Reddit on Wednesday has priced its shares at $34 for its IPO, at the high end of expectations, as a sign of investor demand for growing technology companies.

The San Francisco-based social media company had estimated its shares would cost between $31 and $34. The $34 price raised Reddit’s value to $6.4 billion, lower than the $10 billion valuation it fetched during a private fundraising round in 2021. The company raised $748 million in the offering.

The shares will begin trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RDDT.

The pricing was a positive signal for startups and venture capitalists, who were closely watching Reddit’s offering as a test for private tech companies looking to brave the public markets. Activity has been sluggish, with just over 100 companies going public in the United States last year, about a quarter of the number that went public in 2021, according to data compiled by the exchange-traded Renaissance Capital manages funds that focus on IPOs.

“There was some concern about technology demand heading into 2024,” said Matt Kennedy, senior strategist at Renaissance Capital. But Reddit’s pricing, in addition to a successful first day of trading on Wednesday for artificial intelligence company Astera Labs, was a “good sign for the rest of the pipeline,” he added.

Shares of one of last year’s hottest tech companies — Instacart, the grocery delivery company — are up about 58 percent this year. Shares of Arm, a chip designer that also went public last year, have risen about 90 percent in the same period.

The offering is a boon for Reddit’s largest shareholders. They include a co-founder, Steve Huffman, who owns a 3.3 percent stake; Advance Magazine Publishers, affiliated with Condé Nast’s parent company; and a part of Tencent, the Chinese internet giant, called Tencent Cloud Europe. Alexis Ohanian, the other co-founder, was not listed as a principal shareholder in Reddit’s filings.

Reddit’s road to the public markets has been a long one. Founded in 2005, the company was an early form of social network, growing up when Facebook was still nascent and MySpace was at its peak.

Reddit relied on old-style message boards, which were largely text-based, divided into topics and browsed by pseudonymous commenters. The company was sold to Condé Nast for $10 million in 2006 and was subsequently spun off after years of stagnation under former management.

For years, Reddit’s revenue was thin. Various forms of monetization were experimented with, including a community-based donation economy that some enjoyed, but which did not produce robust results. After a series of community uprisings and a revolving door of CEOs, by 2015 Reddit had more than 100 million users but only $12 million in annual revenue. That year, Mr. Huffman, who had left in 2006, returned to lead the company.

In the years since, Reddit has built up its advertising business, which now accounts for the vast majority of the company’s revenue. Revenue last year was $804 million, up about 21 percent from a year earlier. The net loss was $90 million, compared to a loss of $158 million the year before.

Reddit has also built a data licensing business, selling information about its users’ discussions and trends on the site to hedge funds and Wall Street firms, which use the information to gain an edge in trading.

More recently, Reddit has tapped into its vast trove of conversational data to market itself as a repository for training large language models, which help artificially intelligent computers learn speech skills that are more human-like. The company expects to earn more than $200 million over the next three years from these types of deals it has made with Google and others.

Perhaps Reddit’s biggest obstacle to a smooth IPO is its users. The thousands of forums, or “subreddits,” that make up the site are largely overseen by a volunteer group of moderators. Some have resisted the idea of Reddit being a publicly traded company, fearing that market forces and quarterly shareholder demands would erode some of the features that made the site so attractive to them.

Mr. Huffman has said that the fear of going public is part of a normal “maturation process.”

“We have the same love for Reddit — and the same fear of losing Reddit — as our community,” he told The New York Times last year.

Among the investment banks leading Reddit’s offering were Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

It turns out that even speaking kindly to yourself for less than a minute a day can improve your mental health.

Researchers at the University of California Berkeley recruited more than 100 people to test whether self-compassionate touch, which involves placing your hands on your chest, could improve mental health.

This also included repeating statements such as “How can I be a friend to myself right now” to banish fear and self-doubt.

Eli Susman, author of the study, described the exercise as “a habit of being a caring friend to yourself when you think about moments that cause you to be hard on yourself.”

One group of participants was asked to practice the exercises for at least 20 seconds every day for a month.

The results showed that those who did had greater self-compassion, emotional well-being and less stress than those who did not.

The researchers said their “findings are the first to our knowledge to show that daily self-compassion touch can increase self-compassion.”

The researchers found that those who practiced positive affirmations daily had greater self-compassion, emotional well-being, and less stress than those who did not.

The study involved 135 UC Berkeley students over the age of 18. The average age of participants was 21 years and 69 percent of students were female.

The “micropractices” were intended to be easy and an alternative to current self-compassion therapies, which can be time-intensive – ranging from one to 20 hours of learning the technique and then another 2.5 to 40 hours of practice.

Susman said Fox News digital the students were given the following instructions: ‘You are invited to close your eyes.

“You should think of a recent mistake, a failure, or something about yourself that has been bothering you lately or making you feel unworthy, unloved, or not enough.

“And notice what arises in your body as you bring this to mind… sending kindness and warmth to yourself by bringing one hand to your stomach and the other to your chest with the energy of giving yourself a hug. .. allow yourself to embrace what arises in your body.

‘You are invited to ask yourself, “How can I be a friend to myself right now?”… and when you are ready, you can open your eyes.’

The team found that those who practiced positive affirmations daily had greater self-compassion, emotional well-being, and less stress than those who did not.

And mental health improved even more as participants spoke and touched more often with self-compassion.

