A pilot needs as much fuel as an airplane… and it’s apparently heavy, according to the experiences of a Virgin Atlantic Senior First Officer.

Rosie Scott, who regularly helms long-haul flights around the world, provided some insight into the type of food pilots get at 30,000 feet.

Sharing a post to her Instagram page @rosiepridepilot, which has almost 37,000 followers, the British pilot gave a behind-the-scenes look at some of the dining options on offer when you’re a mile high.

She explained: “Normally we get crew meals and we also get to have the passenger meals after the service ends.”

There is also a ‘snack bin’ in the cockpit, including sandwiches, fruit, crisps and drinks, as well as Haribo and chocolate bars.

In the footage, the first meal Rosie devours is an “upper class passenger meal that’s uneaten,” with the pilot zooming in on a fancy-looking chocolate dessert that was “a bit squished,” meaning a paying customer wouldn’t have been able to doing. It.

A typical upper class starter on Virgin Atlantic might be salmon gravadlax, while a main course might include dishes such as a Toragashi marinated halloumi poke bowl.

Dessert? A sample menu features a Pimms o’clock summer pudding, followed by a cheese platter.

The pilot reveals that the crew is often served upper class meals that aren't quite perfect enough to serve to the passengers, including this 'slightly crushed' chocolate dessert

She says that many of the meals also come ‘with a great view’.

At “the top of the descent,” Scott shows off an “insane” burger that was brought in, which was actually a plant-based double cheeseburger.

The Senior First Officer also showed off the salt and pepper shakers, shaped like small airplanes, that upper class passengers use.

She jokes: ‘We know you steal them, that’s why we write this on them…’ before turning the shakers over to reveal the words ‘Pinched from Virgin Atlantic’.

A WELLNESS coach has revealed the two anti-aging foods she swears by.

She revealed her anti-aging advice for glowing skin, backed by science.

Valerie (@valerieribon) shared the skincare tip in a TikTok video.

More than just keeping up a good skincare routine, she explained that a nutrient-dense diet was also crucial.

She started eating two foods that turned back time as she got older.

“These are weird things I do to look good when I’m old,” she said.

“If you want to be warm when you’re old, you should have oranges because they contain naringenin.”

Naringenin, a flavanone, is commonly found in citrus fruits and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and protective properties.

Studies have shown that flavanone protects cells against skin aging caused by UVB rays and oxidative stress.

Along with oranges, naringenin is found in high concentrations in grapefruits, sour cherries, tomatoes and Greek oregano.

Most read in Hair & Beauty

“Naringenin blocks the enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid in the body,” Valerie added.

To plump the skin from within, Valerie also deliberately ate foods with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid.

From banana peels to ear massages: five natural anti-aging hacks revealed

“Bone broth is the food with the highest levels of hyaluronic acid,” she said.

Hyaluronic acid, a natural fluid found in the eyes and joints, acts as a lubricant for tissues and joints.

When used on the skin, the liquid helps make the skin flexible, increasing its elasticity.

Hyaluronic acid is often used in cosmetics to stretch the skin and help prevent wrinkles and fine lines.

Anti-aging tips

  • Keep your skin hydrated internally by drinking water and externally with a moisturizer.
  • Always use sunscreen, even if you are not in direct sunlight.
  • Use vitamin C to brighten the skin and don’t forget to apply it to your neck.

Other foods rich in hyaluronic acid include root vegetables, such as turnips, carrots, potatoes and onions.

Leafy greens, such as broccoli, avocado, kiwi, beans and okra, are also hyaluronic acid-friendly.

Valerie added that while any form of bone broth will do for its anti-aging benefits, one was superior.

“Preferably grass-fed,” she said.

One commenter shared helpful foods for vegetarians who couldn’t eat animal byproducts.

“Eat lots of tofu and tempeh! Snow mold and bamboo extract help with collagen production and skin elasticity and do not involve animal cruelty,” they said.

Besides spiritual ashrams, Dehradun tantalizes me from decades-old Mithai legends that preserve regional delicacies to chic bistros that provide inventive desi touches from world cuisine and urge foodies to come and enjoy the versatility of this north Indian center’s cuisine.

