In the “Dune” films, a giant sandworm can rise from the desert and devour soldiers and military vehicles in its gaping maw. In real life, people who watch movies devour popcorn. These two ideas combine to produce the ‘Dune’ popcorn bucket, a sandworm-shaped tub that is having a cultural moment. The bucket comes on the heels of other recent popcorn collectibles such as the 16-inch Barbie Corvette snack holder. But is there more to these barrels than meets the eye?

Lindsay Moyer thinks about popcorn. She is a senior nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization focused on food systems and healthy eating. She spoke with The New York Times to discuss what she sees when she thinks of “Dune: The Popcorn Bucket.” This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Have you seen the “Dune” popcorn bucket?

I’ve seen pictures. I haven’t seen it in real life.

First impression?

It looks pretty wild. It seems like it would actually slow you down in terms of eating. It doesn’t seem ideally designed to serve yourself popcorn.

Because it’s shaped like a worm’s mouth?

Yeah, because of all the stuff sticking out of it.

Do you like popcorn?

Yes, and I definitely spent time looking at movie theater popcorn, nutritional information, and menus. What I see through that lens is that there is an excessively large bucket and the portion is unreal.

Is that bad?

Popcorn itself is a healthy food, whole grain. It has a high volume and, before you add oil, quite low calories.

A filling snack.

But many people don’t realize that in addition to the sheer size of the bucket, popcorn, like the kind you get at the movies, also contains oil. Then when you add that buttery topping, you usually add more oil.

How big is the “Dune” bucket?

Good question. I mean, there are a lot of unknowns here. Although I spend so much of my time professionally looking at menus and nutrition facts, popcorn is often the most complicated when it comes to the information the movie chains make available.

When you go to a cinema, calories are listed on the menu. But there are some exceptions to that menu labeling law. One of them concerns temporary options that are on the menu for less than 60 days.

An AMC spokesperson told me that the “Dune” bucket, which retails for $24.99, is “slightly smaller” than the 130-ounce large one. (The bucket, which comes without popcorn in it, “is sold with a separate large popcorn for guests to enjoy, in case they don’t want to eat popcorn from their barrel,” he added in an email.) And there are free refills. What have you discovered?

My coworker and I called a number of AMC locations this morning and they all told us that the “Dune” bucket is like getting a large popcorn there, but it varies by location. We spoke to their employees and asked them how many calories are on the menu, and a large one has 980 calories. My understanding is that this would be before you’ve added any buttery topping yourself, if you choose to add it.

Ah, so there’s a surprise ending to the popcorn story.

Yes. There are a few surprises. At AMC you get a large amount, which is about 980 calories before you add anything. Then there’s the question of whether you pop it in canola oil or coconut oil – that’s not clear. The coconut oil contains more saturated fats. Do you get butter, or a buttery topping that isn’t actually butter?

Wait, the buttery topping isn’t butter?

In most cases, the buttery topping in movie theaters does not contain butter. When I called my local AMC theater, the employee there was very nice. He listed the ingredients of their buttery topping for me: highly refined soybean oil, natural and artificial buttery flavor, and beta-carotene, which can be added for color or vitamin A content. He was also able to read me the nutrition facts for their buttery topping on the package. One tablespoon contains 120 calories.

In previous articles our organization has written about movie theater popcorn over the years, we have estimated that you might add two tablespoons to a large bucket. But for some people it can be more; it all depends on how many pumps you give it.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t enjoy themselves. I just want people to know what they’re getting.

What does that ultimately yield?

If you were to add two tablespoons, you would see about 1,220 calories. That’s like eating the calories of two Big Macs; a Big Mac contains about 600 calories.

But a movie is quite long, right?

Yes, you might also need soda and some candy.

Despite all this, Richard seems quite content in his Star Wars-themed van.

His video has clearly struck a chord with many viewers as it has been viewed over 177,000 times on the video sharing platform.

Forget being just a hotspot: South Korea is 'on fire', according to a TikTok traveler.

Adriana Neptuna asks: 'Why isn't this a more popular holiday destination?', adding: 'It's literally chock full of fun things to do.'

Australian-born Adriana cites one attraction in particular as an example: the Sky Capsule in the coastal city of Busan, which she calls in a TikTok clip as 'definitely a bucket list activity'.

