Celebrity Big Brother fans have urged bosses to send Jedward and Gemma Collins into the house to confront housemate Louis Walsh. 

Scandal erupted in the famed house when the talent show judge, 71, said that twins John and Edward Grimes, 32, were ‘vile’ in a conversation on the show, prompting the singers to hit back with a fiery exchange. 

When the scenes aired, Jedward were at former TOWIE star Gemma’s home, where the trio hit back on social media – something fans recalled this week. 

Taking to Instagram ahead of Friday night’s final, fans demanded the brothers and reality great are sent into the house, with users writing: ‘Big Brother are losing out on TV gold if they don’t send Gemma Collins and Jedward to confront Louis Walsh’. 

Another viewer wrote to Jedward: ‘Happy St Patrick’s Day to u both. U two and Gemma Collins should be in the CBBUK house instead of Louis’, while another fans echoed: ‘Or WITH Louis, now that would be good craic!’ 

The new demands come after Louis came under fire from Jedward after his scathing attack on Celebrity Big Brother, with the singing duo brand him a ‘snake’. 

The talent show judge, 71, said that twins John and Edward Grimes were ‘vile’ in a conversation on the show, prompting the singers to hit back with a fiery exchange. 

And now Jedward, both 32, have again slammed the former talent manager as part of a post for St Patrick’s Day. 

‘Happy Paddy’s Day,’ the duo posted on X, formerly Twitter. ‘Hope St.Patrick slays Louis the snake.’

Former contestants of the ITV singing competition leapt to Jedward’s defence this week after Louis’s comments on CBB, hitting out at him on X. 

Katie Waissel, who has previously claimed that her stint on the show back in 2010 ‘ruined her life’, accused Louis of being part of a ‘manipulative and coercive’ environment behind the scenes. 

In an impassioned tweet on Wednesday, the show star stood up for Jedward as she doubled down on her claims that a public inquiry should be launched into the programme. 

Katie shared: ‘@planetjedward firstly, having met you both personally, I can unequivocally state that you are by no means ‘vile’ , if anything you are both absolutely the contrary to this! I stand firmly behind you in your corner, always…

‘What I wish for the general public to take from this, is that Louis Walsh, former XFactor judge, has confirmed and revealed on national television, the tip of the iceberg of abuse, manipulation and coercion that went on behind the scenes on the XFactor, of which myself and many others have spoken publicly about.

‘By stating he (Louis Walsh) made £5million off of Jedward, immediately after calling them ‘vile’ and stating that they made ‘great tv’, in itself, only but further confirms how the show was disturbingly manufactured and manipulated. 

‘This is not the first time a former judge has disclosed contradictory and manipulated tactics to secure contestants, all in the while, completely unbeknownst to the contestants themselves. 

‘All contestants were lead to believe they entered a singing competition, as did the general public.

‘There are serious and significant issues that need to be addressed, and further remedied, by all parties involved in the making, producing and broadcasting of the now cancelled show, XFactor, as well as a public inquiry to be held, to ensure the future of music and television is protected through their findings, to update policy, regulation, and legislation. #CBBUK #LouisWalsh #Jedward [sic].’ 

As one one follower suggested they would like to see Katie and Jedward enter the Big Brother house to confront Louis, Katie revealed she had already approached them, tweeting: ‘I verbatim asked production to give me just five minutes.’ 

Steve Brookstein, who won the inaugural season of X Factor in 2004 with Simon Cowell as his mentor, also didn’t hold back with his criticism of Louis, claiming he had now been vindicated in branding the star a ‘c***’. 

He tweeted on Tuesday: ’20 years ago I said Louis Walsh was a c*** and only now people are realising it. Better late than never.’

Steve has not been shy of sharing his thoughts on Louis and fellow X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne during their time on Celebrity Big Brother, previously sharing: ‘If people saw Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh for what they are – they wouldn’t be watching #cbbuk.’

Soon after the comments aired on ITV, John and Edward took X to dispute Louis’ claims and branded him a ‘cold-hearted b****d’.

Colson had asked Louis, who managed the pair four four years: ‘What were Jedward like?’

The Irishman replied: ‘They were vile.’

Colson said: ‘They’ve done well’, and Louis said: ‘I got £5million from them. I swear on my mother’s life.’

Clearly impressed, Colson quipped back: ‘B****y hell, I wish I had a Jedward.’

