Last April, state drug agents in Oklahoma intercepted in the dead of night an 18-wheeler heading east toward the Arkansas border smuggling 7,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in boxes mounted with security cameras.

According to the State Bureau of Narcotics, the marijuana came from licensed farms in Oklahoma. But the driver was bound for New York, where his cargo could fetch millions of dollars from old street dealers and new, rogue pharmacies that make up the illicit market, officials said.

The episode, part of a broader crackdown on Oklahoma’s rogue operators, offered a glimpse into a troubling trend emerging from the country’s patchwork on legalization. New York, like other states, has legalized marijuana but has been very slow to open licensed stores and expand licensed producers. As a result, many states with a surplus of legal weed, such as Oklahoma, have found a lucrative market for their products on the streets and in unlicensed dispensaries in New York.

The unfettered competition of the illegal market has stirred confusion and suspicion among legal suppliers, retailers and consumers.

Products from some of California’s most successful brands have popped up in both licensed and unlicensed stores in New York. Axel Bernabe, the former chief of staff for the Office of Cannabis Management, said it was frustrating for regulators to visit unlicensed stores and see how consistently they were stocked.

The US economy grew much faster than expected in the last three months of last year, defying expectations.

America missed a recession – which many analysts had predicted was inevitable.

Gross domestic product (GDP), a measure of all goods and services produced, rose 3.3 percent annually from October through December, the Commerce Department said Thursday.

The Wall Street consensus was for a growth rate of only 2 percent in the fourth quarter.

The pace was slightly lower than the 4.9 percent in the third quarter from July to September, thanks to a strong increase in consumer spending.

Wall Street's major indexes were set for an open higher as strong economic growth raised hopes of the likelihood of a rare “soft landing” – when inflation is brought back without a recession or a big rise in unemployment.

The latest figures reflect the surprising sustainability of the US economy – and the US consumer's willingness to spend despite high interest rates and price levels.

It is the sixth consecutive quarter in which GDP has grown by 2 percent or more annually.

Princess Anne's daughter, 42, looked effortlessly chic as she wore a £38 long-sleeved shirt from Patagonia as she stepped out on Australia's Gold Coast on Friday.

The nine-leaf symbol on the pocket of the light blue jersey most likely refers to the label's commitment to using sustainably grown hemp in its clothing.

It is grown “in collaboration with suppliers who use advanced processing techniques that minimize waste,” the company said website.

The brand says its hemp is also blended with “organic cotton, recycled polyester and TENCEL lyocell.”

Hundreds of well-wishers had been queuing since the early hours to catch a glimpse of the royals, waving excitedly as the King and Queen Consort made their way to church.

Prince Harry has remained in the US with Meghan and their two children Archie and Lilibet – despite recent hopes of a thaw in relations between King Charles and his youngest son.

The royal festivities usually start when everyone arrives on Christmas Eve. The family opens presents, some of which are gag presents – one of the royal family’s traditions.

The family then attends services at St. Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas morning. Once they get home, a Christmas lunch is served, followed by games in the afternoon.

Last Christmas the royals experienced their biggest change in decades as they celebrated their first festive period without Queen Elizabeth II, who had died just a few months earlier.

The King and Queen, along with the Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, waved to well-wishers as they attended a Christmas Eve service at the church on Sunday.

Royal Christmas holidays traditionally include greeting people outside the church, and a family lunch with turkey and all the trimmings.
