A controversial debate broke out on British show Good Morning Britain today when the program hosted a debate on whether it is okay to marry for money.

The conversation comes after a survey of 2,000 people, in which one in eight admitted they had financial regrets and wished they had a wealthier spouse.

“Meanwhile, the hashtag ‘how to marry rich’ currently has 3.9 million views on TikTok, so is it right to marry for money?,” the show asked.

The show, presented by Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, hosted money broadcaster Danni Nicholls, who is married to footballer Dean Holden, and who said: ‘It’s smart to know someone who will give you financial security’.

And according to the program, “that was part of her husband’s appeal when they were dating.”

Announcer Danni Nicholls (pictured) thinks it’s a good idea to marry for money and finds people who have the courage to earn a good salary attractive

She took on businesswoman Caroline Stanbury, who said money should not influence how you choose your partner.

Explaining her position, Danni said: “As controversial as this may seem at first glance, you have to look at these things. You have to look at people’s prospects.

‘It’s not necessarily about how big their bank account is. I mean, statistically apparently…men who make a lot of…money [on their own] who have not inherited money may be risk takers, and so are more likely to actually lose the money.

‘So at some point they are more likely to go bankrupt.

“The thing is, though, if someone is willing to get up and out of bed, and they fight and are driven, I find that very attractive.”

When asked why it’s not sexy if someone is rich, Caroline replied: ‘It’s not not sexy.

“I’m just saying it shouldn’t be the most important factor. And I think [Danni] I just put it out there – it’s like I’m not saying, “You’re advocating dating and marrying men on benefits and sitting at home doing absolutely nothing.”

The debate on Good Morning Britain raised some interesting points about whether you should marry for money or not

‘If you go to work, you want your husband to go to work too.

“But I mean, I never asked the guy how much he’s worth or what he makes, and I don’t care because I own my own money.”

Susanna then asked, ‘Caroline, people marry for looks, they marry for a sense of humor. Why is money different?’

She replied, “I just don’t think money creates stability.

Furthermore, Caroline said: ‘I come from kind of a rich background and I know a lot of rich people [who have] made money, lost money, [and] are not stable because of money.

“And so just because you’re married to it doesn’t mean you’re going to end up with it.

“I also say that unless the guy literally signs it and puts it in your bank account, it’s not your money.

“There are many people who divorce and still walk away with nothing.”

When the program on

One commenter said: ‘Marriage should be about love and partnership, not financial gain. Encouraging people to marry for money perpetuates harmful stereotypes and undermines the value of real relationships.”

Another added: ‘And that’s why I’m not getting married until I find a millionaire. No, if you really love someone, it shouldn’t be about money.’

And a third wrote: ‘It’s not right to marry for money but to say there’s no harm in trying to find someone you love who happens to be rich.’

Rock icon Jimmy Barnes walked his daughter Eliza-Jane down the aisle last month to marry her longtime partner Jimmy Metherell.

The 67-year-old Working Class Man hitmaker looked every bit the proud dad in a series of stunning photos from the wedding.

Just a few months earlier, the Scottish-born Australian was in intensive care and feared for his life as he underwent open-heart surgery.

But he was the picture of wholesomeness on his daughter’s big day, which was held at The Stables on Berrima’s Bendooley Estate on February 28.

Eliza-Jane, 39, broke down in tears as she clung to her famous dad ahead of the wedding.

She was a classic beauty on her big day, donning a vintage wedding dress with a nude base and white lace overlay, designed by Collette Dinnigan.

The performer enhanced her flawless features with a no-makeup makeup look and accessorized her luscious dark curls with a matching white floral crown.

“It was just an amazing celebration of love, and we were so happy that Dad was in such good shape for our wedding,” the singer-songwriter shared. women’s Day last Monday.

‘My father also had health problems at the end of last year, just before Christmas. So it was even more special to have both of our fathers there.”

Barnes admitted that he became “very emotional” during the day, saying: “I even shed a tear during rehearsal. Just the whole thing, you know.”

Sharing several photos on his Instagram, Barnes wrote, “We sang together as I walked EJ down the aisle to give her away, and nothing could have made me prouder.