Doubling down on his opinion, Louis added: ‘And they were vile. But they were novelty. It was great for the show. It was all about the show.’

That saw the brothers – now 32 – launch into a series of scathing online accusations in response.

They kicked off by calling him a ‘cold-hearted b****d who didn’t even send us flowers when our mom died’ – the twins lost their mum Susanna to cancer in 2019.

Following the music manager’s remarks, Jedward insisted that ‘justice would be served’, as they continued the tirade on their X account.

One of the tweets shared by the brothers claimed: ‘Louis Walsh is an evil manipulator who forced us into an office to pay £70k from our bank account to one of his own PR workers.’

Another said: ‘Louis Walsh b****d and talked about us to our best friend Tara Reid and then we fired him!’

A final tweet read: ‘Louis reopened these wounds all by himself being spiteful and disrespectful we aren’t going to have our character taken. Justice will be served.’

During the episode, Jedward were having dinner with their close friend and former TOWIE star Gemma Collins.

Gemma quickly jumped to their defence on Instagram as she admitted she ‘couldn’t believe’ what was being said.

She posted: ‘Shocked to see what was said about my boys. They are the sweetest, talented, polite, educated, kind boys I’ve ever met hence why they are always in my company!! TEAM JEDWARD. #Jedward’.

The Irish music mogul Walsh managed the pair between 2009 and 2013, but things turned sour when, in 2016, Walsh described the duo as ‘the most embarrassing thing to happen to him’.

That’s despite boasting of making millions after Jedward’s first two albums went platinum in Ireland, while they also represented their country at Eurovision in 2011 and 2012.

Ironically Louis defended the brothers during The X Factor in 2009 when Simon Cowell called them ‘vile’ – the same term he used in the CBB house.

He argued that they were ‘innocent children’ at the time, when Simon hissed that they were ‘vile little creatures’.

Elsewhere in the Jedward biography, Louis continues to fawn over his charges. He said: ‘You either have that special something or you don’t and I thought that they had it in spades… they are nice to everybody, from the people on the street to the people in the record company – and that’s why they have so many fans.

‘Everyone wants to work with them because they are just so hard-working and genuinely nice. John and Edward make the people that they meet smile and they make them feel special – that is their secret and that is what sets them apart from a lot of people.

‘Their attitude is 100 per cent positive all of the time and that is why they are where they are now.’

Despite that, the twins say in the book that one of their manager’s primary pieces of advice to them was ‘always break the rules’.

John added: ‘Louis always tells us to never follow the rules and always break out and be different: but we don’t attention seek, things just work out well for us.’

But Louis maintained that the quiff-topped singers were the perfect pop stars to work with.

He said: ‘They never complain and they just want to work, work, work – how would I ever regret taking them on?

‘The boys are a manager’s dream and they are having the time of their lives… I wish every act was like that and then there would be no trouble: Jedward are the best-behaved group I have ever came across in 30 years in the business.’

Louis is even quoted backstage before a Dublin show boasting: ‘I have never seen either of them in a bad mood.’

The official book also reveals that in their first flush of fame Louis put the brakes on a proposed appearance for the twins on Celebrity Big Brother in 2010, stating: ‘They just weren’t prepared to give us enough money.’

He bragged by April 2010 that he was turning down countless jobs for Jedward as the money rolled in with the pair booked solid for months.

Louis said: ‘Everyone wanted them, from Celebrity Big Brother to huge magazines, and we have just had to turn down so many people.

‘They can’t be everywhere so we have to go with the best offers for them and things that are going to stand for John and Edward, long-term.

‘They are now signed to Next Models and this is going to be huge for them. If they weren’t pop stars, then they could easily be models – anyone can see that.’

But the brothers would go on CBB a year later – 2011 – alongside when they finished third and became best pals with US actress Tara Reid in the process.

Louis – who once claimed he turned down a million pounds to go in the I’m A Celebrity jungle – then followed suit by going into the house this year.

While furore over Louis’ comments continues to build outside the house, fears have been sparked that he could quit CBB following close friend Sharon’s exit.  

It has been claimed Louis had made it clear he would not sign up for the show without Sharon – meaning he is now at risk of walking.

Sharon was in the house for a week as a ‘Celebrity Lodger’ and headed home on Tuesday night’s live show. It is thought she has been paid £500,000 for the stint.

