prince william and the British troops prepare to celebrate King Charles III at the Trooping the Color with a special training on Saturday 10 June.
The 40-year-old Prince of Wales was present on horseback, where he led the formal assessment of the Welsh Guards for the first time. William, since becoming the Prince of Wales in September 2022 when his father ascended to the throne, has been the regiment’s colonel.
The Duke of Cornwall gave a peek at the military officers and their plans for the annual event shortly before several people passed out. While the crew stood at attention in front of William, one of those guards collapsed in the street. A group of four men quickly carried him away on a stretcher. Moments later, a trombonist from the Band of the Welsh Guards also became dizzy while playing his instrument and fell down without letting go of the brass. A few moments later, the trombonist stood up on his own.
The Duke of Cambridge – who shares three children with his wife Princess Kate — issued a personal note, praising the unit for their participation despite the overwhelming heat.
“Many thanks to all the soldiers who participated in the Colonel’s Review this morning in the heat. Difficult circumstances but you all did a very good job,” William wrote via Twitter on Saturday. Thank you.”
One second tweet read: “Today the Colonel’s Review of the King’s Birthday Parade. The hard work and preparation that goes into an event like this is a credit to all involved, especially in the current circumstances.”
The parade took place in London, where the temperature reached 28 degrees Celsius.
