Apple is in talks with Google about using the search giant’s generative artificial intelligence model, called Gemini, for its next iPhone, as the company races to embrace a technology that has upended the tech industry.

The talks are preliminary and the exact scope of a potential deal has not yet been defined, three people with knowledge of the talks said. Apple has also been in talks with other AI companies, one of these people said, as it wants to tap the power of a large language model capable of analyzing large amounts of data and generating text on its own.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has promised investors that the company will introduce new generative AI capabilities later this year. The company’s smartphone rivals, Samsung and Google, have already added Gemini to their latest devices to edit videos and synthesize audio recordings.

Apple and Google declined to comment. Bloomberg previously reported on the talks between Apple and Google.

A deal between Apple and Google on generative AI would continue one of the longest-standing partnerships in technology. Since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, Google has made a crucial contribution to the device’s success. It initially provided Google Maps for navigation and later struck a deal to become the default search engine in the iPhone’s Safari browser, a lucrative deal for which Google pays Apple more than $18 billion a year.

Google’s discussions to bring generative AI capabilities to the iPhone would be the latest example of filling a gap in Apple’s products. Apple’s efforts to develop its own major language model, the technology behind chatbots like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, are lagging behind, say two people familiar with its development.

Apple’s delay in releasing an AI product has been costly. After a decade as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company, it was dethroned this year by Microsoft, which has aggressively pursued AI. The technology is being praised for its potential to disrupt businesses and create trillions of dollars in economic value.

Despite the delays, Apple has the potential to become a major player in the AI field. The company has more than two billion devices in active use, making it an attractive partner for Google and others. It also has a reputation for protecting customers’ private data, which could be useful in a future where AI services help manage people’s schedules or health data.

A deal could bring the Gemini model to iPhones around the world, giving Google access to a huge user base and making generative AI even more mainstream. Virtually overnight, Google could have more consumers using its AI than its main rival, OpenAI, which makes the ChatGPT AI chatbot, making a pact with Apple a tantalizing prospect.

(The New York Times sued OpenAI and Microsoft in December for copyright infringement of news content related to AI systems.)

The choice of Google as AI supplier would be a crucial vote of confidence in the search giant after a number of setbacks in its AI ambitions. The company’s first AI chatbot, Bard, received mediocre reviews last March and struggled to attract as many users as ChatGPT.

In February, Google debuted a new chatbot called Gemini. The chatbot ran into trouble last month when users discovered that the image generator produced illustrations of historical figures that were not racially accurate and refused to show white people, leading to accusations of bias. Google disabled the ability to take images of people and promised to fix the problem.

In a note on Tuesday, Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi called an Apple-Google deal a “win-win,” bringing Apple generative AI for iPhones and validating Google’s work on Gemini. He also said that Apple did not need to own an AI model on iPhones to benefit from it and could instead take a commission from Google, which currently charges $19.99 per month for its Gemini Advanced app.

Companies have not yet benefited from generative AI. The costs associated with running large language models in the cloud are enormous, and consumers and enterprise customers are only now beginning to pay for the emerging technology. But they are optimistic that profits will increase as the capabilities of AI systems improve and the costs of building the data centers to power the systems fall.

A new deal between Apple and Google could draw criticism from US regulators. The Justice Department is in the final stages of a lawsuit against Google for violating competition law by paying Apple to be the default search engine on the iPhone and other services. Judge Amit P. Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, who is presiding over the non-jury trial, is expected to issue a verdict this year.

Nicki Minaj has been slammed for saying rival Megan Thee Stallion was trying to have her ‘Rihanna moment’ by discussing Tory Lanez shooting her during a 2022 TV interview.

Megan, 28, who reignited her feud with Nicki, 41, courtesy of new diss track Hiss, detailed how Lanez had shot her in the foot during a CBS interview with Gayle King. The attack took place during a drunken argument after a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in 2020 and Lanez currently serving 10 years in prison.

Rihanna famously appeared on ABC News in 2009 in which she broke down in tears while discussing Brown’s physical assault on her after Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy party in February.