If Louis does leave, he will still reportedly receive his full fee which is believed to be a whopping six figures.

A source told The Sun of his potential exit: ‘Louis would only go into the show with Sharon booked in there with him. CBB pulled out all the stops to make it happen.

‘They know Louis is a flight risk now Sharon is gone and no one would be surprised if he left. Louis will still receive his full fee, so he has nothing to lose.

‘Without Sharon he will be lost as they have such a close friendship in the house. Everyone is on high alert for Louis to throw in the towel, but he’s making such good television, the producers are praying that he will stay.’

As Ryan Thomas and Miles Nazaire skated away to prepare for another performance, viewers were shocked by the outcome, with fans insisting the result was a resolution.

Bookies called it the ‘closest final in history’ with the odds on who would win as Ryan Thomas and his partner Amani Fancy lifted the trophy after a spectacular set of skates.

Still, the second and third place results sparked further outrage after Miles took a dramatic fall during his performance, while Adele scored a perfect 40.

Fans on Twitter insisted the outcome was a resolution, while shouting that Adele had been robbed.

One shouted: ‘That has to be a FIX!!! Adele has been much more solid than Ryan & Miles throughout the series. Plus Miles fell tonight’.

A second wrote: ‘Adele has been robbed. MILES FALL OVER! What is this?!?!’

A fourth surprised fan wrote: ‘Really SHOCKED that Adele didn’t get through to the final of Dancing on Ice. Miles (who even now I have no idea who he is!!) is done instead!!!! RYAN HAS TO WIN FOR ME. He’s a nice guy AND he’s a NORTHMAN. Come on Ryan, you can do it!!!!!’

Another commented: ‘Needs to be fixed. Adele was way better than Miles,” while another shouted: “#DancingOnIce Really??? Miles should have been third!’

Another posted before the show’s results: ‘Ryan needs to win! I really don’t want the extremely smug Miles & Vanessa to win!’

Another wrote: ‘I’m sorry, way better than miles and Vanessa really hopes Ryan and Armani win now.’

Another annoyed fan added: ‘Oh, what shocking multi-millionaire miles they’ve experienced.’

Another sarcastically wrote: “Miles and Vanessa, shock horror” and another added: “How did Miles get through it?”

However, some fans came out in support of Miles, exclaiming, “I can’t believe it, ahhhh!! come on Miles & Vanessa!!”

Another wrote: ‘Great final right decision Miles and Ryan are great skaters.’

Miles, 28, who admitted he signed up for the show because of his desire to be seen as ‘more than a Chelsea boy’, finished second in Sunday’s final alongside his partner Vanessa Bauer.

His romantic skate with partner Vanessa seemed like it would be a dream, but just seconds into the performance, Miles fell.

The reality star slipped and fell on his butt as he turned a corner, before turning around and getting to his feet to continue skating.

After the routine, he told presenters Holly Willoughby and Steven Mulhern: “I feel bad because I let her down. It was a stupid mistake.’

Actor Ryan was left ‘speechless’ after being announced as the winner of the 2024 series, beating Miles, and dedicating the trophy to injured Greg who missed the final.

He said: ‘I’m speechless, I can’t get over this. Greg, if you’re looking at this, this trophy is for you!’

Being the good sport, Miles told Ryan, “Good job, you deserve it, good job.”

Josh Brolin stripped down to his underwear and took a cold plunge while hosting the newest episode of Saturday Night Live.

The 56-year-old performer – who recently garnered attention for writing a poem for Timothee Chalamet –  began the show by speaking about how, the first time he served as a host of Saturday Night Live, Adele was featured as a musical guest. 

‘Now she’s a global superstar. The second time I hosted, the musical guest was Gotye, and now he’s just someone that I used to know,’ he quipped.

The performer then made a reference to his role as Thanos in several Marvel Cinematic Universe entries, and stated that the character had ‘a scrotum chin that snapped all the population into dust.’

Brolin also revealed that he wrote poems about all of his costars, and recited one he had penned about his Dune costar. 

He said of the actor: ‘Your cheekbones jut toward what are youth eyes that slide down a prominent nose and on to lips of a certain poetry. I mean, it’s weird, yeah. But I – no, I don’t want to sleep with him.’

After he stated that hosting the program ‘is like jumping into an ice bath, you know. Scary, it’s exhilarating, your penis is in your stomach,’ he then jumped into an ice bath, after which he concluded his opening monologue.