“EJ sang her vows in a love song she wrote for her Jim. Jim joined our family and we joined the Metherell clan.

‘What more could a man ask for than the blessing of all these special loved ones around me.’

The bride’s father wore an all-black traditional Scottish outfit, including a kilt and boots.

EJ and Metherell, 36, welcomed 140 guests to their union at the estate, which is not far from Barnes and his wife Jane’s home in the Southern Highlands.

Guests included Crowded House star Neil Finn and Mark ‘Diesel’ Lizotte, who performed Otis Redding’s I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.

Additional co-host and Eliza-Jane’s cousin David Campbell also made good use of his pipes, singing the Elvis classic Love Me Tender during the bridal waltz.

Her siblings Mahalia, Jackie and Ella-May were also in attendance, along with Metherell’s very musical family.

The bride and groom, who have been together for almost a decade, welcomed their two-year-old son Teddy as the ring bearer.

“It was just an amazing celebration of love, and we were so happy that Dad was in such good shape for our wedding,” EJ told Woman’s Day last Monday.

After a traditional honeymoon, the family of three will fly back to their Auckland home to celebrate and start the next chapter of their lives.

Despite the happiness that radiated from their love ceremony, there was a real fear that Barnes would not make it to his daughter’s wedding.

The Australian rock legend spoke a few months ago about his close encounter with death and the serious fear that he would not wake up after heart surgery.

Barnes has survived his fair share of health issues during his many years of life, along with his drug and alcohol addiction.

But two months ago he became fearful for his health after being struck by a life-threatening infection that affected his heart.

At one point, while in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, a seriously ill Barnes told his wife Jane, “I don’t think I’m going to make it.”

‘I just had a terribly sick feeling, because I’ve never felt so sick before. I thought I was gone,” he said 60 minutes amid his recovery.

Hours before going to the hospital, an unwell Barnes took the stage at a memorial concert for his late friend and promoter, Michael Gudinski.

Germaine Greer has suggested that intelligent women could be happier if they married ‘truck drivers’.

The feminist and author, 85, told the Louis Theroux Podcast: The idea that couples have to ‘compete with each other’ in their careers is ‘a bad idea’.

Explaining her comments, she told podcaster Theroux: “Women always think we need that status with our husbands.

‘He doesn’t think he needs that status with us. So there has been an imbalance from the start.’

Speak of Castlemaine in Australia, she referred to the relationship between married poets Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath, saying that history remembers Hughes as a “great poet” while Plath is remembered as a “female poet or a martyr.”

On Louis Theroux’s podcast, academic and feminist Germaine Greer said women think they need their husbands to have ‘status’ – but men don’t feel the same, so ‘there’s an imbalance from the very beginning’

During the episode, which lasted an hour and 15 minutes, Theroux also pressed Greer about her flirtation with the late footballer George Best.

Although she denied having an affair with the Manchester United legend, she admitted she got ‘completely entangled’ with the late star.

She said: ‘I was at him. He was also a damn good football player. But I mean, what happened there is I ignored George.”

The pair met at The Brown Bull pub in Manchester, she reveals, saying: ‘One night I was there sucking suds and he said to me, you don’t like me, do you?’

Speaking about the “No Platform” or cancel culture that has evolved, she told Theroux that no one has a “God-given right to speak.”

She replied, “George, for God’s sake, there isn’t a woman in this room you don’t like. What do you think I am? A monster? Abnormal.’

Despite the flirting, she said, “I didn’t immediately jump on him or vice versa.”

During the episode, Greer also said students were right to protest her views on transgender issues, saying no one has a “God-given right to speak.”

The intellectual reflected on her controversial appearance at Cardiff University in 2015, in which she made transphobic comments.

Almost ten years ago, she told those present during the guest lecture: ‘I don’t believe that a woman is a man without recognition. You can hit me in the head with a baseball bat. It still won’t change my mind.’

Students from the educational institution protested before Greer’s performance and outside the venue on the day.

In the podcast episode, Theroux suggested that “the left may be more censorious and” less tolerant of dissent and more opposed to freedom of expression.”