Nicki joined podcast host Joe Budden on Spaces on Wednesday, with the rapper accusing Megan of garnering sympathy via feuding with her to reignite her career.

She said: ‘It’s so obvious. She wanted a Rihanna moment so bad’ before adding ‘You gon google.’

‘Rihanna never would milk. You could tell she couldn’t wait to try to move on with her life. And then people even bashed her for not milking it.

‘Rihanna knows she was a superstar with or without controversy. She’s loved, with or without controversy, sympathy.’

Fans quickly took to social media to slate Nicki , with one writing: ‘Everyday I start losing more and more respect for Nicki Minaj. like beefing with Megan Thee Stallion for no clear reason is one thing but this is just gone way too far to mock her trauma online. like this is not normal behavior.

Another typed: ‘The fact that the only thing nicki can come for is megan’s trauma and her height? goes to show who the real rap queen is!! lmao nicki minaj so corny she need to go find some business and take care of her family.’

A third typed: ‘Nicki Minaj weaponizes Rihanna’s DV against Megan Thee Stallion. Saying Meg wanted a ‘Rihanna moment’ and following with this…’

Another wrote: ‘you are actually going to hell Nicki Minaj. this is actually insane and incredibly insensitive to compare Megan Thee Stallion getting shot to claiming “she wanted to have a Rihanna moment”. domestic violence is never funny to bring up or even compare.’

One fan penned: ‘Nicki Minaj, a woman who has allegedly experienced and spoken out about abuse, has now criticized Megan Thee Stallion—a Black woman—for also enduring abuse.

‘She even compared the trauma of Rihanna and Megan to make a point. It’s ironic how we’re expected to empathize with Nicki’s experiences, but when it’s about other women, it’s labeled as seeking ‘sympathy points.’ Her actions are really unhinged and disgusting, and she seriously needs an intervention.

Rapper Latto sent support to Megan in the wake of her feud, writing in a comment on an Instagram post: ‘U making us proud Meg’ – with the star responding with hearts,

This comes after Megan was slammed for bringing up ‘Megan’s Law’ in her new diss track, which ignited her recent feud with Nicki.

Richard Kanka, who championed the sex-offender notification law named after his late daughter Megan Kanka, who was murdered in 1994, called the lyric ‘disrespectful’ as per TMZ

In her new song ‘Hiss’, the rapper appears to take aim at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, 45, who is a registered sex offender in New York.

‘These h**s don’t be mad at Megan,’ she rapped, referring to herself, before adding, ‘These h**s mad at Megan’s Law.’

Though many defended the lyric by pointing out that it brings awareness to the law, Kanka nonetheless finds his late daughter’s name being brought up in the expletive-filled song offensive, and is considering legal action.

Richard Kanka, who championed the sex-offender notification law named after his late daughter Megan Kanka, who was murdered in 1994, called the lyric ‘disrespectful’ as per TMZ

Kanka told TMZ the use of his daughter’s name was ‘highly offensive to the pain his daughter and family felt.’

He admitted that he has not heard the song yet, but has read the lyrics, and does not approve. Kanka also shared he found out about the song from one of his kids.

His daughter Megan was 7 years old when she was raped and killed in July 1994. It was the Kankas’ neighbor and convicted sex offender Jesse Timmendequas who committed the crimes. His two roommates were also convicted sex offenders.

Richard and his wife Maureen, who were unaware that three sex offenders lived across from them, helped champion Megan’s Law into action in 1996.

Megan’s Law mandates the ‘public disclosure of information about registered sex offenders when required to protect the public.’

The information is provided so that members of communities can better protect themselves and their children.

Megan’s lyrics were perceived by Nicki’s fans as a diss toward her husband, who is a registered sex offender. He was convicted of the attempted rape of a 16-year-old in 1994. He spent four years in prison.

He was sentenced to three years probation and one year of home detention in July 2022 after he failed to register as a sex offender in California.

