With Easter just around the corner, vets are urging owners to be wary of seemingly harmless household items that could be deadly to dogs.

David Hollinshead at VetsNow in Middlesbrough warns that owners should pay extra attention during celebrations such as Easter, when the risk of accidents is greatest.

“We see a large increase in pet emergencies during holidays and major events, and often this is due to pets eating things they shouldn’t, such as flowers or chocolates,” he said.

Some flowers can be extremely dangerous

One such flower to look out for is the popular spring flower, daffodils, which sources say are highly poisonous to dogs. Blue Cross.

According to the charity, the bulbs are the most dangerous part as this is where the toxins are concentrated, but owners are warned against consuming any part of the flower, including drinking the water from a vase of daffodils.

Symptoms of daffodil poisoning include illness and an upset stomach. If your dog is sleepy and wobbly, these are also telltale signs of daffodil poisoning that you should look out for.

The charity recommends marking out flower spots in the garden and keeping an eye out for daffodils growing in walking areas.

Similarly, a number of other spring flowers, including tulips, buttercups and bluebells, can be fatal. Consuming any part of the plant, especially the bulb, can make dogs sick, and symptoms of stomach upset are often signs of flower poisoning.

Tulips can also cause drooling, nausea and diarrhea, breathing problems and heart palpitations.

Bluebells are one of the most dangerous spring flowering plants and, if consumed in large quantities, can have fatal consequences. The Blue Cross charity is warning owners to be careful when walking through woodland areas where clusters of bluebells can often be found.

Toxic foods to avoid

While preparing the Easter meal can be stressful, it’s vital that owners are also wary of what’s within reach while cooking, pet food company Purina advises. An expensive vet bill will undoubtedly be much more stressful than burnt potatoes.

Pet owners should avoid feeding dogs anything containing sultanas or sultanas, according to Purina, which definitely means hot cruss buns.

Garlic, onions and leeks can also be very dangerous for dogs to consume, with the average vet bill for impending onion poisoning being £339, according to data taken from pet insurance claims.

ManyPets veterinarian Dr. Kirsten Ronngren says this is because onions contain disulfides that can destroy a dog’s red blood cells, leading to a condition called hemolytic anemia.

“Treatment for onion toxicity depends on the size of the pet and how much it has consumed,” she said.

‘In more severe cases, the toxic dose may have been reached, requiring a pet to be treated for anemia.’

Hot cross buns also have the power to result in a hefty vet bill for dog owners. This is because both sultanas and sultanas are poisonous to dogs. It is thought that the tartaric acid in grapes causes the poisoning. Signs of an upset stomach, drooling and loss of appetite are all symptoms of poisoning.

Nutmeg, another common ingredient in hot cross buns, can also be potentially dangerous due to the hallucinogenic toxin myristicin.

Although it is marketed as a healthy alternative, manufacturers tend to put Xylitol, an artificial sweetener, in our food, causing a spike in insulin that can even be fatal for dogs.

Although symptoms often disappear within an hour, the risk of liver failure increases if a lot of Xylitol has been consumed.

Make sure you throw away all chocolate wrappers

While most of us know not to give dogs chocolate, Easter egg packaging can also be harmful to dogs.

Foil packaging can not only pose a choking hazard, but can also lead to a dangerous intestinal obstruction, causing abdominal pain and vomiting.

If you’re trying to make healthier choices for yourself this year, beware that the sweeter one, Xylitol, can be dangerous to dogs.

If you must give them a treat, stick to vegetables

Owners should not only be mindful of what is within the reach of greedy pups, but also be careful about what they feed as leftovers.

Research from Welsh company Burns Pet Nutrition has found that a third of owners overfeed their dogs, with 45 percent even sharing cheese with their dogs.

But founder of vet Burns Pet Nutrition, John Burns MBE, is urging owners to think twice about overfeeding.

‘Dogs don’t necessarily need tasty snacks, only we owners like to give them!’

Don’t let those big puppy eyes pressure you,” he said.

Burns recommends not feeding dogs leftovers and suggests using steamed vegetables if absolutely necessary.

The actress has Blackfeet and Nez Perce heritage and grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana.

She spoke her native Blackfeet language when she became the first Native American to win the Golden Globe for best actress in a feature film drama in January.

Gladstone plays DiCaprio’s wife Mollie Burkhart in the Osage’s shocking retelling of “Reign of Terror,” in which hundreds of Native Americans were murdered by their white legal guardians in the early 20th century for the money they made from their oil-rich land.

The actress said it has been “remarkable” to see how moved her “people back home” in Osage County have been by Scorsese’s adaptation of David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name.

“We have so many stories to tell,” Gladstone told Vanity Fair’s The Hollywood Issue last month.

“It’s just a shock to people when they hear about the Osage Reign of Terror, especially because it’s on such a big stage, I think.

“But there are so many stories to tell, so many things to unpack after just a few centuries of continued genocide on this continent.”

Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated for ten Oscars on Sunday evening, including Best Picture and Best Director for Scorsese. Robert DeNiro is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his turn as William Hale, the mastermind behind the murders.

