‘A possible tour’ of King Charles to Australia later this year hardly seems like news to prompt us to string up the streamers or pop the streamers.

At any other time, such an unclear announcement from the Australian prime minister’s office might indicate that the king has only dampened interest in a foray into the colonies.

In fact, his decision to go ahead with the planned trip to Australia speaks volumes of his desire to protect and maintain a shared relationship that, frankly, is vital to both parties – no matter how much bickering may have occurred along the way .

In the years leading up to Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2022, the conversation in Australia tended to assume that while we respected Her Majesty, the same affection would not be extended to her son.

Expectations grew that the country would break ties with the monarchy and be ruled by its own head of state.

Not that anyone knew what this might look like – which is partly why the referendum on a republic failed when it was voted on in 1999.

A quarter of a century later, the push for independence has never looked so weak.

Strangely enough, the crown-and-castle caper that we apparently wanted to throw overboard has been replaced by something that is somewhere between curiosity and respect.

Here, where the royal family is neither an institutional anchor nor a backdrop to everyday life, the pranks of recent years have largely served as entertainment.

As Megxit unfolded, we watched from a distance as if we were watching the Kardashians, only with crowns.

Yet Sussex’s defection did little to advance the republican cause.

Instead – and rather oddly – ​​it seemed to anchor our allegiance to this trouble-ridden family with the aging matriarch, a gradually rehabilitated heir, his two motherless sons and their glamorous wives.

When the palace announced the king had cancer, even the Australian Republican Movement sent well wishes.

Announcing the “possible” royal visit yesterday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pointed out that King “has shown compassion for Australians affected by recent natural disasters, just as Australians have shown compassion and support for the King following his cancer diagnosis.”

“The King, Queen and members of the Royal Family are always welcome in Australia,” he said.

Post-cancer, Australia will be a soft landing place for the monarch who has admired the continent since he lived here as a schoolboy. He considers his time at Geelong Grammar to be one of the happiest times of his life and certainly the highlight of his education.

“Honestly, this was by far the best part,” he said in a speech years later. ‘I had knocked off the Pommy pieces. Like chips off an old block.’

Is it premature to announce a visit so soon after a cancer diagnosis?

Maybe there was no choice. Planning a tour can take many months, involving multiple state and territory groups.

It could even tie in with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa in October.

Whatever the case, it was probably only a matter of time before news of a visit leaked out.

No doubt the King is also keen to send out positive news, while strengthening the relationship with a nation that has stood side by side with Britain through wars, disasters and hotly contested sporting competitions.

Charles might even want to match his mother’s tally of 16 tours Down Under. So far he has visited fifteen times.

In terms of his itinerary, Victoria – the state where he enjoyed his time in Geelong – will likely feature, not only because he hasn’t been there since 2012, but also because illness, especially in later life, tends to think about voting.

Tasmania can also beckon with its beautiful scenery, sustainability projects and food culture. The cooler temperatures there would likely suit the queen, who struggled in the 40-degree heat during the couple’s 2018 visit to Queensland and the Northern Territory.

As for how they will be greeted, interest in the royal family remains high.

Peter Antonucci, who worked as a commercial litigator in New York City, lived for five years aboard the ship, which has a strict invitation-only policy.

The 64-year-old compared the ship, which has apartments for sale from around $2 million, to a student dormitory and claimed the exclusive community was steeped in heated clashes and dirty dealings. Affairs.

He not only drew parallels to the antics of college students, but also identified comparisons to HBO’s dark comedy The White Lotus.

The satirical drama follows a star-studded cast – including Jennifer Coolidge – as their affluent characters embark on sun-drenched vacations marred by affairs, hedonism and sinister secrets.

“To be clear, the people on the ship weren’t killing each other… it wasn’t that bad.

“But you had entitled owners yelling at staff when they couldn’t get their way and you had guests who were inappropriate, barely dressed and grinding against each other on the pool deck.”

He said there were also incidents of heated arguments, altercations and affairs that lasted “months or years” – even between residents and crew.

When asked how rule breakers were dealt with, Peter explained: ‘You can’t get rid of people straight away if they’re paying $5 million to buy on and they’re paying $5 million in maintenance fees every year.

“But there were protocols in place to deal with it.”

Peter, who kept a diary during his time on board, has done so ever since wrote three novels about a fictional ship – with titles such as Billionaire’s Paradise, Scandal at Sea: Billionaire’s In The Deep and Tides of Betrayal.

He claims his books are purely inspired by true events, but said he was initially shunned by other residents after they learned of his projects.

THe authorwho described himself as a provocateur, said: “People know I’m not afraid to say things.”

‘When I was writing the books, everyone was very worried and said, “I can’t believe you’re going to write this”, they ignored me, they wouldn’t talk to me and I was isolated.

‘Then the book came out and it was all fiction and they all came to me and said, “Why am I not in your book?”

A spokesperson for The World told DailyMail.com: ‘WWe had previously been in contact with Mr. Antonucci, who assured us in writing that his works have no connection with The World or its inhabitants, and that his publications are fictional works of art about a fictional ship.

