Gallons of blood turned the ocean water red as the shark writhed desperately to free itself or get into the cage for the final and fatal attempt.

The lifeless body of the great white was then seen slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

The shocking clip on X/Twitter was viewed more than 13 million times, leaving some users shocked.

One wrote: “That's awful. I hope they fix the cage so sharks don't get stuck like that again.”

“I don't think the bars should have such a big gap, for the people too and not just for the sharks,” another added.

A third user commented: “I feel sorry for the shark, it was clearly struggling to get free.

“I don't want to say I would want the people to be eaten, but they are the direct cause of preventable death.”

It comes after a dramatic video emerged of the terrifying moment a shark attacked a group of tourist divers in the Maldives.

The huge fish approached one diver before moving on to the next, slamming into each with its powerful head and snout.

A Cayman Islands spearfishing guide, Cameron Kirkconnell, shared the clip with him Instagram page as a reminder to his 126,000 followers to keep their wits about them while diving.

He captioned the video: “Shark diving fun in the Maldives.

“I don't want my Instagram to be full of this, but this was a great example of people getting into a situation they thought was right. It wasn't.”

Mr Kirkconnell clarified that the video was not his own, but that he used it to call for a ban on tourists diving with sharks.

According to reports, the attack took place recently in the Maldives and involved divers with little experience sharks.

In the video, which was shared by locals to Telegram news channel MvCrisis on February 3, the divers were reportedly filmed moments after trying to free a shark entangled in a rope or net.

It is clear that no one was seriously injured.

Meanwhile, a 'terminator' shark was seen thrashing about in the water after chewing a large chunk of a man's leg in a shallow river.

Hitesh Govari did not notice the beast before it was attacked during his daily swim.

The four-foot-long bull shark clamped its jaws on the 34-year-old fishermen's leg.

He managed to fight off the huge predator, but then lost consciousness.

The horrific attack happened after the shark entered what is believed to be shallow waters during high tide.