It’s been 49 years since he was first nominated for The Godfather Part II in 1975.

In the hashtags of her post, Zhone revealed that she bought her essentials at Dollar Tree.

She started with 15 to 20 bouquets of fake flowers in different colors.

The wife of a producer of the Oscar-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon has died by suicide, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's office.

Bradley Thomas' wife, Isabelle, 39, jumped to her death at the Hotel Angeleno on Monday evening, authorities confirmed.

The manner of death has been ruled a suicide by the LA County Coroner's Office, citing multiple traumatic injuries.

The LAPD told DailyMail.com that police responded to the scene about a deceased woman found in the pool.

Witnesses initially said they thought she had jumped from the roof, with the story first reported by TMZ.

However, TMZ claims that law enforcement sources told them that Isabelle jumped from a high-floor balcony.

The outlet claims no suicide note was left behind, but police have not publicly confirmed that information.

Hotel Angeleno declined to comment when contacted by telephone by DailyMail.com on Thursday.

Bradley and Isabelle married in 2018 and have two young children.

They were recently pictured together at the 2024 BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills on January 13.

The tragic news comes now that Bradley's film has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, among other awards.

Thomas was also one of the producers behind other hit films, including There's Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber.

NO flower girl, no friends, no groom, no money and no wedding.

A bridesmaid said a 'bridezilla' got everything she was owed when she ruined her own wedding.

The bridesmaid, u/lrhunrecounted the events leading up to the big day on a Bridezilla stories forum.

She explained that her friend Dana was supposed to marry her boyfriend Josh weeks ago, but ended up ruining her own wedding.

Even before the day broke, the bridesmaid was shocked by what she and her other friends had to put up with.

“She refused to invite my best friend, who she is supposedly good friends with, because she thinks we are lesbian lovers. We are not,” she said.

“She made us go to a dress fitting and then demanded that each of us pay $2,000 for our dresses,” she continued.

“Apparently she had a specific style she wanted. I can afford it, but I'm not going to buy a $2,000 dress for one occasion. Some of the girls in the bridal party don't have that flexibility with money.”

Moreover, she found out that the groom was not allowed to invite friends who were not related to him.

Many on the guest list were also bullied for not being able to cater to the bride's whims.

“One of the girls in the bridal party doesn't drink because of her religion. Dana accused her of being pregnant in front of her parents and almost got her kicked out of the house,” she said.

“She wasn't pregnant and she left the bridal party. However, she was a class act and she never spoke ill of Dana. She just said she couldn't make it.'

It seemed like almost every step of the wedding preparations was a mess, even the bachelor party.

“She tried to get us to cancel our vacations with our families so we could go to a bachelor party with her instead,” she said.

“I work full time, even on holidays, so I told her that wasn't happening. More bridesmaids said similar things and she dropped it.”

Things got off to a terrible start on the big day when the flower girl called in sick with chickenpox, which the bride didn't take well.

“She threatened to sue the mother unless she brought this sick three-year-old to the wedding,” she said.

The bride continued to have emotional outbursts, to which the bridesmaid responded well, while the bridesmaid resigned herself to tasks that gave her excuses to be away from the bride.

“I ended up getting my makeup and hair done and then the bride asked for some time alone to 'relax' from the stress. We didn't even fight it, you couldn't see a group of women running away faster,” she said .

We left like the devil was after us. I checked with the other bridesmaid and they all got away.

Thirty minutes before the ceremony, the bridesmaid sat in the chapel on her phone for a little quiet time.

Just before that she found out that it had been canceled completely.

“It must have been about five minutes before the wedding when MoH came by to tell me the wedding had been cancelled. I asked her what had happened,” she said.

“MoH: Dana had a 'quickie' with Josh's uncle in the room. Josh caught them.”

The bridesmaid was disgusted by the behavior of the 55-year-old uncle, who she later discovered had known the bride since she was a teenager.

The shock at the news was an understatement, as the bridesmaid's jaw was “about to hit the floor,” but she quickly recovered, gathered the two bridesmaids she was carpooling with and left.

“We left like the devil was after us. I checked with the other bridesmaid and they all got away,” she said.

Later that evening, a call to the Maid of Honor revealed that Josh had called off the wedding, ditched the bride and his uncle, and left with his friends for a big bachelor party.

“Apparently he also told Dana and her parents that she would pay the cancellation fee,” she said.

“According to MoH, Dana's father told her in front of everyone that she paid for it herself because she was so bad.”

The bridesmaid was relieved that the whole fiasco was over. Or so she thought.

“I received a call from Dana less than an hour ago demanding $5,000 to help pay her cancellation fees. According to Dana, it was our duty as the bridal party to pay her cancellation fees,” she said.

'I told her clearly no and that she might as well lose my number. I will never speak to this woman again.

“This is pretty much the response from all the Bridesmaids and the Department of Defense. By the way, the Department of Defense? Josh's older sister.'

People agreed that the groom came out on top in the end, despite the wedding disaster.

“Josh dodged a bullet,” said one commenter.

“Wow, that was fun to read, I love it when karma comes around,” said another.

“Dude got lucky and should send his uncle a gift basket for getting him out of that marriage.”

