Customers will have to head to Nightingale Place in Dulock Park to do their weekly shopping.

The renovations are hoped to improve the shopping experience and add more inventory to supermarket shelves, an Aldi spokesperson said.

They said: “To provide Dunfermline customers with an enhanced shopping experience, the Aldi store on Halbeath Road will close on Sunday, February 18 to undergo an exciting refurbishment.

“We will reopen our renovated Aldi store in May.”

Disappointed locals took to Facebook to express their anger at news of the store's closure.

One angry shopper wrote: “F***sakes, I have to go all the way to Duloch.”

Another said: “What do we do now?”

“Ah, I'm not going to miss this until it opens back up,” a third added.

However, shoppers can be excited about the store's renovations, which will bring some needed updates to the store.

Some customers speculate that the store will add more self-checkout services and one customer hopes that the renovations will also include the addition of “an in-store bakery.”

The budget supermarket chain planned to temporarily close some of its stores, angering many consumers.

The Aldi store in Thetford closed its doors on October 14 and reopened a few weeks later.

Still, people were so upset that they threatened to boycott the store's reopening.

Similarly, Aldi closed another branch in Sheerness city center in November.

However, Aldi has confirmed that its customers will not be without a store for long.

The retailer announced plans to open its new £9 million store in Neats Court, Queenborough, in April.

The new multi-million complex is located opposite the Queenborough retail park and will be a third larger than the existing building with 134 parking spaces – 59 more than in Sheerness.

After the major retailer opened its 1,000th store, Aldi announced plans for its next phase of expansion, which will include a further 500 stores.

The retailer said: “It is a long-term goal and does not put a ceiling on our ambition to have an Aldi store close to everyone in Britain.”

However, as Aldi hopes to expand, many other popular retailers have struggled in recent years.

Energy costs have risen and more consumers than ever are choosing to order online instead of going to the store.

This leaves some retailers struggling with budgets and having no choice but to close stores to cut costs.

Homebase closed a store last year, leaving just 93 stores since its acquisition by Hilco Capital in 2018.

Poundstretcher closed several stores last year, but also opened new stores in closed Wilko stores.

Even charity shops are struggling. Oxfam confirmed last year that it would close eight of its UK stores.

Clintons, Boots, HMV and Halfords are among the chains closing their stores.
