rolling her eyes.

And if you think a shift at Primark simply involves scanning hundreds of items at the checkout, the TikTok-savvy employee has shown that's far from the truth.

She said she “goes to the bathroom” 20 times a day – apparently an excuse to take a break from clients and take out her phone instead.

The employee also expressed her frustration at having to fold clothes on the same table “ten times a day.”

She also admitted that she constantly has to call her manager for help.

However, she gets through the shift by “living on energy drinks,” proving her point with a can of Monster.

And unlike many clothing stores that charge a fee for a tote bag, Primark offers free paper bags.

The video has clearly attracted a lot of interest and has been viewed more than 400,000 times.

Someone in the comments said: 'Working at Primark was the worst experience of my life.'

Another appeared laughing and said: 'Do you get a discount? I didn't do that when I worked there.'

MailOnline has contacted Primark for comment.