The volunteer guide in the beautiful Horticulture Museum in Aalsmeer describes his long, grueling life as a lilac grower. “I started at 15 and my father died when I was 19, so I had to take over as the eldest son,” he says. 'That's how it goes.'

His shrug suggests that he might have enjoyed a different life, but the lilacs and caring for the family had to come first. And that's how it has been for generations.

From early April to mid-May, the Northern Netherlands turns into a vibrant, striped carpet as the tulips come into full bloom. My husband, photographer Robin, and I are heading to Aalsmeer. It's just a short bus, train or taxi ride south of Schiphol Airport and yet a completely different world.

This pleasant town, about half an hour's drive from Amsterdam and known as 'the flower capital of the Netherlands', may lack the elegant historic architecture of nearby Haarlem, but its two glorious features are flowers and water. The entire display in the Flower Art Museum changes every three months and every morning the largest flower auction and market in the world takes place in the extensive Bloemenveiling Aalsmeer complex.

From 7 a.m. you can watch the spectacle, when small cars full of flowers drive back and forth to deliver boxes of flowers from growers to buyers who export them all over the world.

Around 19 million flowers and 2 million plants are sold every weekday, with a daily turnover of around £5 million.

Because lilac is my favorite scent and color, I take plenty of time to get to know the beautiful shrubs that have made Aalsmeer famous. Amazingly, 95 percent of the world's cut lilac stems come from this area. Recently, one of the large family businesses (run by the Kramers – two parents and two cool sons) fulfilled an order from a family in the Middle East for 30,000 lilac bushes in different colors to decorate a wedding. Purple lilacs symbolize love, blue is happiness, magenta passion and white innocence – so the father of the bride covered all the bases.

We take a boat trip through a maze of small islands on the beautiful Westeinderplassenmeer, where the bushes are densely planted. Lilacs are grown all over the world, but the rich, black soil of the marshy Netherlands is perfect and the cultivation techniques in Aalsmeer are unique.

It takes six years before you can prune the first branches of a shrub. The cultivation is very tough: each bush is dug by hand, transported by boat to greenhouses where the flowers bloom and then (after about five weeks) transplanted back to the islands.

Our base is the friendly, family-run Hotel de Jonge Heertjes on a beautiful square in the center of Aalsmeer. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, especially Restaurant On The Rock and the bustling Brasserie de Haven. They are hugely popular with the locals – always a good sign.

For tulips we travel to another area: the Beemster. This is a 'polder', or piece of reclaimed land, which was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999 and is famous for growing tulips and cheese from the Frisian cows that thrive on the rich, moist grass. It's a beautiful area for cycling, but I decide against it because, honestly, my days on two wheels are over.

Instead, Robin drives me in a small electric car called a Twizy, like a bubble car from the 1960s. It's beautiful but draughty.

Farmers let you visit their fields as long as you are respectful, so at Nicolaashoeve Farm I can realize my dream: standing among the tulips, with my feet caked in black clay.

All we're missing is sunlight to dazzle those rows of pink and purple flowers – but this is Northern Europe after all. In addition, there is the warmth of the Dutch, always willing to explain how to plant and harvest their world-famous flower bulbs.

When it starts to rain we buy delicious Beemster cheese in a popular shop owned by the Groot family. They have photos on display showing generations of the family making and selling their products.

Cheese and tulips nourish body and mind, we think, but here my husband is in his element and I realize that he is more interested in food than flowers. The store is full of rounds of cheese, the wash rings of which indicate flavors in different colors, including herbs, garlic and chili. We stock up for home, because the cheese travels well.

To feel the spirit of the beautiful Netherlands, you must understand the ongoing war against water. The old name 'the low land' tells you that much of it is well below sea level – and the Dutch have worked tirelessly for hundreds of years to become experts in flood protection. The land, so calm on the surface, bustles with constant activity below to prevent water from reclaiming its territory.

For more information, we visit the Cruquiusgemaal on the way from Aalsmeer to Haarlem. Robin is fascinated as the guide explains the workings of the enormous Victorian steam pump (no longer in use, of course) that helped turn the vast Haarlemmermeer into land for people. It was designed by British engineers and made in Cornwall. It is humbling to think that without the country's pumping network there would be no flowers, no tourists and no livelihoods.

Once we get home, I long for a memory of our wonderful holiday in the Netherlands. I send my husband to the shops to buy me a huge bunch of Dutch tulips in my favorite colors. Not a romantic, he doesn't know that these pink and purple flowers symbolize perfect love.

“Barbenheimer” and Killers of the Flower Moon dominated the 96th Academy Awards nominations, announced Tuesday morning from the academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer came away with a leading 13 Oscar nominations and received a nod for best picture; Nolan's direction; acting nominations for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt; and several awards for the craftsmanship of the drama.

Barbie received eight nominations, including a nod for best picture; Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor; and two candidates for the best song. However, Gerwig fell outside the best director category.

Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy will compete for the prize for best actor in the leading role. Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright also received nominations.

The 96th Academy Awards will be held live on ABC on March 10 at 7 p.m., hosted for the fourth time by Jimmy Kimmel.
