A dusting of snow as the next round of Arctic air moves east

Another wave of cold air will move east Friday and Saturday, and ahead of this arctic air, cities like New York will get another dusting of snow on Friday, which will most likely make for a slippery commute, especially in the evenings.

Several inches of snow will fall in parts of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic States and the Northeast. Snow totals should remain on the mild side, with two to four inches in most places and some pockets of about half a foot in the mountainous regions of the Central Appalachians.

After finally ending the snow drought this week, New York will see another day with more than an inch on the ground. Snow may start light in the morning, but will increase and become more widespread as the day progresses. This will be an all-snow event for the area, but where the heaviest snow will accumulate is still a bit uncertain.

High temperatures on the Plains and in the South will be 20 to 25 degrees lower than normal on Friday. While it won't be as cold as the outbreak in the Arctic earlier this week, it will still be colder than many people in those areas are used to. The cold will continue across the Plains on Saturday and trickle south and east, with temperatures dropping below average along the East Coast.

Temperatures will begin to moderate across the country on Sunday. By the middle of next week, temperatures will be near or above average across most of the United States, with most major cities in the country seeing high temperatures above freezing again.