Greer, who rose to fame after writing The Female Eunuch in 1970, responded by saying of the protesting students: “I’m on their side. If they want me to keep my mouth shut, fine. Go for it.

Brad Pitt may be embroiled in a very bitter and public divorce from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, but the tumultuous time was made easier thanks to his girlfriend Ines de Ramon, insiders claim.

The 60-year-old Hollywood mogul reportedly feels he has found ‘the one’ in 34-year-old jewelry designer Ines, who is free from drama and stress and whom he respects for helping him make decisions about his career.

“Brad is happy there is no drama with Ines,” an insider told DailyMail.com exclusively. ‘He doesn’t have to think about anything negative when he’s with her.

‘They are in their own world and enjoy each other’s company. Not that Brad experiences much stress in his life, although everyone knows Angie is the biggest.’

The source added that Brad enjoys discussing his various acting roles with Ines and “appreciates” her input into his career, as they stressed that the reason things are going so well is because there is “no drama and no pressure.”

“He trusts her and believes she is the best for him and there is no hidden agenda behind it,” they said.

But even though they live together and see a ‘future’, they have no intention of saying ‘yes’ yet.

“He considers this his last relationship,” the source continued. ‘If that leads to marriage, it won’t happen anytime soon because they haven’t talked about it yet.

“They are happy and want to see where living together will take them.”

Dailymail.com has reached out to Brad’s rep for comment.

Sources previously told DailyMail.com: “Brad is happy and in love with his girlfriend Ines, but any sign of engagement, marriage or eloping is not in the near future,” the insider continued.

“Brad isn’t shy about getting married again, it’s just not something either of them are thinking about.”

The latest news comes a week after Ines was pictured carrying another huge bouquet of flowers as she headed home to the Los Angeles pad she shares with the Fight Club actor.

Last month, she was spotted on Valentine’s Day with the help of an assistant carrying a huge crystal vase of flowers, believed to be from Brad.

The couple has made several loved-up appearances since they were first pictured together at a Bono concert in Los Angeles in November 2022.

Brad took Ines to his Babylon premiere in December 2022, before the pair went on to enjoy his 60th birthday later that month, as well as New Year’s Eve and a trip to Paris.

Their romance came just two months after Ines announced her split from Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley. The couple was married for three years. He filed for divorce in February 2023.

Last week they attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where Brad was in attendance to help honor his friend Bradley Cooper with the Outstanding Artist of the Year award.

The loved-up couple struggled to keep their hands off each other, with Ines resting her hand on Brad’s thigh as they laughed together.

Their relationship blossomed six years after his divorce from Angelina, 48, who accused him of volatile behavior, and also came in the middle of a legal battle over their French vineyard.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor sued the actress for selling her stake in Château Miraval in 2021, accusing her of orchestrating a “hostile takeover” of the company.

They allegedly agreed verbally that they would not sell without the other’s permission.

The film stars, who met in 2004 while filming Mr. And Mrs. Smith and collectively known as ‘Brangelina’, share six children: sons Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, and Knox, 15, and daughters Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 17, and Vivienne, 15.

They married in August 2014 after ten years together, but Angelina filed for divorce in September 2016.

At the time, the Maleficent actress chose to file “for the health of the family” and asked for full physical custody of their children following an incident on the couple’s private plane, alleging that Brad was violent and became offensive. He vehemently denied the charges and was acquitted.

Angelina was awarded full physical custody in September 2016, with Brad granted visitation rights.

Two months later, he filed for joint and physical custody of the children.

In December, Brad filed (but was later denied) a motion to seal the custody-related documents.

In January 2017, the estranged couple released a joint statement announcing that they had signed an agreement to keep their court documents confidential.

The judge ordered Angelina to help repair Brad’s relationship with their children and he was given more time with them.

But in August 2018, Angelina accused Brad of not paying “meaningful” child support. Within 24 hours, Brad’s lawyers filed a response claiming that he had paid her $9 million since their divorce.

A judge granted them both single status on April 12, 2019, as the couple continued to finalize their divorce.

Brad was granted joint custody by private judge John Ouderkirk in May 2021, but Angelina contested this.

Two months later, a California appeals court disqualified Judge John on the grounds that he had not adequately disclosed business relationships with Brad’s attorneys.

