“Barbenheimer” and Killers of the Flower Moon dominated the 96th Academy Awards nominations, announced Tuesday morning from the academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer came away with a leading 13 Oscar nominations and received a nod for best picture; Nolan's direction; acting nominations for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt; and several awards for the craftsmanship of the drama.

Barbie received eight nominations, including a nod for best picture; Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor; and two candidates for the best song. However, Gerwig fell outside the best director category.

Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy will compete for the prize for best actor in the leading role. Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright also received nominations.

Leonardo DiCaprio was not recognized for his acting in Killers Of The Flower Moon.

Joy defies the Hollywood standard of what a leading lady should look like. She already has a Golden Globe and is favorite for a Bafta and an Oscar for her performance as the bereaved chef in The Holdovers.

Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer were nominated for best director, with Greta Gerwig's Barbie snubbed.

Gerwig was nominated for best director in 2018 for her solo directorial debut Lady Bird. Only three women have won an Oscar for best director: Kathryn Bigelow, Chloe Zhao and Jane Campion.

Although Nolan is considered the big-budget auteur of his time, he never won an Academy Award, nor did any of his films win Best Picture.

Bradley Cooper was not nominated for directing Maestro, but he was recognized for his acting in that biofilm.

American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest earned best picture nominations.

The 96th Academy Awards will be held live on ABC on March 10 at 7 p.m., hosted for the fourth time by Jimmy Kimmel.