The lyric may have also been aimed at Nicki’s brother, Jelani Maraj, who was convicted in 2017 of predatory sexual assault for the rape of his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in January 2020, after a 2018 appeal failed.

In retaliation, Nicki went on Instagram Live and demanded Megan to ‘conjure up her mother and apologize.’ Megan’s mother, Holly Thomas, passed away in March 2019 from brain cancer.

Minaj also responded to the perceived slight with her own diss track over the weekend, titled Big Foot – a song packed with digs, including one reference to Megan’s alleged cosmetic surgery.

According to a source she is ready to prey on all of Megan’s weaknesses and is ready to ‘drown’ her with further blows, having already taken serious aim at her rival on her latest single.

But while Megan has yet to respond, a source close to Nicki has claimed this is just the beginning of their public spat, with the Anaconda rapper prepared to ‘drown’ her fellow artist with more punches.

‘I know that Nicki seems to be in the wrong right now because she went there, but she is unapologetic, and we are only seeing what they let the public see,’ a source told DailyMail.com exclusively. ‘Behind the scenes it is even worse.’

They continued: ‘Megan has formed an alliance with Cardi B to talk s**t about Nicki, but Nicki has been in the game much longer than both of them.

‘Nicki told Megan she needs to sit down and respect those who set the path for her. Megan came for Nicki’s husband and brother and in the worst way. So, Nicki responded by taking it a level higher.’

The source added that it’s likely this is only the beginning of their fallout, and that Nicki is prepared to take their spat even further.

They continued: ‘If Megan wants to keep this going, it is going to get extremely ugly – more so than it already is. Nicki knows her weaknesses and will play on all of them. If Megan thinks that Nicki’s beef with Cardi is bad it is a drop in the pool that she is about to drown Megan in.’

Nicki doesn’t hold back in her track Big Foot, which was released on Sunday night.

In the song, she hits out at Megan – real name Megan Pete – and asks, ‘Um, why did you lie about your lipo?’ before adding: ‘F**kin’ your best friend man is crazy, you the type, though.’

Nicki, who previously collaborated with Megan on the 2019 song Hot Girl Summer, also appeared to reference the time Megan was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in July 2020.

Rapper Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was sentenced to 10 years in jail in August 2023.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is preparing to take on her new role as queen later this month – after her mother-in-law Margrethe shocked the nation with a surprise abdication on New Year’s Eve.

And old footage from 2003 of the 51-year-old royal, who is originally from Australia and married Crown Prince Frederik a decade ago, shows her dedication to the task as she vowed to ‘work hard’ in her duties and admitted that so it was. It has not yet sunk in that she will one day become queen.

In an interview with 60 minutes Australiathe newly engaged couple discussed the life that awaited them with a new face.

And when Tara Brown pressed Mary, then 31, about what it means for her to marry into the “perfect royal family,” she had the perfect response.

‘What is the perfect princess?’ she asked. “I don’t know, it’s a very subjective thing first of all.

‘All I can say is that I will fulfill the role in a way that suits me and that I can only work hard and do my best.

“For some, that will be good enough.”

A charmed Tara then teased that devoted Mary would definitely bring an ‘Aussie flavour’ to the role.

The fragment was shared by journalist and royal enthusiast Eugenia Garavani on her Instagram, making people happy with Mary’s “smart and warm” energy.

The post received more than 1,890 likes.

“What a fairytale story,” one person wrote.

“Blessings to her and the new king!” another wrote.

A third gushed: ‘Loved this interview.’

Fans are also intrigued to see Mary on screen for very different reasons, as a recently resurfaced clip from 1998 shows the mother of four in an advert for V-Line trains, a regional transport company in Victoria.

In the short, funny commercial, Mary plays a passenger reading a newspaper while a passenger next to her opens a packed lunch with some sandwiches.

He then secretly passes one of them into a huge suitcase on the overhead bin.

A hand peeks out of the suitcase and takes it.

“It’s now easier to get a friend on the train for free,” the ad then says. ‘Two for one ticket, in May.’