The joint custody ruling was subsequently lifted after his removal.

The game is inspired by De Lesseps’ new cabaret tour, titled Marry F. Kill. Zagami gave the reality star three Real Housewives options with Frankel, 53, Sonja Morgan And Jill Zarin. For De Lesseps, the answer was ‘easy’.

“Well, Sonja has been crazy about me for years,” she joked about her friend and Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake costar. “So I’ll have to fuck Sonja and her beautiful cat.”

After Frankel and Zarin ended their 13-year feud on her podcast “Just B,” De Lesseps shaded Frankel’s new endeavor, claiming she only did it because of the content.

“I’m happy that she and Jill are back in touch, because Jill has wanted this to happen for years,” De Lesseps told E! News at the time. “I don’t think Bethenny was that interested, but she needs a guest. She needs one Housewifethere you go.”

“It feels pretty likely since I did [sic] my life is not a cabaret,” Frankel joked to a fan via Threads in July 2023.

Later that year, Frankel made headlines with her “reality reckoning,” in which she proposed a plan for reality TV stars to unionize. While De Lesseps said she understood where Frankel was coming from, she noted that she only had a positive experience with the show and didn’t entirely agree with it.

“Now I know that for some people this isn’t the case and that’s why I don’t think what she’s doing is wrong,” she told the newspaper. Daily email in October 2023. “I just think by filing a lawsuit and all that, you’re going after the hand that fed you and made you a star.”

“I thank God for a healthy season and for putting my best friend on this earth,” Culpo wrote on Friday, February 23, while posing in a white dress. “Let’s get married now!”

In the shot, Culpo, 31, sat on McCaffrey’s lap while holding their goldendoodle Oliver Sprinkles Culpo McCaffrey. And instead of posing from a football stadium, the couple smiled for the camera on a balcony overlooking the ocean blue waters.

“I love you ❤❤❤,” McCaffrey wrote in the comments section after trading in a football helmet for a baseball cap. He completed his off-season look with a white T-shirt and green shorts.

Since she started dating McCaffrey, 27, in June 2019, Culpo has been supportive of his career as an NFL running back. In fact, her excitement was stronger than ever when she watched the San Francisco 49ers play in the Super Bowl on February 11.

As the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in Las Vegas, Culpo expressed how proud she was of McCaffrey and his team after the biggest football game of the year.

“My heart is full of so many emotions,” she captioned a TikTok video on Feb. 15, alongside a slideshow of the couple before and after the game. “Sad because I wish the outcome was different, but ultimately grateful for the opportunity to watch someone I love do what they love and pour their heart and soul into getting better every day.”

She continued, “I’m so proud of you Christian, you deserve the world. Thank you everyone so much for the love and support this year! It means so much.”

Now that McCaffrey’s schedule is a little freer, some fans are hoping that his wedding to Culpo will happen sooner rather than later. While the couple – who got engaged while on vacation in Utah in April 2023 – are keeping their special day private for now, a source previously told We weekly that the ceremony will take place out of season.

“The atmosphere is elegant and luxurious,” the insider said. “Olivia had a hard time picking out the perfect dress because she has worn so many dresses, but she found the one!”

Culpo previously indicated what makes this couple a winning couple Us a glimpse into her romance.

‘We both understand it very much [our] schedules and the way things have to work for now, and that definitely helps,” she shared exclusively Us in November 2022. “I think if you’re on the same page with that… you can really make it work.”

Coleen Nolan has revealed she may marry her partner Michael Jones in the future, but only if he agrees to sign a prenup first.

The 58-year-old Loose Women presenter, who was previously married to Shane Richie and Ray Fensome, told how the financial difficulties of divorce have put her off ever having to go through it again.

Speaking of Kaye Adams How to Turn 60 podcastshe said, “I think Michael would really like to get married someday.

“If it meant a lot to him, maybe I would, but I'd make him sign a big damn piece of paper before I did that because I'm not going to go through that again.

'I looked at it. 100 percent. From there it is sorted and it is a reference point; No one thinks they're breaking up. I've been married twice, thinking they were both for life.'