The first sketch of the night took place in a Chase bank, and a robbery started while a couple attempted to deposit a check.

Heidi Gardner’s character then bent over, and Brolin’s asked the robbers if he would have to ‘watch helpless as you have your way with my supple wife?’

Brolin and Gardner’s characters then tie themselves up, and the latter told the robbers: ‘You probably are going to take my chick in the back and lay her on a bed of quarters and make a smut film in the vault. You make me sick.’

Brolin and Gardner then strip down to their underwear, and the former quips: ‘Isn’t it your lucky day? We just opened up our marriage.’

After one of the branch workers encourages the couple to ‘shut up so they can rob us in peace,’ an accomplice of the robbers walked in, and Gardner called him a ‘barely legal Latino.’

Brolin and Gardner’s characters then strip down before the police arrive, and another branch worker shoots down the idea of filming them with the officers.

The next skit takes place on a flight to Phoenix, during which a passenger refused to buy a pair of headphones and sang about watching Josh Brolin’s screen for the length of the ride.

The passenger then crooned that, as his ‘Kindle is dead,’ he would have to be ‘raw-dogging this flight.’

Brolin, who was watching the Brad Pitt film Ad Astra, attempted to pause his movie before being stopped by the passenger, and he then sang: ‘His breath is on my neck, I can’t keep watching like this, I go to turn off the movie, his hand grabs my wrist.’ 

An air marshal portrayed by Kenan Thompson then interrupts the number and belted pout: ‘If your Kindle is dead and you’re raw dogging this flight, then you will watch what he watches, the man to your right.’

The third sketch took place at a ‘people pleasers support group’ and focused on a group of individuals who have become terminally scared of conflict.

When Brolin’s character told everyone that he tried breaking up with his girlfriend, he stated that the split ‘Went really well. I proposed, and we’re getting married. Is that good?’

Another member showed off a tragic haircut and the leader stated that she ‘knew it was bad immediately, but you just watched them do it and then you said I love it, thank you.’

Ariana Grande, who also served as the evening’s musical guest, showed up late to the meeting and stated that she got hit by a car, and I was like, oh, my god, I’m so sorry, car, I hope you’re okay.’

She then revealed that she was only staying at her job for health insurance, and although she attempted to roleplay an exit from the company, it completely backfired.

The meeting ended with a group prayer, during which they recited: ‘God, grant me the serenity to say no, but if you’re too busy with heaven, then no worries. Amen. Or ah-men, whatever you prefer.’

The next sketch was set during a wine and cheese night, and a cat named Tiger cuddled up on Brolin’s lap as he spent time with his friends.

The Dune actor’s character then stated that he had been ‘closing down nursing homes and turning them into top golfs’ before turning his attention back to the cat.

After Tiger hopped into another friend’s lap, Brolin told the cat’s owner that his pet was  ‘a s***, busting it open for every lap at this lame-a** wine and cheese night.’

The actor’s character then admitted that he had been farting all night and pulled Tiger back into his lap, after which the cat bit into his arm and opened up a sizable wound.

When one of the hosts told him to go a hospital, they pulled knives on each other, after which the sketch concluded.

The fifth sketch took place in Vienna in 1893 at a ball and Kinski, played by Brolin, told his friends he was planning on winning the affections of a duchess with a tower of shrimp cocktails.

The duchess arrived at the party and began to flirt with Kinski, although she began to worry him after she started dancing closely to his arrangement.

Brolin’s character abruptly pushed the duchess out of a window and rationalized his actions by stating: ‘We must protect the shrimp tower at all costs.’

The duchess attempted to climb back in before Kinski hit her in the head with a bottle, and although she barged in looking worse for wear, she stated that she was impressed by the shrimp tower and wanted to marry him.

Kinski celebrated by eating a shrimp by the tail and accidentally knocked over his tower in the process, after which he jumped out of a window while his friends raised a toast to the happy couple.

The sixth routine of the evening took place on a Jerry Springer-esque show, during which a woman revealed her suspicions about her husband’s infidelity.

Although the audience was initially rooting against the husband, it turned out that he was a quadriplegic, after which many of the show’s attendees began leaving the room.

The quadriplegic then revealed that he broke his neck and became wheelchair-bound after performing oral sex on his wife and said that he began losing weight after she stopped feeding him regularly.

