The supermarket shelves are already full of Easter treats and it won't be long before the chocolate price war starts.

However, Sainsbury's shoppers could start snapping up bargains as early as next week.

The supermarket has revealed that from next week all large eggs will cost £2 for customers with a Nectar card.

The offer starts on Wednesday 14 February and runs until Tuesday 20 February and is available online or in stores.

This equates to a saving of more than £1 on the current price of some chocolate treats.

Sainsbury's shoppers are already getting excited at the prospect of an early Easter deal.

One person said: “I think I might have a few in my shopping cart.”

Another said: “Thanks, I'll have a look at it next week.”

While a third said: “Great deal.”

Currently, customers can purchase a large Cadbury Mini Egg Easter egg for £3.25.

But next week the same egg will cost £2 for Nectar cardholders, making a saving of £1.25.

The same offer applies to Cadbury Twirl, Crunchie, Wispa and Creme Egg, all of which currently cost £3.25 on the website.

The British retail apocalypse: why your favorite stores keep closing

Nectar cardholders can also collect points while shopping in-store and online.

You'll receive one loyalty point for every £1 you spend at Sainsbury's.

You'll also get one point for every £1 you spend on fuel bought at Sainsbury's petrol stations. You can also collect points from hundreds of partners, including Esso and eBay.

The Nectar Card also gives customers exclusive discounts on hundreds of products, just like a Tesco Clubcard does.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

All you have to do is swipe the card every time you shop and points will be added to your account so you can get cash on future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5 cents, which means you need 500 points to get a €2.50 discount.

Remember, it's always good to shop around to make sure you're getting the cheapest deal.

The closer we get to Easter, the more likely it is that other retailers will compete to be the cheapest in an attempt to get your money.

You can use shopping comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the cost of items from different sellers.

Also keep in mind that there's a chance you might get a different offer in-store than online, so keep your eyes peeled.

In the meantime, we can reveal where the cheapest place to buy Easter eggs is this week.

We checked the price of some of the most popular Easter eggs in all the major supermarkets, including Tesco and Asda.

Asda is the cheapest place we could find to sell a Dairy Milk Twirl Easter egg.

The chocolate treat comes with an Easter egg inside and a chocolate and orange twist for just £4.50.

The supermarket also has an offer where you can double up for £8, making a £1 saving if you buy two.

When it comes to mini eggs, the cheapest place to buy the Mini Easter Egg set is Tesco, which costs just £1.20 for Clubcard customers.

Sainsbury's and Asda are the cheapest at £1.25 and Morrisons is selling the mini egg treat for £1.50.

Aldi is also selling a Toblerone Easter egg dupe that costs almost half of the original.