The 58-year-old Loose Women presenter, who was previously married to Shane Richie and Ray Fensome, told how the financial difficulties of divorce have put her off ever having to go through it again.

Coleen described sorting out the finances after a couple decide to divorce as 'terrible' and she would like everything to be worked out in advance.

She said: 'I never went into a marriage thinking, what if it doesn't work? And neither of them ended up doing it.

'On an emotional level it's traumatic enough, but when there are lawyers involved and you divide everything up, it comes down to who owns what. How many do you have? Give him 50 percent. Stop trotting.

'It is a terrible stage and I would like to have that stage worked out. That if this doesn't work out – and I hope so forever – but if it doesn't work out, then this is the situation that is written down in legal form.'

Coleen added: 'I've always been against prenuptial agreements because I find them really unromantic and as if you go into them saying 'well it probably won't work so sign this.'

But she told fellow Loose Women presenter Kaye that her split from Ray in 2018 left her particularly scared of going through the same thing again.

She said: 'Hopefully it works out and we never have to look at that piece of paper again, but what I went through in my last divorce is something I never want to experience again. While I didn't hate Ray, there were times when I thought, “Oh my God, this is so unfair.” '

Coleen has remained friends with her exes and Ray even plays guitar as part of her solo show Naked which she is currently touring around the country.

She said: 'It's a very different relationship and I feel like an adult for the first time in my life. I don't feel like a crazy teenager in a relationship. It's a 100 percent partnership.

“I lead quite an unpredictable life work-wise and I just want to be peaceful in my personal life and he brings such calmness to my crazy life. Nothing is a drama. I've never had that before and it's a wonderful feeling.'

The presenter told how she broke up with Michael several times and eventually went to therapy to sort out her feelings.

She said: 'I was so confused I had sex with Michael three times. It had nothing to do with him. I went to therapy because I wasn't used to dealing with someone like that. I said, “I'm going to Teso,” and he said, “I'm coming with you,” and I said, “Why are you coming with me to the supermarket?”

“I pushed everything I wanted in my life away from a relationship because I wasn't used to it.”

Coleen also discussed her family's battle with cancer. Her eldest sister Bernie died of breast cancer in 2013, while Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, which has since spread to her brain.

Her eldest sister Anne was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time three years ago.

Coleen said: 'I think Michael would really like to get married one day. If it meant a lot to him, maybe I would, but I'd make him sign a really big damn piece of paper before I did it.”

Coleen recently had a carcinoma removed from her shoulder and has pre-melanoma on her face, which requires treatment.

She said: 'Cancer just loves our family. I very much live with the fear that I could be next. I see a breast specialist every year and I get a mammogram every two years and I monitor myself all the time.

'You could worry to death and some days I do too, but I try not to live in a bubble of fear. I have been very lucky in love. I've had two wonderful marriages.

'Although they didn't last, they were great marriages when they were good and we have three beautiful children. And I was lucky enough to have found another wonderful love.”

When she thinks of her sister, Payzee Mahmod fondly remembers how they laughed together in their bunk beds.

Payzee and Banaz were born seventeen months apart and looked so alike that strangers thought they were twins. They traded clothes and makeup. They styled each other's hair and shared dreams for the future. Payzee holds on to these moments tightly because she has another horrific memory: seeing her sister's body in a hospital morgue.

Payzee Mahmod, 32, is campaigning to ban honour-related abuse following the death of her sister

“The police didn't want me to see her,” says Payzee, now 32. “But I insisted. It was the only way I could truly believe she was dead.”

Banaz, who was 20, was murdered on the orders of her family in a so-called “honor killing” after she left her husband and started a new relationship. Her new partner, Rahmat Sulemani, was so devastated that he later committed suicide.

Payzee's father, uncle and others were imprisoned in this gruesome case.

The image of her older sister's body has haunted Payzee ever since. But it also pushed this remarkable young woman to do something extraordinary.

Payzee has spent the past six years campaigning to ban child marriage and other honor-based abuses, using her own story.

It is largely thanks to her that on April 26, 2022, the legal age limit for marriage was increased from 16 to 18 years. No marriage can now take place under the age of 18 and no child can be brought into or out of Britain to be married. .