The group began discussing a paternity test, and it is then revealed that Brolin’s character is not the father of his wife’s half-Black baby. 

After all the guests left the set of the program, Brolin’s character celebrated by spinning around in his wheelchair.

Grande then took to the stage to perform her new track We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love), which was featured on her newly-released album Eternal Sunshine.

The 30-year-old singer performed her song on a set designed to look like an old  living room, and she began by pretending to change a television channel.

The hitmaker donned a fur coat on top of a black dress during the show, and she also sported a patch on top of her left eye.

The set’s background changed over the length of the song, and Grande finished up in a snowy version of the first set.

A fake PBS special hosted by Ken Burnt was focused on an older version of the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!, and Bowen Yang and Grande began by performing an awkwardly paced medley of love songs.

The melody finished with the happy birthday song, and Burnt stated: ‘They knew they could get the rights to happy birthday, so they fell back on that a lot.’

After Grande’s character coughed up blood into a napkin, Yang commented that the action was ‘movie for dying’ before they started up with another bad medley.

Brolin arrived on set and quoted Lady Marmalade before Grande’s character almost died again, although she was instantly revived for another medley.

The next sketch took place in an office building, and a group of workers lamented being stuck in a four-hour meeting before being interrupted by Brolin as ‘Tommy Fling, the sandwich king.’

When the workers shut down his offers to sell them sandwiches, he began staring wistfully into the distance while Billie Eilish’s track What Was I Made For? played in the background.

After the workers let him know that their accounting group would be ordering from an Indian restaurant, a montage of the sandwich maker’s life began playing before it was revealed that Tommy had been singing the song out loud.

Tommy then offered the group sandwiches for free after the pizza they ordered did not show up, although it turned out that his food is covered in mold, and one of the workers appeared to seize up after taking a bite.  

Grande then returned to the stage to perform her new track Imperfect For You, which was also featured on Eternal Sunshine.

The Nickelodeon alum had changed into a flowing dress that changed color along with the set of the show.

She also and tied most of her hair back into a loose bun, although much of it fell onto the sides of her face as she performed for her fans.

Grande concluded her second performance of the evening while being surrounded by digital fireflies.

The final sketch of the evening took place in a sports bar, and a group member announced that she had paid for the whole table after they finished their food.

She then realized that she had tipped on top of an automatic gratuity and began attempting to erase the markings on her receipt, violently shaking the group’s table in the process.

The character also made several references to sleeping with Brolin and admitted: ‘I just ate 32 habanero wings. I’m not riding you.’

A waiter then made it to to their table and told them to leave, as one of the members of the group had been stealing soap from the restaurant’s bathroom. 

The episode ended when Brolin hugged Grande and special guest Scarlett Johansson, who appeared in the program’s cold open, and thanked Lorne Michaels for making Saturday Night Live into ‘the greatest show on earth.’ 

It’s been ten years John Travolta created accidentally Idina Menzel‘s alter ego.

Officially, a decade has passed since Travolta, 70, infamously ruined Menzel, 52, at the 2014 Oscars when he called her “Adele Dazeem” while introducing her on stage. In a humorous video shared via TikTok and her Instagram Story on Saturday, March 2, Menzel wished Adele a happy birthday.

“Hey, Adele Dazeem, it’s Idina Menzel. I just want to say, happy birthday,” she said in the video, which she captioned: “Happy 10th birthday, Adele Dazeem!”

The Rent star continued, “Sending you so much love and positive energy, I hope you have the best, best day.” Menzel then sang a rendition of “Happy Birthday” before ending her well wishes with, “Have a great one, lots of love, bye!”

Menzel has voiced Elsa on Disney’s Frozen franchise since 2013. As part of the 86th annual Academy Awards the following year, she played the Frozen soundtrack’s Oscar-nominated song, “Let It Go”, where she was introduced by Travolta.

Menzel has proven to be a good sport when it comes to the mix-up over the past decade, regularly joking about the incident on social media. In 2022, the actress took part in the viral ‘Not My Name’ challenge on TikTok, where she took on Adele Dazeem in her iconic roles, from Elphaba to Broadway’s Bad Unpleasant Leah Michele‘s mother cheerfulness.

After the 2014 ceremony, Travolta said We weekly that he had “hit [himself] up” about the snafu. “Then I thought… What would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ Idina is incredibly talented and I’m so happy that Frozen took home two Oscars [on] Sunday night!” he said Us at the time.