‘We wish him every success with his creative works of fiction, which we understand have no relationship with De Wereld or any of its inhabitants.’

There are 165 luxury homes on board The World, which travels to more than 100 destinations per year as part of an itinerary planned two to three years in advance, ranging from stylish studios to three-bedroom apartments.

He continued, “It’s a good thing because they understand what it’s like to build a business and develop something.

“But it can be a bad thing because they’ve never said no and when they have an idea they just go with it.”

Peter left the ship in 2019, adding: ‘I left because of two things.

‘First of all, I’d been around so long that I’d seen the world a few times. Secondly, I was personally tired of the gossip, the rumors and the cattiness.”

He now divides his time between Connecticut and Palm Beach, Florida.

The Crown star Dominic West has admitted he fell out with Prince Harry after he “said too much” at a press conference on their return from a charity trip to Antarctica before they spoke no more.

West accompanied the Duke of Sussex on an ambitious journey when they both took part in the Walking With the Wounded charity event in 2013.

At a ‘welcome home’ press conference attended by West, he told how the then 29-year-old Prince had skills that helped the Commonwealth team on the journey, including mucking out to help build the latrines.

But after being asked how the team celebrated the end of the trip, West admitted that Harry drank champagne from a prosthetic leg and made “eye-wateringly crude jokes.”

He says Prince Harry did not speak to him after the press conference, although the duke previously admitted to watching The Crown, which stars West Charles.

The Wire actor told the press conference at the time that Harry was ‘a very cool guy, very much part of the team’.

He continued, “He often reached the rendezvous point before the rest of his men and built these incredibly lavish crenellated latrines, with battlements and toilet paper holders.

‘It took him at least 40 minutes to build, they were just fantastic. I often sat on the latrine and thought, ‘This is a royal flush in every sense!’

‘Harry also helped me a lot when I had problems with my skis in the beginning. He was a great guy.’

West told Times Radio on Sunday: ‘We kind of [lost touch because] I said too much at a press conference, and we haven’t spoken since.”

He added: “I think I was asked what we were doing. [And] what we did to celebrate when we got there and [I] probably said too much.’

Prince Harry remained formally present at the 2014 press conference, saying: ‘Inspiring others is one of the cornerstones of this charity.

“To show those who have suffered life-changing injuries that anything is still possible.

“That this truly incredible achievement from everyone behind me… will remind everyone that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

‘Our wounded, wounded and sick [servicemen] they just want to be treated the same way they were before they were injured. With respect.

‘For some the journey may be more challenging and it is up to us to make it as easy as possible for them. We can do that with training, with work, or even with adventure.

“If anyone has the opportunity to give these boys and girls a leg up in terms of employment, please do so. You will have no regrets.’

His teammate Duncan Slater added: “Harry was a real team player. There was always something to do and he always encouraged it.

‘There were so many gusts of wind. He probably spread himself quite thin. He spent time with every team every day.

“He always made sure to blend in, bringing everyone to the forefront. It was a lot of fun because he was just as tired as everyone else. ‘

Referring to the champagne antics, he said: ‘We decided to use my legs as a primitive ice bucket. I don’t know why we did it, but we did it!’

During the 2013 Walking With The Wounded Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge, soldiers skied 330 kilometers through some of the most inhospitable conditions known to man, with temperatures as low as minus 50 degrees and biting winds.

Each man and woman – some of whom were double amputees – also had to pull a custom-made pool sled, known as a pulk, weighing more than 11 stone, with their equipment in hand.

The terrain was so challenging that organizers were forced to suspend the racing element of the tour and group all participants together for safety.

The teams spent a total of four weeks in Antarctica, including the acclimatization period and the end of the expedition. The trek started on December 1 and the teams reached the South Pole on Friday, December 13.

Prince Louis once again stole the show at Trooping the Color over the weekend, and as one surfaced clip has shown, he may have learned his funny balcony antics from his dad.

The young royal, five, waved energetically to fans during the traditional balcony performance at Buckingham Palace to mark the King’s official birthday.

A clip shared by the Instagram Royal Children’s account at the time of the coronation revealed that the Prince of Wales was just as animated as his youngest son when he was the same age.

The adorable clip showed the king’s son as a five-year-old, standing on the balcony with his mother, the late Princess Diana, and his father, then Prince of Wales, at Trooping the Color 1987.

While the heir to the throne is now a polished member of the royal family, as a young boy he was up to exactly the same antics as his son, energetically waving and pointing to crowds and giving the planes the cutest military salute.

All eyes were on Prince Louis on Saturday as he put on an animated show fans have come to expect from him.

The budding royal waved, covered his ears and mimicked a motorcycle starting up while on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with his parents and siblings.

Just as Kate Middleton had to gently tell her young son to curb his enthusiasm on Saturday, Princess Anne can be seen leaning over to her young cousin and whispering soothing words in his ear, as he proceeds to give a military salute.
