Quay Park Regis Hotel: Couple forced to sleep in Brisbane hotel lobby after discovering cockroaches and bedbugs in their room

A young couple was forced to spend the night in a hotel lobby after discovering some unwanted guests in their room.
Benjamin from Melbourne and his partner booked a one-night stay at the four-star North Quay Park Regis Hotel on the Brisbane River, near the CBD, on Saturday evening.
It was meant to be a last romantic evening together before embarking on a long-distance relationship.
But the romantic getaway quickly turned into a nightmare after they returned to the room after dinner and opened a bar of chocolate in front of the TV.

“My girlfriend went to take a shower, but when she came back to the couch she said, 'What the hell is that?'” Benjamin said The courier post.
“I looked down and saw that there were actually two cockroaches on the chocolate eating it.”
The couple managed to catch some of the cockroaches in a glass.
They were shocked to discover what appeared to be a bed bug crawling on their pillows.
“I thought, 'Oh God, there's no way,' and I squashed it and pulled the bed halfway open to see if there was anything else there,” Benjamin told Yahoo News.
'I couldn't see anything anymore, but I saw a few black dots. I didn't really know what to look for because this is the first time I've come across it.'
They tried calling the after-hours staff and Booking.com, the site they used to book the room, but were unable to reach anyone.
According to Benjamin, all hotels in the area with a 24-hour lobby were already fully booked.
The couple ended up sleeping in the lobby.
“I ended up getting 30 minutes of sleep while all the people were coming in and out of the hotel from partying,” Benjamin said.
Hotel management group StayWell Holdings general counsel Richard Doyle said staff tried to contact the on-site concierge outside of hotel business hours but were unable to reach the concierge at 2am.
“We accept this as a failure on our part,” Mr Doyle said.
'The guest could not be moved within the hotel because all our other rooms were full.
'Our staff will normally assist guests in finding alternative rooms if there are any issues, but this is difficult if issues arise at 2am.'

The couple managed to catch some of the cockroaches in a glass.
The couple were promised a full refund the next day.
However, Benjamin claimed online Monday evening that they have not yet received compensation for the nightmare.
A Park Regis spokesperson added that prior to this incident there had been “no cases of bedbugs or cockroaches, including from guests staying in the same room the night before.”
“But in response, we had the entire hotel disinfected.”
Benjamin posted an update on Reddit on Monday, claiming he had quarantined his luggage in case it became infested with bed bugs.
“All my clothes are in the freezer and my bags are in bigger bags under the hot sun,” Benjamin wrote.
He has since reported the incident to authorities and filed a complaint with StayWell about compensation.
“Hopefully no one else in that hotel will find themselves in this situation,” he added.