The Sky Capsule is a railway elevated to a height of 10 meters (32 ft), with passengers traveling back and forth along the beach in colorful pods decorated with quirky cartoon characters and retro designs.

Adriana told MailOnline Travel: 'It gives you 360 degree views of the incredible scenery. On one side is the rugged coastline and on the other are beautiful forests, mountain ranges and the city of Busan.'

She remembered going at sunset, which “definitely added to the magic.”

The 2km journey takes about 30 minutes, says Tripadvisor, and runs from Haeundae Mipo to the beach town of Cheongsapo.

According to figures, a one-way ticket for two people costs only 30,000 South Korean won (€ 18). Haeundae Blueline Park (HBP).

The park, which operates the Sky Capsule, said the ride is part of an old abandoned railway line that has been transformed as part of an “environmentally friendly initiative.”

Adriana explained that each capsule seats four people and is private, meaning you “don't share with anyone you don't know.”

Turning to the history of the railway, she praised the overall regeneration project as “something that tourists can now appreciate,” which encourages them to “explore more rural areas along Busan's coast,” including the “excellent glass walkways that look out into the sea'. '.

Other visitors to the Sky Capsule gave it mixed reviews Tripadvisor.

'MissIndy' said it is 'a beautiful coastline, but you can experience it better by walking the route', while 'Jon M' called it a 'typically overrated 'tourist attraction'.'

In a more positive review, 'Fikri' praised the 'great train', adding: 'The place is so beautiful and there are lots of great stations where you can stop and take a photo. But be careful, because it is quite windy there. I really like this place.'

To give advice to future visitors, 'Hyejin L' advised to travel towards Mipo Station to Cheongsapo 'if you want to see the sea better' and then take the walking path back to Mipo Station 'to get a good feel for nature' .

The Sky Capsule is one of the many ways to explore Busan Beach with HBP.

On its website, the park says the attraction is part of an “environmentally friendly redevelopment of the old East Sea South Line railway facility.”

This also includes the Haeundae Beach Train, which runs past the Sky Capsule, on the ground floor.

The sightseeing railway “has six stops along the scenic coastline from Mipo to Songjeong,” according to Korea to do.

For those who prefer walking, the Busan Green Railway is a coastal walking path on a wooden terrace that runs alongside the beach train and covers the same distance, according to the website.

CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask

Spotted on countless celebrities all over Instagram, the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask has become the A-list favorite self-care gadget, but it’s more than just a fad.

Kourtney Kardashian and Olivia Colman prepared for the Oscars last year and both turned to the device to make them glow on the red carpet.

Clinically researched and proven, using the mask – which is made of flexible silicone that allows light to penetrate deep into the face – five times a week for ten minutes reduces the appearance of fine lines by 35 percent in just one month .

So what is the science behind the technology? The non-invasive treatment combines red and near-infrared light, with the two wavelengths working beneath the skin’s surface to stimulate the natural rejuvenation process.

By stimulating collagen and blood circulation, the skin appears visibly radiant and noticeably healthier.

The results are so noticeable after using the LED mask that 95 percent of users said their skin tone, texture, firmness and tightness were improved.

In addition to the obvious long-term anti-aging benefits of collagen production, the LED mask also has impressive anti-inflammatory properties, which are excellent for soothing inflamed skin. Users have found that hormonal acne looks less angry, while tone and texture are also improved.

Designed to be used after cleansing and applying your normal skincare products, the flexible silicone mask wraps perfectly around the face and sits comfortably, allowing you to relax and unwind.

The CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask, priced at £279, ‘delivers the same clinically proven wavelengths as professional salon machines’, but at a fraction of the cost.

A-listers including Kim Kardashian and January Jones have praised a specialist LED phototherapy mask that is able to plump your skin, banish acne and fade fine lines in just a month.

A cult favorite among skincare enthusiasts, the Déesse PRO™ LED Phototherapy Mask is said to be the secret to firm, vibrant and clear skin, with promising clinical standard results.

How does LED light therapy work?

LED (light-emitting diode) light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that penetrates the layers of the skin to improve its texture and color.

Improvements may include a reduction in pigmentation and inflammation, as well as smoother fine lines. Other skin conditions such as eczema, hair loss, acne and psoriasis can also improve through LED light therapy.

LED light therapy is the only aesthetic device that has no contraindications.

