“BJP government cannot take away our right to speak”: Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at the BJP government during the INDIA block protest at Jantar Mantar, saying the Center cannot take away the right to speak given by the Constitution.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “As per our Constitution, everyone has the right to speak. When we make an announcement (in Parliament), we don’t even get a chance to read the announcement. Should I say that the BJP government is not allowing a Dalit to speak? You cannot take away our right to speak. This freedom was given to us by Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. You suspend opposition MPs and pass laws without opposition. We must fight together.”

Mallikarjun Kharge said the BJP is making the wrong claim that the opposition is destroying the country.

“They say the opposition is damaging democracy. 146 opposition MPs were suspended and all laws were passed without opposition. The three criminal laws adopted will inconvenience the citizens. They did the same for farmers and workers. We must be united. Whenever there are elections, our party workers are threatened through the ED, CBI and income tax officials. The opposition will not be deterred by these raids,” he added.

Leaders of India’s National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc staged a protest under the banner ‘Save Democracy’ at Jantar Mantar here on Friday.
