Mehler Protection says they developed the ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton in collaboration with the GIGN, the elite tactical police unit of France's National Gendarmerie.

The SAS-like GIGN are involved in missions that can include counter-terrorism, hostage rescue and tackling organized crime.

The suit is designed to increase survivability by providing high-level ballistic protection and to meet the needs of law enforcement officers, military professionals and security personnel.

Equipped with a flexible spine, a sliding hip belt and articulated hip, knee and ankle joints, the kit provides up to 99 percent ease and freedom of movement.

It also redistributes up to 70 percent of the wearer's tactical load from the shoulders to the ground. The goal is to lighten physical strain and reduce injuries so operators can focus on their tasks.

Daniel von Chamier, Group Director of Sales at Mehler Systems, says: “We have used our expertise to develop a product that not only effectively redistributes the load, but also increases survivability with the highest level of ballistic protection and full body coverage offers up to VPAM 8.”

The VPAM scale for performance standards for body armor means that the ExoM must protect against three armor-piercing incendiary shots fired from approximately ten meters away.

Mehler says, “The ExoM exoskeleton revolutionizes the experience of military and law enforcement personnel who face extended wear and tear on heavy equipment and demand high-level ballistic protection.”

The Exom functions as a passive exoskeleton and operates without the need for external power sources.

This feature makes it perfect for longer missions or remote locations, eliminating the need for heavy batteries and charging equipment.

The makers have also strived to make it as light and flexible as possible