Let’s venture to 6 incredible eateries where you are guaranteed to enjoy authentic Garhwali dishes and experimental global menus under one food-loving roof.

1. Chetan Swadisht Kachori – Flaky Poori Goodness

No Dehradun day starts better than crispy pooris dipped in spicy potato curry, dollops of fresh curd and chutney at Chetan Swadisht Kachori – the little street corner stall that whips up delicious breakfast platters to kickstart your day! Watch the arms puff up with hot tawa while you enjoy a cutting chai served in kulhads. For a delicious Dehradun style desi breakfast, this place tops my list.

  • Famous for the poori sabzi breakfast dishes
  • Uses desi ghee for making pooris
  • Attracts a large audience through word of mouth

2. Black Pepper Restaurant – Culinary excellence redefined

When I’m in the mood for global cuisine carefully reinvented with local touches and sophisticated dining service, Black Pepper pairs perfectly with sushi rolls with Indian spices, thin-crust chicken tikka pizza or innovative curries. • Award-winning contemporary restaurant with world cuisine
  • Specialized in experimental vegetarian dishes

  • Regularly puts together a new menu

3. Kumar Sweets – Where sugar meets history!

No gastronomic trail is complete without indulging my sweet tooth with heavenly rasgullas, creamy kaju katlis and more at the Kumar Mithai shop that has been operational since 1948! The pink walls, vintage logo and old-fashioned glass jars packed with traditional Indian mithai sweets have now been adapted to modern desserts as well. For a sugar rush couple with history, Kumar Sweets is my favorite place.

  • Old sweet shop with snacks and mithai
  • Making traditional Indian sweets since 1948
  • Famous for the fluffy texture of rasgullas
  • Also offer chaat like aloo tikki!

4. Kalsang Cafe and Restaurant – Comfort Tibetan snacks

On a quiet street behind the bustling Rajpur Road, this small cafe offers a wonderful glimpse into Tibetan culture through steaming plates of juice vegetable momos, aromatic thenthuk noodles and more, prepared by Sherpa sisters, while blessing icons radiate from yellow walls. Zara28, said: “I have been in love with Creme Eggs for as long as I can remember.

‘I worked at McDonald’s in college and would secretly eat some of the fondant sauce that would go into McFlurrys.

“I would say I have easily eaten one every day this year and often I have eaten several.

“I also ate the Domino’s Creme Egg Biscuits, the Creme Egg Chocolate Bars and small balls.

“I bought quite a few Creme Egg Easter eggs that hold two eggs at a time.”

The Manchester-based social media and digital PR manager estimates she has mocked around 100 so far this year and spent around £70.

And she stocks them up to get through the gloomy summer months if they haven’t been sold.

Zara said: “It’s terrible that they’re not available all year round.”

Creme Eggs have remained a favorite among chocolate lovers since they were first launched in 1963, before being rebranded by Cadbury in 1971.

Domino’s is selling a new Cadbury treat, but it’s only available for a limited time

AN artificial intelligence expert has warned that we are about to witness the fall of AI minions.

Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz revealed his concerns at South by Southwest 2024 in Austin, Texas.

1

An AI expert has predicted the fall of certain generative AI bots in the coming yearsCredit: Getty

“We are about to witness the crash avalanche,” he warned.

The expert used the term bots*** as a pun for a common derogatory phrase.

He explains that this AI avalanche will come as some of the bots that create content on the internet are slowly declining.

AI algorithms like those used by ChatGPT models learn from content on the web.

As AI produces more content on the internet, Kowalkiewicz warned that bots will start learning from themselves.

He described this as the bots eating themselves like a carnivorous and confused snake.

“There are many people who say yes [generative AI] not so good anymore,” he told a small audience.

Even OpenAI has previously admitted that ChatGPT was behaving lazier than normal.

“We’ve heard all your feedback that GPT4 is getting lazier!” the company wrote on X last December.

“We have not updated the model since November 11, and this is certainly not intentional. Model behavior can be unpredictable and we are investigating if we can fix this.”

