A MAN has given an insight into what life is like for him living in a converted van.

Richard made a series of revelations via a video on his TikTok channel @r1charddoes.

He often uses the account to post the realities of life in a van.

In one video, Richard explained that he bought his van in 2020 and took three years to convert it into a camper.

The van was in shocking condition when he bought it and needed a lot of work, but it now has everything he needs to live in it.

He admitted that he often parks in parking garages at night.

“It's not all glamorous images of Scotland on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

He also admitted that he has to go to the toilet in a bucket.

Richard showed viewers his makeshift toilet, which was essentially a wooden box with a bucket inside.

In addition, Richard complained that his van completely freezes over in the winter.

The Van Lifer also revealed what sleeping in the van is like.

I got tired of paying £800 a month for one room so me and my son now live in a Ford Transit van and my expenses are so small

He said: 'If you fidget in your sleep the van will rock a lot.

“Chances are you're not always getting the best night's sleep.

“Luckily I was able to sleep while the air raid siren went off,” he joked.

Richard also admitted that the cost of fuel in his van is “criminal”.

He said: “People generally think that van life is always an Instagram fantasy where our daily lives take place in Scotland, Wales or Europe.

“In reality, it's not always this way: we have day jobs and we don't all work remotely.”

Despite all this, Richard seems quite content in his Star Wars-themed van.

His video has clearly struck a chord with many viewers as it has been viewed over 177,000 times on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users rushed to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts on Richard's lifestyle.

One user said: “Sleeping, washing, cooking, eating and defecating in a space where it is illegal to house a prisoner. Idyllic”

Another user added: “Even when it's very windy the whole van shakes like you're on a boat.”

A third person said: “The best night's sleep I've had was in my van, even at -8 last winter.”