LED lamps are environmentally friendly and clean light sources that produce virtually no UVA or UVB radiation and are not a laser. It is suitable for all skin types, colors and conditions.

The non-invasive mask is one of the strongest masks available for home use and uses four wavelengths and six facial treatment modes to help a wide range of skin conditions, including hyperpigmentation and acne.

Deesse’s LED phototherapy mask, endorsed by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, January Jones and Kate Hudson, will give you salon-standard results at home, but it can come at a price of £1,440.

When used regularly, the Déesse PRO™ LED Phototherapy Mask helps target fine lines and wrinkles while improving uneven skin tone and texture. And all that without downtime.

Using scientific light principles used by NASA, the mask uses low-level light therapy in four variations to expose the skin to four wavelengths of light (red, green, blue and near-infrared light for healing).

The mask also offers six treatment settings, so you can choose anti-aging, purifying, brightening and soothing depending on your needs.

Designed to reduce oil and bacteria on your skin, soothe pigment spots and blemishes and leave skin smooth and firm, the fast skincare savior makes harsh treatments a thing of the past.

The mask features three color modes to help you address your skin care concerns: blue, yellow and red, each with different wavelengths to penetrate different depths of the skin and stimulate a different response.

The red light setting is designed to wake up your collagen and elastin, leaving skin plumper, firmer and smoother.

The blue light setting is great for those who suffer from pimples and blemishes, helping to smooth out blemishes and scars and reduce oil and bacteria.

The yellow setting is for the glow-getters, reduces redness and pigmentation, stimulates lymph flow and stimulates new cell production.

Using the SwearBy Skin LED Face Mask for just ten minutes, three to five times a week, has been proven to treat some of the most popular skin care concerns.

A 22-year-old widow travels the world alone to help fulfill her late husband’s bucket list.

The bereaved Isobel Barnes, of Nottingham, vowed to travel in his honour, as it was something they both enjoyed doing.

Luke Barnes passed away earlier this year at just 34 years old after being diagnosed with heart muscle disease in 2019 and dying of multiple organ failure while awaiting a transplant.

Isobel, an emergency medical officer, hopes to see the world for a few months before returning to “real life.”

She even sold her house and booked a ticket to Australia.

Next of kin Isobel Barnes, from Nottingham, travels the world solo to help carry out her late husband’s bucket list

And she said, ‘It doesn’t matter who I’m surrounded by, I’m grieving and I’m sad.

‘But I’d much rather do that on the beach than in Nottingham.

‘[Luke would] wants me to live and have the best life – and I want to do it for him too.

“Sometimes you feel guilty for not crying at certain times, but grief is complex and you can’t live your life like that.

‘I booked a one-way ticket because I didn’t know how I would feel. I have no idea what I’m going to do yet, but so far so good. I’m at peace with the journey.’

Luke – who used to be an IT service desk manager – was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy four years ago after being tested for a dislocated shoulder.

After routine biannual MRI scans, his health began to deteriorate.

And finally, in March 2022, he was listed for a heart transplant.

But Luke’s health continued to deteriorate and he was kept in hospital on a permanent basis in November 2022 while he waited for a fitting heart.

Luke was fitted with a BiVAD (biventricular assist device) in December to keep blood flowing through his heart.

After two times when a matching heart was no longer suitable, Luke passed away peacefully after a catastrophic hemorrhage and multiple organ failure due to excessive bleeding from a BiVAD failure on March 17, 2023.

Knowing how much Luke loved to travel, Isobel decided to take the plunge after his death – and booked a ticket.

She said: “Luke used to document his health journey on Instagram and he talked about travel on one of his posts. He wanted to see the world and make the most of it.

WHAT IS CARDIOMYOPATHY?

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that affects its size, shape, and structure.

The condition is usually hereditary.

The three main types of cardiomyopathy are:

  • hypertrophic – heart wall is thickened
  • Expelled – heart muscle becomes stretched and thin
  • Arrhythmogenic right ventricle – heart muscle cells cannot be held together

All of these types of cardiomyopathy affect the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently throughout the body.

They can also affect the way electrical signals make the organ beat.

There is no cure, but in most cases the quality or longevity of people remains unaffected.

Therapies may include medication, treatment to normalize heart rhythm, pacemakers, and, in rare cases, heart surgery or transplants.