The chilling AI predicts eight events that could trigger World War III and kill MILLIONS

Kowalkiewicz added that generative AI is “eating its own tail” by “consuming its own content.”

The expert expects that there will be a demise of AI bots in the coming years.

He suspects that during this period, generative AI models will run out of new content to learn from and start consuming nonsense.

Kowalkiewicz gave the example of fake Google search results already appearing due to misinformation in AI content.

An AI avalanche like this could have a negative impact on the information we consume and how well we trust online content.

The expert explores this idea further in his new book The economics of algorithms: AI and the rise of the digital minions.

Reports indicate that as of January 2024, as many as 1.8 million people had signed up to take part in Veganuary – an initiative that encourages people to ditch meat and dairy for a month – and beyond.

While just a few years ago it was difficult to find a vegan option in stores or on menus, plant-based eating is now being described as the fastest growing fast food segment of 2021.

Food delivery service Ubereats reported a staggering 163 percent increase in vegan food orders that year, showing a clear demand for food that is both meat and dairy-free.

But perhaps most importantly when it comes to food launches, Veganuary is described by co-founder Matthew Glover as a ‘bigger retail event than Christmas’ when it comes to food launches.

January is filled with plant-based launches, with retailers, diners and other food suppliers eager to join the Veganuary contingent.

There is a demand from vegetarians for non-vegan dishes in restaurants, according to a debate on (formerly Twitter) this week (stock image)

In other words: there is plenty of demand for vegan food, and supermarkets and restaurants are happy to meet that growing demand.

However, some have noted that demand for plant-based products could have peaked, with a vegan eatery in Macclesfield, Cheshire admitting earlier this year that it had been forced to put meat on the menu to make more money.

Adonis Norouznia said he made the decision to change the menu at Nomas Gastrobar after too many customers came to the restaurant only to leave after reading the vegan menu.

Additionally, a number of meat alternative brands have seen sales decline, causing some businesses to face closure.

However, market research has attributed this to the cost of living crisis and the relatively higher prices of meat and dairy alternatives.

A report from market research company NIQ, entitled Flexitarianism: from niche to mainstream, shows that 14.3 percent (4.1 million) British households will follow a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or flexitarian diet by 2023.

According to Katrina Bishop, UK thought leadership activation manager at NIQ: ‘UK consumers are facing challenging economic pressures, and price is a major factor preventing flexible eaters from purchasing meat and dairy alternatives in the current climate.

‘This is reflected in the impact Veganuary has had in driving new interest this year, with retailers’ focus being more on the overall price message, impacting sales during this period.’

In addition, another debate rages over whether veganism has reached its peak, while sales of some alternative products have declined. But market researchers have blamed the cost of living crisis (stock image)

Vegans do not eat any animal products and choose to avoid all meat and dairy products on ethical grounds.

The Vegan Society describes veganism as a philosophy and way of life that seeks to eliminate – as far as possible and practicable – all forms of exploitation of and cruelty to animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

In addition to excluding animals and their secretions from their diet, vegans avoid wearing their skin (i.e. fur, leather and wool) and using animals for entertainment. For example, they do not visit circuses that use animals, or zoos or aquariums.

But while it’s becoming easier to have a vegan meal when you eat out, one group of people have complained that this comes at a loss: vegetarians.

Unlike vegans, vegetarians simply avoid consuming meat.

Although veganism is a protected belief under the Equality Act, vegetarianism is not so much a preference for simply avoiding meat – and some veggies are irritated by the subjugation of their diet to the trendy alternative.

This means that if restaurants offer a vegan meal, it covers both bases and is acceptable for both vegans and veggies.

This week a debate broke out on X (formerly Twitter) with angry vegetarians complaining that vegan dishes were being offered over vegetarian dishes

But while this may seem like a viable option, a debate on

This is evident from an article on this subject published by the times: ‘A spirited debate about

An irritated vegetarian took to the stage to share his thoughts on the subject, writing: ‘me neither [veggie or vegan] but daughter is a vegetarian and is constantly fretting about the lack of vegetarian options as they have all been replaced with vegan choices. It’s the cheese, for her. She doesn’t want vegan cheese (I’m not sure even vegans want vegan cheese). Interesting others think the same way.’