But Payzee's campaign isn't over yet. She wants all marriages to be officially registered so that women from migrant communities also have access to divorce courts. “If their wedding is only a religious ceremony, they are not legally married and therefore have fewer rights to divorce,” explains Payzee, who lives in London with her husband and their two-year-old son.

Speaking about the changes in the law, she added: “I am beyond proud. And my sister played a big role in this. What she suffered started with a child marriage.”

Banaz (pictured), who was twenty, had been murdered on the orders of her family in a so-called 'honor killing'.

Payzee's parents are Iraqi Kurds who fled Saddam Hussein's regime and arrived in London with Payzee, then 11, Banaz, their three other daughters and a son.

The girls had already undergone female genital mutilation, an abusive practice that is widespread abroad but illegal in Britain.

When Payzee was 15, her older sister Bekhal fled their home in Mitcham, Surrey, and spent time in foster care.

“It was seen as a shame on the family,” Payzee said. “So Banaz and I were used to bringing back 'respect' – and that meant getting married off quickly.”

Banaz married first and, after meeting her 28-year-old husband just three times, moved to the West Midlands. She was seventeen. Her family described the older man as 'the David Beckham of husbands', but in reality he was violent and cruel.

She reported him to the police many times, accusing him of rape and regular assault. “We spoke regularly, so I knew she was unhappy, but I was helpless,” Payzee says. 'Meanwhile my father told me that he had found a husband for me. He was tall and bald and almost twice my age.

'I remember the first time I was in this room with him. I was told not to talk or make eye contact. I had to be shy, like a good girl. Then I was taken to the shops to buy clothes and jewellery [for the wedding].

'I was 16. All my friends met in the park and talked about fashion and music. Within a few weeks we were married. I'd never been away overnight before, but here I had to pack all my stuff and live with this complete stranger.”

After two and a half years, Banaz left her husband, which angered her family. She returned to their home and fell in love with Rahmat Sulemani, a family friend.

In January 2006, Rahmat reported Banaz missing.

“I hadn't heard from her in a long time, but it never occurred to me that she had been murdered,” Payzee said. 'When my father was arrested, I still couldn't process it. I sat in the courtroom completely shocked.'

A terrified Banaz had told police four times that her life was in danger and begged for help. They didn't believe her. One officer dismissed her as “manipulative.”

It emerged that she had been raped and tortured in her family's home in December 2005 on the orders of her father and uncle, before being strangled with a ligature.

Her body was put in a suitcase and taken to a house in Birmingham, where it was buried in the garden, where it was discovered by police three months later. Meanwhile, Payzee fought to leave her marriage. “My husband was abusive,” she says. 'What happened to Banaz made me determined to escape. My husband agreed as long as I signed a paper stating that I had been unfaithful, which was not true. I found a lawyer and got divorced in May 2006. My parents were strongly against that.'

Within a month, Payzee divorced, buried her sister and turned 18. She moved between flat stocks and began a degree in psychology at London's Metropolitan University, but dropped out before completing it. She began to bury her pain in drink and drugs.

“It was 10 years of total self-destruction,” she says. 'I refused to talk about it. Even my best friends didn't know my story.'

It is largely thanks to Payzee that the legal age limit for marriage was increased from 16 to 18 on April 26, 2022

Still, Payzee built a career in fashion, starting in sales at Alexander McQueen.

In 2016, ten years after Banaz's death, Payzee finally confronted her past.

“I was talking to my partner,” she says. “And I blurted out the whole story. I thought he was going to leave. But he assured me that I was the victim. It wasn't my fault. So I gradually started telling close friends. Their response was always friendly.”

In 2018, Payzee was at the gym when an item came on the news. “A man had stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death after his wife left him,” she said. 'I was rooted to the spot. Like my sister, this young woman knew she was in danger and had filed numerous complaints with the police. Yet she was ultimately murdered in a gruesome manner.

'My sister had been dead for twelve years. How can this still happen? A blazing fire had been lit. I knew I had to do something.'

