It has been lovingly handmade and is a moving reminder of the time when Harry was still in full royal circles.

But this birthday card also contains a hint of a future no one could have ever imagined for the young royal family.

It is decorated with a heart in the colors of the American flag and the words ‘Love Harry’ also feature a stars and stripes motif.

The card, which goes on sale Wednesday at Dominic Winter Auctioneers, is believed to date from 1987 or 1988.

The auction house’s website states: ‘Nicki, the recipient of the card, received this birthday card from Harry when he was three or four. Diana told her that Harry had made it special (but possibly with some help from Diana).”

The auction house stated that Diana told the recipient of the card that Harry had made it special. In the photo: King Charles, Diana, William and Harry

It adds that it is made of ‘folded dark gray paper with colored paper cut out of circles, diamonds, hearts, etc., pasted to the front and inside pages, and ‘Stars and Stripes’ capital letters reading ‘LOVE HARRY’ neatly pasted to the right inside page’.

The card, which has an estimated value of between £1,000 and £1,500, is one of many royal memorabilia for sale.

Other lots include a signed 1987 Christmas card featuring Charles, Diana, William and Harry, plus a 1990 letter signed by Diana expected to fetch £1,000.

It was written to Anne-Marie of Denmark, wife of Constantine II, the last king of Greece, who died earlier this year.

A 1992 letter to Reg Spinney – who served as a bodyguard for William and Harry – could fetch up to £3,000.

Diana wrote: ‘I wanted to let you know how deeply we have all appreciated your wonderful (and undoubtedly challenging!) work over the past five years. William and Harry were lucky to have you by their side.”