For her part, Menzel admitted in 2015 that she was initially thrown for error when she took the stage. “But then I just got back on track and reminded myself where I was, and what a beautiful moment it was,” she said Billboard at the time, adding that Travolta reached out to her privately to apologize. “He was very friendly and sent this wonderful email, and we’re friends and it’s all cool. Please. I mean, I’ve only benefited from it!”

She once described herself a ‘little girl from Croydon with a dream’ – and at last night’s Brit Awards, they all seemed to finally come true for Raye. 

The singer-songwriter, 26, from South London, made Brit Award history when she scooped six accolades in one night – beating records set by Blur, Harry Styles and Adele. 

Raye, whose full name is Rachel Agatha Keen, won Best New Artist, Songwriter of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Act, Artist of the Year and Mastercard’s Album of the Year.

For the final award, the star – who was forced to release her music independently after being restricted by a previous record label – was in floods of tears as she was joined by her grandmother on stage.

She said: ‘You just don’t understand what this means to me. I’m ugly crying on national television.

‘All I ever wanted to be was an artist, and now I’m an artist with an album of the year. Thank you so much, this is too much – come on Grandma, let’s go.’

As a teenager, Raye attended BRIT school for two years before then dropping out because she ‘hated being told how to write a song’. 

When she was 17-year-old, the rising star was assaulted by a music producer – and revealed how she turned to alcohol and drugs to cope. 

Since then, Raye has appointed her father as her manager while she also works closely with her sister. 

In June 2021, Raye revealed that her record label, Polydor Records, had been withholding her debut album for several years – forcing her to then release her music independently. 

Here FEMAIL delves into Raye’s incredible rise to fame and her remarkable musical comeback.

South London upbringing and dropping out of school

Rachel Keen was born in Tooting to a Ghanaian-Swiss mother and English father and was one of three daughters.  

When Raye was still a child, the family relocated to Croydon – where she attended Woodcote High School. 

In an interview with F Word magazine, Raye said Croydon was a ‘really great place to grow up’.

She explained: ‘[It is] very down to earth, very multi-cultured, very fun, really great. I grew up in the church as well, so I go to church every Sunday with the family. 

‘That’s where I learnt how to sing and understand my love for music.’ 

When she was 14 years old, Raye was accepted into Brit School – whose alumnae include Adele, Ella Eyre, Jessie J and Leona Lewis.  

Speaking to The Times earlier this month, Raye explained how she dropped out of the school after two years because she ‘hated’ being told how to write a song.

She said: ‘It’s not in my nature to follow rules. I didn’t get on with them in school and I don’t understand why they even exist in music. 

‘I love songs that don’t do what you expect them to. For me it’s liberating to write something sonically different every time that doesn’t sound like anyone else. Otherwise, what’s the point?’

What’s more, the star also told the BBC that she felt ‘confined’ as a student at Brit school – as other students were all ‘cool, underground, indie artists’. 

Bagging first record deal 

When she was 16 years old, radio host Clara Amfo played Raye’s music on her show for the first time.

The following year, she signed a four-album deal with the record label Polydor.

In 2017, she was shortlisted for the BBC Music Sound of… award and came in third place. 

After this, she won at the ASCAP London Music Awards and was nominated for a BRIT award for her You Don’t Know Me single in 2018.

Around this time, Raye was assaulted by a music producer – who forced his hand between her legs when she was 17 years old.  

Whilst performing on the Pyramid Stage last year at Glastonbury she paused between singing the song saying: ‘This next song is about sexual abuse, and rape, and sexual violence. And I know that’s heavy, okay.

‘But I also know one in four men and women will experience that in their lifetime. So I know that I’m not alone when I sing this today.’

In an interview with Cosmopolitan last year, she said she still suffers from panic attacks and PTSD regularly.

‘When I think about the panic attacks, the PTSD…you realise that someone’s actions become your burden to carry, and there is nowhere you can put it other than a therapy session,’ she said.

‘Every girl I know in this industry has some sort of story to tell me. The studio is such a vulnerable space.

‘And if you say something, you create an enemy who will spread rumours or blacklist you – and you need those connections to open doors for yourself.

‘Even though the people decide very much what’s consumed on the outside, inside, the music industry is still very much a gatekept society.’

Despite the buzz around her music and her regular appearances at festivals, Raye’s debut album never materialised – as she later revealed she was in a stand-off with her record label. 