In a similar vein, a third added: ‘This trend has been annoying me for a while, vegan and vegetarian are different categories. I want cheese, eggs, dairy and honey in my menus. To lump us together is frankly lazy, we both deserve attention! Even if it’s only one choice (vegan), often ultra-processed – super lazy!’

And a fourth agreed, writing: ‘Well, I’m with that reader too! The gradual entry of vegans into restaurant menus, replacing virtually all vegetarian options, is a source of enormous disappointment.”

A fifth added: ‘It’s not exactly a big deal but there is now a trend towards making the one vegetarian option on a menu also vegan. People deserve real cheese!’

However, some disagreed with vegetarians calling for options with ingredients like cheese and eggs on the menu

However, the topic was hotly debated, with a number of people arguing against having both vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.

One wrote: ‘Keep the vegan options as some of us are vegetarian by choice and then have a dairy intolerance. Knowing it’s vegan makes it easier to ask or choose and know it’s okay to eat without the risk of disease.”

Another wrote: ‘It’s a matter of cooking with the lowest common denominator. There are three times as many vegetarians as vegans, but many restaurants no longer have a vegetarian option and expect us to have to make do with vegan.’

Meanwhile, a third added: ‘I’m a vegetarian, I don’t mind the vegan choices, although I will ask if it can be vegetarian if it has cheese in it.’

And a fourth wrote: ‘The question people need to ask themselves is: why are they vegetarian? When it comes to animal welfare, bite the bullet and choose the vegan option and stop complaining.”

Everyone has a different theory on how to survive long-haul flights, but not all of them stand up to scrutiny.

That’s why we separated fact from fiction, by asking cabin crew and frequent flyers what works and what could make the hours in a crowded metal tube less difficult.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: A meal at the airport gives you more time to sleep on board.

THE REALITY: While it makes sense to maximize your sleep time, the chances of you falling asleep peacefully during the first few hours of a flight are slim. This is when the captain and cabin crew are on the tannoy, the meal carts clatter down the aisles and the lights are on high beam. So go with the flow – eat on board and, once the empty containers have been cleared away, pull down your eye mask.

QUICK FIX: Make long-haul flights easier by investing in noise-cancelling headphones, and don’t be afraid to enjoy a glass of sparkling water on board

PERCEIVED WISDOM: Seats in the emergency exit rows are worth paying for.

THE REALITY: These rows, with extra legroom, can feel less claustrophobic and are great if you’re tall.

But there can be downsides, including the cost of around £50 to £70 to book them, and on many long-haul planes the extra legroom seats near the toilets are placed in the middle of the cabin so you hear the doors slam and flush the entire flight. In addition, you cannot keep your bag on your feet during take-off or landing.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: It is best to avoid alcohol – don’t even drink a drop.

THE REALITY: Alcohol is dehydrating and can affect us more at high altitude than on the ground. But it’s also part of the fun of traveling, especially when it’s free on long-haul flights, so in moderation you should be fine.

Keep in mind that a hangover starts about six to eight hours after drinking, so one too many hangovers at the start of a twelve-hour flight could hit you before you land. It is also dangerous to drink late in the flight when picking up a rental car. Police armed with breathalyzers have been known to target roads near airports, especially on the US East Coast.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: Sleeping pills help you arrive at your destination rested.

THE REALITY: Some frequent flyers swear by the hormone melatonin. Although it’s easy to buy in America, in Britain it’s only available with a prescription, and travel doctor and Holiday SOS author Ben MacFarlane warns against trying something new on a plane – 10,000 meters isn’t the best place for a bad response. Instead, he recommends simple paracetamol.

“It is mainly the hard chairs that prevent us from sleeping,” he says. ‘Take the edge off with a mild painkiller and you’ll dream away safely.’

PERCEIVED WISDOM: It is important to bring a neck pillow.

THE REALITY: They range in price from a few pounds for an inflatable one to £60 or more for memory foam, silk-covered or fleece options. But it’s not a disaster if you fly without a seat, as the new generation Economy seats have plenty of support built in. BA’s latest headrests are designed to collapse on each side and enclose your head like a pillow.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: Having a lot of toys distracts young children.

