NOTHING says “I love you” like a Valentine's Day card you poured your heart into.
So make sure your loved one feels extra special on February 14 by making one yourself.
It will cost less and mean so much more. Here are some ideas to get you started.
FUN AND CHEESE: A simple card with a nice message will make your significant other smile.
Search an old puzzle for two pieces that fit together and stick them on a regular card with the message: “We fit together perfectly.”
Alternatively, you can stick some birthday candles on a card, cut the wicks and draw heart-shaped flames in them, with a cute note like, “I noticed a spark between us.”
PAPER HEARTS: All you need is a piece of paper to show your love. Make an origami heart by following the instructions on origamiway.com. There are also video tutorials on YouTube.
Stick the folded heart on a plain card and add a moving message.
CHARMING PRINTS: If you're less artistic or want to get the kids involved, download a Valentine's Day card template.
You can find a free selection in the ideas section of the Hobbycraft website or at redtedart.com.
Print them out, stick them on a card and then decorate them with pens, glitter, poms-poms and craft feathers.
MAKE IT PERSONAL: If you make your card by hand, you can add a secret slogan that only you and your loved one will know.
It could be a joke about where you first met – 'You Brighton my day' – or a play on pet names.
Make the card shine with homemade ones heartsor try old-fashioned potato prints.
Cut a heart shape from a spud, dip it in gouache and stamp it on.
STRIKING DESIGN: Score extra points by creating a multi-dimensional map.
The layered 3D heart card at easypeasyandfun.com is a winner and only costs pennies to make.
All you need is scissors, glue and other colored paper.