Battle with record label and turning to drugs 

In an emotional interview with Lous Theroux last November 2023, Raye revealed that she was ‘constantly in some kind of sedation’ when she first started her career.

During the television interview, Raye said all she wanted was to be ‘in control of her life’ as she discussed her frustration with her old label Polydor for not allowing her to release an album. 

During the conversation, Raye admitted to taking ‘codine’ and ‘MDMA’ as she ‘reached her limit’ and had ‘nothing left to lose’. 

She said: ‘I think I wasn’t able to get along with my career because I was just constantly in some form of sedation just to get along with it. Whether it be weed or other things which I write about on my album. 

‘This is the thing, when I became sober, I realised, wow, I can’t do this sober. Like, this is deep. It’s actually deep.

‘It’s so deep what I’d realized I’d actually been doing to myself as a person to try and be somebody that they wanted me to be.

‘And it’s so sad. So I just got into that point where I was just like, “What is my life right now?” “What is the point?”

‘Yeah, so I just was at a point where I just had nothing left to lose. Yeah, so I was just like, “F*** it.” I’ve absolutely reached my limit.’

Raye says she reached breaking point when her label would not let her release an album – which led to her venting her frustrations on social media.

She continued: ‘But that is how far you push me. They either listen to me now, listen to their artists in pain, or we part ways, and they can save themselves this headache because I’m about to make it a headache.’

After Raye started giving interviews about her label not allowing her to release her debut album, she was able to part ways with Polydor in 2021. 

Raye’s album My 21st Century Blues is her first project as an independent artist

The singer touches on substance abuse, assault and sexual violence and anxiety in her lyrics, and previously explained why she didn’t want to shy away from ‘difficult’ topics.

She told MailOnline: ‘I just want to be a woman discussing uncomfortable topics that we don’t talk about, these are all things I battled with in the darkness and in silence.

‘You hope in writing about these songs and putting them out into the world, you just hope that people hear them, and and relate to them also.

‘It’s very much medicine in a way that you have a different feeling to to put quite a painful emotion to it.

‘For me is just very empowering, and I hope it can be medicine for anyone else who who needs it.’ 

During her interview with F Word magazine, Raye revealed that her dad is her manager while she also works closely with her sister. One of her younger sister has also had music featured in a Target advert in the US.

Raye added: ‘Music is in all our genes. Mum is the next one, she’s taking some of the workload with Dad. She’s worked in the NHS all her life so she is the next, hopefully in a year or two she will be able to join the team and it’ll be a full family empire.’ 

TikTok support

In January 2023, Raye’s single ‘Escapism’ went to UK number one and became a huge hit on TikTok. The single now has been used in over 700,000 videos on the social media platform.

The star partnered up with TikTok for the launch of their #ElectronicMusic campaign in September and her single Call on Me was also named the platform’s Song of the Summer in 2021.

Speaking to Cosmo Middle East, Raye explained how she never expected to gain such success on TikTok.

She said: ‘I think my sister pointed it out [it was blowing up on TikTok]. I checked, and it had like 1000 videos made to the sound.

‘I was like “oh that’s exciting!” and then the next day it was 2000 and it just kept doubling out of nowhere and I was like “wow!”

‘It’s the kind of thing you can’t plan. You can’t be like “Okay I’m gonna have a viral hit”. You know, it just doesn’t work like that. I’m just grateful that TikTok was like “Yeah we like that. Let’s make so many videos to it”. I was very overwhelmed.’

Despite her music’s sudden surge in popularity, Raye told The Times she does her own makeup and hair while on tour.

She also bought a house in Streatham, South-West London two years and continues living with her two sisters.  

 Career-defining turnaround at BRITs

Raye’s incredible sweep at the Brits last night marks one of the music industry’s greatest ever comebacks – just three years after Polydor refused to release any of her albums. 

This led to Raye leaving the company and releasing her critically acclaimed, and now award winning, debut My 21st Century Blues as an independent artist.

The singer/songwriter scooped the Song of the year award for her hit Escapism ft 070 Shake, shortly before also taking home the R&B Act gong and Best New Artist.

‘I’m shaking. I don’t really know what to say right now, but… thank you. I’ve always dreamed of saying that,’ she said as the reached the podium to accept her first award of the night.