Style blog Royal Fashion Police shared the video on Instagram, writing, “Here’s a lesser-known fun fact: Mary appeared in a TV commercial for V-Line trains in 1998.”

“That’s a great casting agent who might recognize her ⭐ appeal,” said one excited viewer.

‘So awesome! All these fun facts coming out about this talented future queen. Just read her fascinating life story, including details of her work before and after meeting Fred,” added a second.

‘She never stopped working and studying and even taught English in Paris. I love this clip RFP!’

A third commented: ‘What a great find. I’ve never seen this before. She looks absolutely regal.”

Before we met Frederik, the cheerful Mary was active on the Australian social scene and led a very normal life. He studied business and law at the University of Tasmania before working in advertising in Melbourne and Sydney.

In addition to Mary’s short acting stint, she had that too engaged in modeling.

On New Year’s Eve, Queen Margrethe announced that she would step down as monarch after 52 years.

Frederik and Mary made their first official appearance together at the Tasmania Yacht Club ahead of the Dragon Boat World Championship on January 19, 2003

On January 14, she will be succeeded by her son, Crown Prince Frederik.

It means his wife Mary, who he first met in a Sydney pub, will soon become the world’s first Australian-born queen.

She was working as an advertising executive when she first met Frederik in a packed city pub 23 years ago and had no idea that the handsome European tourist she had been talking to for hours was actually the future king of Denmark.

Now married for 19 years and the proud parents of four children, Mary has won over her adopted country through her devotion to royal duty and her command of the language.

And despite speculation about the state of the royal couple’s marriage over the years, there’s nothing concrete to suggest they’re anything but happily married.

The couple were recently rocked by rumors after photos emerged of Frederik, 55, enjoying a night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in Madrid in October.

But despite accusations of an ‘affair’, Frederick and Mary put on a show of unity as they entered Aarhus Cathedral on Christmas Eve.

Chanelle has landed herself in hot water on Big Brother as her immunity from eviction has been revoked over a rule break.

The 29-year-old has been punished by Big Brother after she broke the rules around discussing nominations.

Chanelle had earlier won immunity from being nominated on Monday’s episode following the Hunger Games task.

But she is eligible to be nominated along with her fellow housemates in this week’s nominations.

The official Big Brother X/Twitter account wrote: ‘Breaking news! Big Brother sees it all, including a recent rule break…

‘As a result, Chanelle has had her Eviction immunity revoked, and another Housemate will suffer the wrath of Big Brother. All will be revealed tonight on Big Brother: Late & Live!’

Jenkin is already up for nomination after his fellow housemates voted for him during the Hunger Games task.

During a chat in the living room, Olivia tells Chanelle and Jenkin: ‘Tomorrow is going to be f***ing hard.’

Jenkin says: ‘For you,’ and Chanelle adds: ‘For you.’

Olivia says: ‘Do you know?’, leading Chanelle to say: ‘I forgive but I’ll never forget. For me, my best mate is up for eviction.’

Jenkin interjects: ‘You can’t,’ and Chanelle says: ‘I’m not saying it’s that.’

Olivia replies: ‘Do you know what? In a way I needed to hear that because sometimes I can be a bit like that where I see something in someone and think…’

Fearing the consquences of their chat, Jenkin interjects again: ‘Guys. Just stop this conversation.’

But despite Jenkin’s interruptions, Chanelle and Olivia’s conversation didn’t gone unnoticed by Big Brother.

Tuesday’s episode will also see the housemates given the chance to reunite with their friends and family as part of their shopping task, but only some will get to see their loved ones.

As the day begins, the housemates are woken by Big Brother who instructs them to gather in the living room immediately.

The housemates sit on the sofa and Big Brother says: ‘Housemates. Over the past few hours Big Brother has been made aware of a series of security breaches. In order to keep safe, Big Brother has installed a safe zone in the living room and a security hut at the perimeter of the house.’

Big Brother adds: ‘In a moment Big Brother will run through some new instated security protocols.

