Rosamund Pike accuses the wellness industry of “cheating” the public and controlling women

The wellness industry “cheats” the public and is a way for women to be controlled, Rosamund Pike claimed yesterday.

The 44-year-old actress said the #MeToo movement had helped women, but now they let themselves be dominated in this “different guise.”

She warned that this type of lifestyle industry had “politicized eating and exercise” and was dangerous.

Mrs Pike stars as Hugh Laurie in a new BBC podcast drama People Who Knew Me, which features satirical references to Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop in the script.

Ms Pike, a former Bond girl and star of Gone Girl, told The Observer: ‘We are all being ripped off by the wellness industry.

The actress (pictured), 44, said the #MeToo movement had helped women, but now they let themselves be dominated in this ‘different guise’

“This idea that it is no longer enough to be healthy and that we have to be ‘good’ is something that needs to be questioned.

“Yet it’s so tempting because it pursues things people are ashamed of, like youth, beauty, and fitness.” #MeToo gave women the chance to escape the demands placed on them.

“Now people are voluntarily coming back to get checked in a sense, but in a different guise because of these health claims.”

Valued at £198 million, Goop has made Ms. Paltrow more famous than her acting career.