Referencing her new beginning in her Best New Artist Speech, Raye said: ”I have to thank my mum and my dad who are also part of my team, and my grandma. Yes grandma! I, in ways, do feel like a new artist. I released my first song when I was 15, my first mixtape when I was 16, don’t go and listen to it because it’s not that good any more.

‘But I do feel like a new artist, I got to start again. The artist I was three years ago would not believe what she’s seeing today. I’m my own boss now, I’m in control. Thank you!’ 

She also scooped the first ever BRIT Award for R&B act, which is voted for by the public via Instagram and is a new standalone genre category after musicians and fans complained about R&B being conjoined with the pop last year.

Raye acknowledged the the uproar in her speech, telling the crowd: ‘Look I just wanna say, when I was about 16, 15 years old, I wanted to be an R&B artist, that’s what I would say. And I was told, I think, a lie that R&B doesn’t sell in the UK so I needed to learn how to make different kinds of music.’

‘I know that’s a bit shady but I need to say R&B is so important and there are so many R&B artists in the UK eating it up. I wanna shout out to Mahalia, who campaigned for this award, Cleo Sol, who’s immaculate, Sault. This really is a lot – thank you.’

Raye also won Songwriter of the Year, which was announced ahead of the live ceremony, with host Clara Amfo handing her the gong in a surprise moment after her Best New Artist win.

Clara – who gave Raye her first ever radio play – told the star: ‘There is no such thing as an overnight success, I am so proud of you.’

Alex Scott and her girlfriend Jess Glynne put on a loving show at the Brit Awards afterparty on Saturday evening.

The pair attended the Universal Music bash at 180 The Strand after avoiding each other on the red carpet earlier in the evening.

As they posed for snaps, singer Jess, 34, lovingly hugged The Football Focus host, 39, as they shared a sweet moment.

They later left the party hand in hand after enjoying the big night out together in London.

For the afterparty, Alex wore a bold striped suit, went braless and completed the look with leggy shorts and tall black boots.

Meanwhile, Jess wore a sheer black lace playsuit and matching over-the-knee leather boots.

It comes after they avoided each other on the red carpet earlier in the evening.

The fiercely intimate couple, who officially headed to Mexico during a winter break earlier this year, posed separately before heading to the ceremony.

Raye broke records at the BRIT Awards on Saturday night, winning six gongs at a star-studded ceremony at London’s O2 Arena.

The 26-year-old singer/songwriter won the first gong presented that evening, Song of the Year, for her hit Escapism ft 070 Shake, shortly before also taking home the R&B Act gong and best new artist.

She was in tears as she later accepted Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, at one point bringing her beloved grandmother onto the stage.

The star now holds the record for the most Brits won in a single ceremony, a record that previously stood at four, jointly held by Blur (1995), Adele (2016) and Harry Styles (2023).

Raye was nominated eight times – the most ever for a single artist in a single year – including winning song of the year twice, for Escapism, which won the title, and for Prada.

In addition to Raye’s huge successes, Dua Lipa also won the award for best pop act, while Kylie Minogue – who had a huge comeback hit last year with Padam Padam – took home the global icon award. The evening was dominated by female winners, who won gongs in all but four categories.

Dua Lipa picked up the fan-voted Pop Act gong and gushed to her fans: “I think for more than one reason my fans are the reasons why I’m standing here today so I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone One of you has on me voted.’

A record number of 98 artists were in the running for the new 2024 BRIT Prize, designed by British visual artist and painter Rachel Jones.

The only men to receive awards were Calvin Harris for dance act; Sheffield quartet Bring Me The Horizon in the alternative/rock category; Casisdead for best hip-hop, grime or rap act; and duo Jungle for group of the year.

Miley Cyrus was a notable absentee that evening, thanking her for her International Song win for her smash hit Flowers in a video message.

‘Hello everyone at the British. “I want to thank you very much for voting Flowers as the International Song of the Year, and special thanks for giving me a place to wear this dress,” she said, showing off her tiny gold number.

“It’s incredible to win, but the real prize is that this incredible song becomes a hit around the world. I know this video is a little short, but I just wanted it to match my dress.”

Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding pulled out all the stops as they led the performances.

Double nominee Dua, 28, opened the ceremony with her new song Training Season from her forthcoming third studio album.

The singer looked stunning in an all-leather look as Ellie, 37, stormed the stage just a week after announcing the end of her marriage.