‘If all housemates follow these protocols you will win a luxury shopping budget. If you do not follow the protocols, your economy budget will be downgraded to basic rations.’

‘Over the next few hours, housemates will be paired up and take it in turns to complete a shift in the security hut.

‘Throughout the day intruders will attempt to break into the Big Brother house and hack the Big Brother mainframe.’

Big Brother then reveals: ‘Each intruder will have a connection to a housemate.’

Intruders arrive at the Big Brother house in pairs, and the housemates on shift in the security hut must decide together which intruder will be allowed access to the house, with the other being ejected from the perimeter of the house immediately.

Jenkin is already set to face eviction on Friday after his team lost Sunday’s Hunger Games-themed task, while Chanelle was awarded immunity as part of the winning team.

It comes after viewers demanded Jenkin be evicted from the show after his treatment of Yinrun, with many branding the Welshman a ‘bully’.

Viewers took to social media on Monday after spotting him ‘bullying’ his fellow housemate during the live feed, however the footage failed to make the main show.

It comes after the divided house saw a huge blazing row this week with the participants reportedly being locked down for over two hours before Paul and Dylan were both booted in a shock double eviction.

And fans were left horrified after watching Jenkin joyfully tell pals Tom and Olivia how he had refused to share his birthday cake with rival Yinrun.

Saying: ‘You know when you sung Happy birthday to me? She got a me a knife to cut everyone a piece of cake and I went “That’s where you’re mistaken”‘.

With Tom laughing: ‘That would go in the bin before you shared it right?’.

And Olivia agreeing: ‘Yep’.

Taking To X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: ‘Jenkin is definitely a nasty Bully Get him out Of the Big Brother House #BBUK Making Trish & Yinrun Cry’.

While a second said: ‘Where is the clip where Jenkin told Yinrun she can’t have any cake. Why are the producers protecting this bully’.

Someone else said: ‘Jenkin is so fake. In the live yesterday he was bitching about Yinrun trying to cut up cake for everyone and how she didn’t deserve it to his 2 minions’.

And: ‘Perhaps @bbuk could show the real Jenkin – the one who was rude to Yinrun when she gave him a knife to cut the birthday cake’.

Another typed:  ‘So I’m hearing Jenkin actually refused Yinrun some of his bday cake?? Yinrun has been making an effort to put herself out there with him and always gets shut down. Get jenkin out’.

Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

FROM: Scunthorpe

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO GET NOMINATED FOR? ‘Being cantankerous and acting as if I don’t want to be there even if I do in my heart. They might nominate me for being disengaged perhaps or not paying everyone an equal amount of attention. They may feel left out but I can’t help that.’

NOKY

PROFESSION: Banker

FROM: Derby

WHAT MADE YOU APPLY TO BECOME A BIG BROTHER HOUSEMATE? ‘I love challenges. I’ve had so many amazing times in my life, like going to Miss Universe as Miss Great Britain. I like to do something different and I think this is the next challenge I want to conquer. I want to show people what pageant girls are really like and disprove a lot of stereotypes around them. I also show what it’s like being a woman who’s worked in male- dominated fields. I want to show that women are capable of doing anything they want.’

In Wales, we have this saying, “I’ll do it now in a minute.” So like, if I went to make food and I left a dish on the side, I have all good intentions of washing it but I’d be like, “I’ll do it now in a minute,” and it might be three hours later before I do it. So probably for silly stuff like that.’

HOW WOULD YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DESCRIBE YOU? ‘I think they would say I’m particularly sociable and very chatty. I mean, I’ll be honest, my parents would definitely say I’m a bit of a snob but I take it as a compliment. I think it means you’ve got high standards and good taste. They’d say I was quite a peculiar child.’

OLIVIA

AGE: 23

PROFESSION: Dancer

FROM: Glasgow

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO GET NOMINATED FOR? ‘I think when people are in that hangry state, that’s when I’ll wind people up and grind their gears. I think they’ll nominate me for being full on, and for my brutal honesty and oversharing of opinions.’