THE REALITY: Toys are a great way to keep the kids busy, but beware: choosing the wrong toy can make everything worse. One to avoid is Lego, because no one wants to crawl under chairs looking for lost pieces. You should also avoid anything that beeps or makes an electronic noise unless you don’t mind being the most hated family on the plane.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: Teenagers will be happy with the screens on the seat backs.

THE REALITY: These days, it’s unlikely there’s anything on the plane’s entertainment system that young people haven’t streamed at home. Instead, let them load content onto their own devices and focus on the number of video games on the inflight system – Emirates has the most, with more than 100. Also give in to the allure of Wi-Fi. Virgin Atlantic is offering an hour for £5.99 or full WiFi from £20.99 – it will be money well spent.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: It is best to sit at the front of each cabin.

THE REALITY: It’s true that booking seats close to the front means you’re more likely to get off the plane and into the immigration queue, which is especially important at busy airports. But the cabin crew says the back of the plane is always emptier, so sit there if you want an empty seat next to you or even a full row to stretch out.

PERCEIVED WISDOM: You can combat jet lag by switching to the time zone you are flying to as soon as you board.

THE REALITY: Going west is tricky because it means having breakfast after takeoff for an afternoon flight to California. Instead, the cabin crew swears by the two-by-two rule: spend two hours eating and watching a movie, two hours napping, two hours snacking and reading, two hours dozing, and so on. Then change your watch to the new time zone when you land.

TEN SIMPLE TIPS FOR A GREAT FLIGHT

  • Beware of cribs. Check the seat plans where the baby baskets are and keep your distance.
  • Move quickly. If you see empty seats after the plane doors close, grab one early. If you cannot move before takeoff, move as soon as the seat belt sign is off.
  • Wrap a cotton pillowcase from home around an inflatable pillow. Fans say this puts the brain into sleep mode.
  • Charm the crew. One passenger is rude, one is friendly… guess who gets extra drinks and snacks.
  • Wear shoes to the toilet, otherwise you’ll spend the rest of the flight wondering if the wet spot on your socks is really water…
  • If you forget your charger, listening to podcasts and audiobooks uses less battery power than movies and games.
  • Put your seat belt over a blanket so the crew can see it and they won’t disturb you while you sleep when turbulence is expected.
  • Low up. The crew says it’s impossible to choose a temperature that will please everyone. Happy flyers have hoodies, vests, scarves or overshirts.
  • Noise-canceling headphones can transform flights. But remember to wear them when you talk, otherwise you’ll be ‘that person’ yelling.
  • Don’t cross your legs. To reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis, keep them straight, flex your toes occasionally, and stay hydrated.

After Man City’s 3-1 win over United at the Etihad, the conversation quickly turned to boxing.

Two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua prepares to face Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

But the 34-year-old British star, who came face to face with WBC titleholder Tyson Fury’s father John this week, took time out to make a special brief appearance on the show.

And he was asked directly who would come out on top in a boxing fight between ex-United captain Keane, 52, and former City defender Richards, 35.

“That’s a great question,” Joshua replied. Let’s look at the story of the tape.

“You’ve got Micah Richards, a big guy who looks like a natural heavyweight, solid.

‘But then you’re talking about Roy Keane, the one and only.

“The man when you talk about that smoke and life, I think he had a little bit of amateur experience…”

Joshua then concluded: “If I was to flip a coin I’d probably say it would probably land on Micah, but you know, if a coin bounces and flips a few times, it’s going to land back on Roy Keane.

“I think Roy Keane will do the job.”

The footage then cut back to the studio, where Keane and Richards sat next to each other, chuckling.

The pair shook hands before Irishman Keane said: ‘I wish I could believe what he said. I think Micah would take me very, very easily.

Richards then asked his friend what he weighed, revealing he had tipped the scales at 16.5.

Keane said he weighed 12.5st, to which Richards said: “I’d eat you for lunch!”

The ex-midfielder then acknowledged that the former full-back “would be favourite” before the pair amicably agreed that they would both happily accept a draw.
