Rob Brydon has refused to rule out a Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special for 2024.

The actor, 58, who plays Uncle Bryn, was speaking on Radio Four's Today program on Saturday and was asked about speculation that the popular show will return.

Gavin and Stacey are reportedly at the 'center of a bidding war' as the BBC and Netflix feud over the sitcom.

Following reports the iconic drama will return this Christmas for the first time in five years, sources claim streaming giant Netflix is struggling to steal it from the BBC, which has been broadcasting it since 2007.

Rob was asked by host Nick Robinson whether the public's desperate wish for the show's comeback will come true.

He said: 'As far as I know it's just another rumor. Don't know. I mean, I would love it if it were true, but yeah.”

Nick joked, “that seems like a yes to me.”

Rob replied, “Is that so?” as the pair found themselves laughing at the end of the interview.

There is a lot of speculation about the show's return as The Sun reported that there was a bidding war.

A source said The sun: 'It's clear that the show has a special history at the BBC, and this seems its natural and obvious home.

“Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore has spoken to the couple and made it clear that she wants the show to continue, but Netflix has also made it very, very explicit that they want to air it.”

The insider added that the streaming company's CEOs, Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, are “extremely excited” about being able to top the BBC's offer, but that Ruth and James are “not” about the money.

They said: 'It would be a huge coup if Netflix stole this flagship British comedy from the BBC's nose, and there could indeed be a world in which this happens.'

But according to show co-creator Ruth Jones, the British sitcom will not return for a Christmas special.

Welsh actress Ruth, who starred and co-created the show with James Corden, confirmed on RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday that it was 'unfortunately a rumour'.

Asked about the reports, she said: 'Apparently there's a bidding war going on between the BBC and Netflix and I love it because it says 'a source says' who is this source?'

Jones added, “It's unfortunately a rumor… All I can say is, if there was something to say on that front, James and I would be happy to announce it, we would.”

The actress, who played Nessa in the much-loved show, revealed she thinks the rumors arose after she was photographed having lunch with Corden a few months ago after he returned to Britain after living in America.

“Then the next thing is, 'Oh my god, they need to write more Gavin and Stacey,' which is beautiful,” she said.

“It's wonderful that people are so desperate for it, because imagine if it was the opposite and they were like, 'Oh God, you're not bringing that back.'”

On Tuesday it was claimed that a new episode of the much-loved BBC sitcom would be filmed this summer and shown at Christmas.

Viewers couldn't contain their excitement after the announcement, begging for 'no more cliffhangers' and for all the old ones to be resolved.

Previously, the series returned for a Christmas special in 2019, but ended on a breathtaking cliffhanger when Nessa – played by Ruth – got down on one knee and proposed to her on/off flame Smithy – played by James.

Elsewhere during the special edition, fans were more desperate than ever to find out what really happened on THAT infamous fishing trip.

After years of not knowing what happened, it seems Uncle Bryn was willing to reveal what led to him and Jason arguing during the trip during the celebratory family gathering.

The couple was gifted a photo of themselves together, which, unbeknownst to Gwen (Melanie Walters), who gave them the gift, was taken during the fishing trip.

Bryn (Rob) and Jason (Robert Wilfort) both fell silent immediately as the mysterious events of the trip came back to them.

Fans have long hoped that James' decision to move back to Britain after his eight-year stint as host of The Late Late Show in the US will increase the chances of a new episode.

And after James was spotted meeting co-creator Ruth in London's Soho in November 2023, speculation went into overdrive.

Deadline reports that most of the cast will return for the special, including Matthew as Gavin and Joanna as Stacey.

Previously, James told the RTS Cambridge Convention that he felt 'forced to come home' after leaving The Late Late Show after hosting 1,000.

He hasn't stopped interviewing celebrities, though, as his new venture, called This Life of Mine with James Corden, has already scored top guests like Martin Scorsese, Kim Kardashian and David Beckham.

He also admitted that he didn't know if he would do more Gavin and Stacey, but emphasized that he would “love to do something together again” with Jones at the convention.

Meanwhile, Gavin and Stacy's fans went into meltdown earlier today when news of a Christmas special emerged.

One wrote on X, formerly Twitter: 'GAVIN AND STACY AHHHHHHHHH'. Another said: 'Gavin & Stacey is back?!?! OMG, I suddenly feel so much better!!!' A third said: 'OMG YES'. A fourth wrote: 'Gavin & Stacey back for a Christmas special! OM and G!!'