Federal prosecutors investigating former President Donald J. Trump’s handling of classified materials have a 2021 recording of Mr Trump discussing a sensitive military document he kept after leaving the White House, two people who the matter had been notified.

The recording, in which Mr. Trump also admitted knowing the document was classified, could undermine his repeated claim that he had already released material that remained in his possession after he left office. Prosecutors are investigating whether Mr. Trump obstructed efforts by federal officials to recover documents he carried after leaving office and whether he violated laws governing the handling of classified materials.

The existence of the recording was previously reported by CNN.

The tape was made during a meeting Mr Trump held in July 2021 with people who helped his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, write a memoir of his 10 months in the White House, according to people briefed on the matter . The meeting was held at Mr. Trump’s club in Bedminster, NJ, where he spends summers.

Until now, the focus of the document search has largely been on material Mr. Trump had with him at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Florida, rather than New Jersey.

Mr. Meadows did not attend the meeting, but at least two of Mr. Trump’s aides did. One, Margo Martin, routinely recorded the interviews he gave for books written about him that year.

On the recording, Mr. Trump began swearing at his hand-picked Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark A. Milley, who was described in media reports at the time as having been wary of Mr. Trump’s attack on Iran in the last days of the war. the presidency, according to those briefed on this.

Mr Trump then began to refer to a document he was carrying, saying it was prepared by General Milley and related to the attack on Iran, people briefed on the matter said. Among other comments, he mentioned his classification skills during the discussion, said a person briefed on the matter. You can hear Mr Trump interacting with paper on the tape, although it is not clear if this was the document in question.

The Justice Department has gotten its hands on the recording in recent months, a potentially key piece in a mountain of evidence prosecutors have amassed under special counsel, Jack Smith, since he was appointed in November to oversee federal investigations into the Mr. Trump.

According to two of the people briefed on the matter, Ms. Martin was asked about the recording during a grand jury appearance.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Mr. Trump, said in a statement that “leaks from radical partisans behind this political persecution are intended to raise tensions and continue media harassment of President Trump and his supporters.” He accused prosecutors of meddling in the election through the investigation, which began in early 2022.

Mr. Trump has long touted what he believes was his ability to automatically release materials and has even said he could do it with his mind.

His allies have insisted he had a standing order to release material as he moved it from the Oval Office to the White House residence, a claim that several former senior administration officials say is nonsense. Members of his legal team have warned his assistants not to rely too heavily on that argument as a defense in the documents case.

That claim was most articulated by Kash Patel, a close adviser to Mr. Trump, who testified before a grand jury under an immunity deal forced upon him by prosecutors.

The recording obtained by the special counsel’s office could help prosecutors undermine any argument by Mr. Trump that the documents he took with him when he left the White House had been released. It could also help them demonstrate that Mr. Trump was aware that his abilities to possess — and show off — classified material were limited.

Detectives have questioned witnesses about General Milley in several interviews for several weeks, though they have generally left unclear what they were looking for.

Investigators have several if not all of the recordings of book interviews Mr Trump gave, according to two of the people familiar with the events.

In an interview, Mr Trump said he had taken “nothing of great urgency” when asked if he had anything in his possession.

Mr. Trump is ambiguous when asked if he ever showed classified documents to people after he left the White House. At a CNN event at City Hall in May, he said, “Not really. I would be entitled to it. By the way, they were released afterwards.

Mr. Meadows seemed to echo Mr. Trump’s claim about General Milley in his book.

“The president recalls a four-page report typed by Mark Milley himself,” the book said. “It contained the general’s own plan to attack Iran, which would involve deploying massive numbers of troops, something he urged President Trump on more than one occasion during his presidency. President Trump rejected those requests every time.”

But according to a person familiar with the document in question, the report was not written by General Milley and, in fact, dates from an earlier period in the Trump administration, when General Joseph F. Dunford Jr. was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Jim Mattis was the Secretary of Defense.

General Milley has been interviewed by detectives about the matter, according to a person who was aware of the discussion.