Payzee contacted the Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organization (IKWRO). The charity campaigns for Iranian, Kurdish, North African and Afghan women's rights had been a huge support during Banaz's trial. “I offered to do what I could,” she says.

IKWRO campaigned for a bill to ban all forms of child marriage, and Payzee realized she had found her cause. In 2020 she became a campaigner there.

“Every time I spoke, at first it was like a deep wound was opening,” she says. 'But I couldn't give it up. I have accepted every invitation to tell my story.'

Getting the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill through the House of Commons and House of Lords was exhausting, especially after Payzee became pregnant in 2021.

“Baroness Sugg dedicated the bill to me, another survivor and my sister during a final debate in the House of Lords before it became law. I could have cried for joy,” Payzee said.

'Nothing can bring Banaz back. But so much has been done in her memory. And I will never stop campaigning for all women. Everyone can bring change. You just have to believe in it and never give up.'

Top lawyer warns women of ‘scary’ dangers of heading to Middle East to marry rich men for a lifestyle of luxury – because they might have to live with up to three other wives and ‘are literally being dumped on the street’

British wives boasting of luxury new lives funded by millionaire husbands in Dubai have been warned they risk being dumped homeless on the streets at any moment.

Experts have revealed a surge in complaints from not only women but also men betrayed and dumped by wealthy partners after upping sticks for the Middle East.

The alert comes amid a TikTok and Instagram trend of UK women sharing footage of spending sprees in the United Arab Emirates after wedding wealthy husbands.

It comes as Mail Online reported on an influx of expats pampered by rich partners, enjoying days filled with shopping trips, extravagant meals and property upgrades.

Yet there is a ‘dark side’ to Dubai that many women only discover too late, according to Manchester-based Amaras International Lawyers’ Samara Iqbal.

Specialist lawyer Samara Iqbal has told Mail Online of a surge in cases from both men and women concerned about their treatment after falling for millionaire partners

She told of being inundated with calls for help from not only women but also men wanting protection amid fears they have been – or could be – exploited by a partner promising an alluring new lifestyle in the Middle East.

And she has issued a hitlist of warning signs for anyone feeling tempted – while also highlighting a new civil court in neighbouring Abu Dhabi which could offer more help to women stranded overseas and yet which remains little-known to many.

Ms Iqbal’s firm is based in Manchester but a surge in cases has seen new branches open in Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

She too is a watcher of TikTok videos promoting what seem to be aspirational lives in the Middle East – but is now warning women to beware of hidden dangers.

She outlined how many women find out only too late their husband might have as many as three other wives – and that while handing over upmarket clothes, cards and credit cards, everything remains documented in only his name.

Ms Iqbal told Mail Online: ‘We’ve got lots of British women who are attracted by these promises of a luxurious lifestyle, even though their own families aren’t happy about it – and not realising he can cut her off at any moment.

‘People are literally being dumped on the street. It looks nice, but there’s a dark side to Dubai – it can be very scary out there.’

Her firm is increasingly being approached for advice on potential pre-nuptial and also post-nuptial agreements as more and more women feel tempted by marriages to someone they’ve met here before moving together overseas.

She said: ‘We often deal with cases more and more on a daily basis in which lots of women have married and moved out to the UAE only to be left stranded without any source of money and essentially being “cut off” by their rich partners.

‘While these partners may be providing and funding their luxurious lifestyles – cars, designer items, expensive jewellery, holidays, meals out – none of this actually belongs to these women and there is nothing in their name. It’s all in their partners name.

‘Women are thrown out of marital homes as they do not belong to them – credit cards cut off and they have no recourse to any of the possessions, houses, companies and assets the partner has solely in his own name.

‘These assets come under Sharia law and belongs to the person whose name its registered to and she would not be entitled to any of it if her name is not registered.’

Advice for British wives marrying and moving to the Middle East

Manchester-based lawyer Samara Iqbal has suggested potential brides moving abroad put these in place:

1. A pre- or post-nuptial agreement which can be done in the UK or filed with the Abu Dhabi Civil Court

2. A credit card/bank account in her own name with some emergency funds and money should she be ‘cut off’ from her partner’s bank accounts

3. A visa in her own name – as this could also be cancelled and she would need to leave within 30 days if she cannot arrange a visa for herself

4. An agreement regarding the custody of any child/children – possibly in the pre-/post-nuptial agreement

5. Ideally a car and some accommodation under her own name, should she find herself thrown out of the marital home

Potential husbands might swoop in during university days together, drinking and nightclubbing in a way they would no longer do when back in the UAE, she suggests.

