Do you consider fashion essential or luxury? For most of us, companies like Saint Laurent and Prada are far beyond our financial reach. But even the High Street can give you a shock these days. Since when is Zara so expensive?!

All this makes you wonder if you should buy those perfect leather boots you've been eyeing for weeks instead of paying for your gym membership? Or if you had to buy that beautiful tailor-made coat with the money you wanted to put aside for your next holiday this month.

Well, what if I told you that you can buy designer lookalikes without sacrificing a dime of your savings. In fact, you don't have to go to a crowded shopping center for this. Instead, just pick up a fashion favorite while doing your weekly shopping.

Yes, supermarket fashion has undergone a serious upgrade in recent years and they take their inspiration straight from the catwalks.

A black tweed jacket is an iconic piece of clothing. But while a Saint Laurent offer costs £3,050, you can pick up double that at Tesco for £22.50. Okay, the buttons may be a bit of a giveaway for those with a keen eye for fashion, but for that price, you can look for vintage buttons at a thrift store and sew them on yourself to take the style to the next level.

Max Mara vs Asda

A camel coat is another classic, as everyone from the Princess of Wales to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley can attest. Max Mara offers the holy grail of camel coats, and while it's hard to match the structured silhouette and sharp lapels of their £950 coat, the formal long coat from George at Asda will offer the same look at a glance for just £34 .Plus, it's machine washable, so you don't have to go to the dry cleaners.

Last year we saw the rise of denim skirts and that is still the case in 2024; Tesco's straight F&F style with a front slit, £19.50, would be difficult to distinguish from the £310 design from fashion-conscious denim label Agolde.