Luke and Isobel tied the knot at the end of June 2022, just over a year after meeting at work.

Isobel is approaching their one year anniversary and has plans to celebrate in Bali.

She said, “All I have to do is lay down, get a sunburn and drink a cocktail and I think we would have done that together, so why not do it?”

Isobel hopes to explore much of Thailand and Southeast Asia before heading home briefly in August.

She said: ‘The latest I can come home is mid-August, so then reality will hit again, but I think once I get things sorted out at home I might come back again for Christmas.

“I also want to go to the east coast of Australia because I connected with many transplant survivors on a Facebook page and we bonded over this journey we went on.

“It would be great to meet them in person.”

Isobel also hopes to change the conversation about grief and organ donation, saying sharing his story has encouraged others to donate their blood.

She said, “Of course, all I want to do for the rest of my life is make my husband proud.

“There have been days when I thought: this is pointless.”

“But I just know there would be days when he would look down on me and say, ‘That’s my girl living her best life.’

“I want to change talking about grief. It affects everyone and the same goes for organ donations.

“So many people pull up their faces when you talk about donating organs and eventually Luke died because not enough people donate their organs.

“That’s one of the things that was really hard, because none of his organs were working when he died, he couldn’t donate one.

“But by sharing his story on social media, so many people have said they are donating their blood now or plan to donate their organs one day.”

The Dorset-sized country to put on your bucket list: head to historic Luxembourg for culture, fairytale castles – and FREE end-to-end public transport

Imagine being in a country where you can travel from end to end without paying a dime. Meet the first country in the world to offer public transport for everyone, completely free of charge: best regards, Luxembourg.

And while this was a domestic initiative to get cars off the road, the end result is a boon for tourists.

Luxembourg is landlocked by France, Germany and Belgium and is such a small dot on the map (the country is about the size of Dorset) that it can be hard to see at times. The Dutch, Belgians and French have been coming here for a long time, but British holidaymakers traditionally stay away. One look at Luxembourg City and it’s clear we’ve missed something.

The hilly capital teeters around and into a ravine. It’s a colorful jumble of Gothic spires, turrets and pastel houses, clinging to the steep sandstone walls of the gorge down to the river.

There’s a glass elevator to take you up and down – free to use, of course – so you can enjoy the view.

Luxembourg has a tumultuous past. Over the centuries it has been fought over and ruled by the French, the Habsburgs and the Dutch and it was not until 1867 that it finally gained independence, although it lost a lot of land to its neighbours. Instead of a monarch as head of state, the country has a grand duke, making Luxembourg the only grand duchy in the world. The current duke, Henri, is 68 and took over when his father abdicated in 2000.

His palace (complete with marching soldiers) is built on a plateau. “He’s home,” my guide says, pointing to a parked Tesla.

It takes an hour to drive from the top to the bottom of Luxembourg, so instead of lugging my suitcase I planned day trips from the capital.

My hotel is located in the Kirchberg district on a hill, next to the Mudam Museum of Modern Art and opposite the European Court of Justice. It would have been an easy bus journey from the airport and it’s a five minute tram ride from Kirchberg into the city. But will it be just as easy to go outside the capital?

The first day is textbook. A tram and then a bus take me to the Moselle region, where terraced vineyards rise from the river. Schengen is the famous three-country point where three countries come together. Walk across the bridge from here and you are in Germany. Turn right and you’ll soon be in France. This builds thirst and the Domaine L&R Kox winery offers tastings. Their riesling and pinot noir slide nicely, but it’s the £22 a pop 2014 sparkling cremant that steals the show – it’s elegant, dry and dances on the tongue.

In the north I like to visit Vianden Castle (a fairytale castle on a hill), followed by Edward Steichen’s photo exhibition Family Of Man.

My latest adventure consists of a walk in the east, where forests seem almost alien. Gigantic 200-million-year-old rock stacks float between the trees, and the 70-mile Mullerthal Hiking Trail undulates between them.

For one of the smallest countries in Europe, Luxembourg packs a huge punch. It has culture, castles and vineyards as well as some of the most unique walking areas. Better yet, it can now be explored for absolutely nothing. You don’t have to pay to get on a bus, you don’t have to worry about buying the right ticket – it’s one of the world’s best free offers ever.