Women are not the only ones at risk, according to Ms Iqbal – she described being asked for advice by men serenaded by sheikhs in London and promised a better life abroad but worried they could be abandoned or blackmailed over their sexuality.

In the past year a new civil court in Abu Dhabi has been opened which does recognise British civil orders and tends to look more favourably on UK wives wanting a settlement or at least joint custody of any children.

Yet too many people still remain unaware it exists, Ms Iqbal said.

She warned: ‘I see so many girls who say they’re going overseas with a rich prince, thinking nothing can now go wrong – more and more British women are doing so.

‘But if he wants to suddenly cut her off, he can do – he can literally throw her on the streets.

‘We’re seeing more and more people who have married and moved out to the Middle East, thinking they’ve being given a luxury lifestyle, but it only lasts so long – and the courts will go against her.’

The concerns come amid many social media influencers such as Sussex-raised Soudi Al Nadak showcasing their lavish lifestyles in Dubai funded by millionaire partners after quitting the UK.

Housewife Soudi, 26 and originally from Horsham in West Sussex, shared a Tiktok video of being treated at a UAE luxury mall by husband Jamal Al Nadak, 32.

The couple met when both studying at university in Dubai seven years ago.

Her TikTok account, followed by 1.2million people, provides regular updates celebrating their glittering property and elite-level shopping sprees.

Other UK influencers sharing online their Middle East experiences include British-Iranian fashion fan Safa Siddiqui, who sold real estate in London but now lives in Dubai with affluent husband Fahad Siddiqui.

The couple starred in recent Netflix reality TV show Dubai Bling, in which she told of loving ‘the smell of luxury’, adding: ‘I like to aim high and then go above that.’

She was also seen on-screen demanding her husband buy a new home with larger storage space for her clothes.

Ms Iqbal told of regularly seeing such accounts dominate her TikTok viewing too – yet she wants to issue caution for people swept up and potentially tempted to pursue a similar mission.

She said: ‘It might seem like a lovely life, with all these designer handbags and cars, but everything will invariably be registered under the husband’s name.

‘And if the relationship ends, the wife might struggle to get hold of any of her belongings – her husband could even get her deported if he wanted to, simply accusing her of cheating without any truth to it.’

She feels some clients are feeling more cautious, even as they embark on what they see as a new adventure – while others come for belated help.

Ms Iqbal said: ‘We’re doing a lot of pre-nuptial deals but also plenty of post-nuptials too – splits can get nasty.

Another prominent Middle East personality is Caroline Stanbury, whose second husband Sergio Carrallo previously played football for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

She grew up in Dorset, daughter of venture capitalist Anthony Stanbury and fashion designer Elizabeth Stanbury, before her venture to the UAE where she featured in 2022 TV series The Real Housewives Of Dubai.

She was linked in the past Prince Andrew and actor Hugh Grant, though has denied any romantic involvement with either.

She shares children Aaron, Zac, and Yasmine with first husband, Turkish financier Cem Habib, having moved to Dubai in 2016 before separating three years later.

Caroline, now 47, started dating Carrallo in 2020 before marrying in Mauritius in November the following year ahead of a follow-up ceremony in Dubai.

She has celebrated the expat life in Dubai for allowing people to enjoy their riches, in contrast to Britain where she says ‘billionaires dress in Marks & Spencer’.

Caroline told BBC2 documentary series Inside Dubai in 2022: ‘In Britain we’re taught that if you have money you shouldn’t show it.

‘You’re meant to turn your lights off at 7pm and share a bath with your family – here you turn all your lights on and you put all your jewellery on at once.

‘Any British billionaire is dressed in Marks & Spencer, that’s just what we do – here, they wear Dolce & Gabbana and so do their children.

‘They’re doing something right the rest of the world hasn’t cottoned on to.’
