SZA threatens legal action against those who leak her unfinished music online: ‘You’re a thief’
SZA alerts people that she will not tolerate thieves stealing her unfinished music and leaking it online.
Although the singer-songwriter has been very open and honest about her feelings on the subject in the past, the I Hate U star reiterated her stance on social media, but this time she threatened to take legal action.
On Saturday, January 6, SZA took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to bash those who would steal her music before she had a chance to finish certain songs.
‘MY MUSIC SEEMS IS STEALING. THIS IS MY WORK . THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY,” she wrote in all caps to let people know she means business.
“YOU ARE A THIEF AND I PROMISE TO PUT MAXIMUM ENERGY INTO HOLDING EVERYONE RESPONSIBLE TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. I’M TIRED.’
SZA, 34, is taking a tough stand against anyone who steals her music and leaks it online
The Grammy winner is just one of many artists whose unfinished music has been leaked online, which is a hot topic for SZA.
“When people leak my songs, they ruin them. Then it is no longer mine; it’s actually yours,” she stated during an interview with Variety last November.
“It’s something unfinished that you decided was ready to be shared.”
Leaking her music, which is sometimes done to force the artist to officially release new songs, can have the opposite effect.
“And it’s like, ‘F*** you. Now I’m not releasing it. Play your leak, but you’re not going to make me drop music.’
She added, “I am now ashamed of this incorrect version you released. You creatively sent me into a strange space when you could have just waited for me, but you’re selfish.”
SZA (born Solána Imani Rowe) leads the pack of Grammy nominees for the upcoming ceremony with nine nominations, including Album Of The Year for SOS and Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for her hit Kill Bill.
She previously won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2022 for her collaboration with Doja Cat on Kiss Me More.
SZA first gained recognition through her self-released extended plays (EPs) See.SZA.Run (2012), S (2013), and Z (2014).

After falling from the top of the chart, SOS eventually returned to the number one spot for another three weeks, making it a chart topper for a total of 10 weeks.
Of the six singles released on SOS, SZA earned her first number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 with Kill Bill.