Evidence has accumulated that high self-compassion is associated with multiple positive outcomes, including better mood and less stress, the study said.

However, the California researchers said they believe their latest findings show that daily self-compassion can also increase self-compassion.

The researchers acknowledged the study’s limitations, including the fact that the team didn’t tell people how often they should do the affirmations above the minimum.

Furthermore, the study had a small sample size and consisted only of students.

“The effects depended on practice: those who didn’t practice often didn’t improve,” Susman said.

He noted that additional research is needed among more varied populations and that these “micro practices” should not replace mental health care such as therapy and medication for those who need it.

The research was published in the April 2024 edition Behavioral research and therapy.

Marie Helvin has revealed her secret to being body positive at 71 after her latest lingerie campaign.

The supermodel was recently announced as the new face of Bluebella lingerie’s campaign as she set pulses racing during the sexy shoot.

Speaking about how she achieves her toned physique, the American star appeared on Loose Women on Monday, where she spoke candidly about how she stays confident about her body.

She said: ‘It’s my job so I have to be confident, I have no choice. When I’m not doing the work I’m not doing, I support myself this way.

‘For me, modeling lingerie is the same as modeling swimwear, so it doesn’t phase me at all.’

Revealing how she stays in such incredible shape, Marie explained: ‘Honestly, there are certain tricks I do as a model and the main one is that I cut out all sugar 10 days before the shoot.

‘I have a terrible sweet tooth so no more Kit Kats or Mars Bars for 10 days and it’s incredible how your skin tightens up a bit. It’s good for the camera.’

Host Ruth Langsford asked the star: “Do you like being seen as an inspirational woman?” as Marie replied that she doesn’t see herself as such.

‘No, but I like women to look at it and think, ‘oh, she looks good, I can look good too’, because what I do is achievable for everyone.

‘It just takes discipline. That’s really true, working in the gym has to be regular, you have to do it constantly. I’m really looking forward to it because I think I’m getting high on the endorphins.”

Marie also gave an update on her health after being diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, just before her 70th birthday.

Speaking about her diagnosis, Marie explained that the lump seemed to appear out of nowhere.

She explained, “I was always checking myself, and it seemed like it came out of nowhere. One week he wasn’t there and the next week he was there.

‘They caught it early, it was stage 1, but I still had to have a mastectomy, but they were able to save my skin and my nipple, so they removed everything behind that and replaced it with an implant.’

While Marie has now made the all clear, she explained that she has been put on a five-year treatment plan, which is also taking its toll.

‘I have everything clear, but now I am struggling with my treatment, I have a treatment that will last 5 years and I have just finished my first year.

‘The three drugs they use here mimic the symptoms of menopause. So it’s like I’m going through menopause again.

‘I sleep the way I want, I can’t sleep, I wake up with night sweats.’

About her breast cancer diagnosis, Marie said in an interview with the Daily Mail in December 2022: ‘I had a vision, an idea of myself, I think, about how fit and healthy I was.’

‘As a model, my body was my instrument and I always took care of it. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I exercise every day, so I guess that made me think that something like that couldn’t happen to me because I didn’t fit the profile.

‘Now I know what a load of nonsense that is. It made me realize that appearances can be deceiving.’

‘Before the operation I decided to be strong. “I knew I had to get myself in the best shape possible to get through it,” she said.

‘But now sometimes I just sit in bed and cry for no reason. Even after everything, there’s a part of me that can’t believe it happened. No one can explain to me why that was the case. It’s just one of those things.’

The King spent last night at home in London after beginning out-patient cancer treatment – as family and friends revealed that the monarch remains ‘hugely positive’ following his shock diagnosis.

Buckingham Palace dramatically revealed yesterday that doctors had discovered an unspecified form of cancer during the King’s treatment for a benign prostate condition.

Charles, 75, arrived in London yesterday morning from his Sandringham estate with his wife Queen Camilla to start out-patient treatment.

He then spent the evening at home in the capital, most likely at Clarence House, Sky News reports.

It comes as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said this morning that he was ‘shocked and sad’ to hear about the King’s cancer diagnosis but was ‘thankful’ it had been caught early.

Family and friends were said to be amazed by the King’s determination to carry on with ‘business as usual’. It is understood his condition has been caught very early and the prognosis is good. A family friend said: ‘He and his doctors are very, very positive.’

Charles has been making frequent Sunday night trips in recent months to Windsor Castle to spend time with Prince William, The Sun reported, with the father and son becoming closer.

The King informed close family by phone about his diagnosis, including estranged son Harry who will fly back from his home in California to see his father.

It is not known where the Duke of Sussex will stay when he visits the UK. Harry needs prior permission from Buckingham Palace to stay on a royal estate.

He returned the keys to Frogmore Cottage last June when the prince and his wife Meghan Markle vacated the property. His request to stay at Windsor Castle was knocked back by the Palace when he last visited the UK in September and Harry ended up staying in a hotel.

It will be the first time the pair have spent any significant time together in more than 18 months. Royal watchers were asking whether it might herald a thaw in relations.

Queen Camilla will be at her husband’s side throughout but has insisted on continuing with her public engagements. Other members of the Royal Family will be stepping up to stand in for the sovereign, including the Prince of Wales, who will return to duties tomorrow after his own wife’s medical issues.

While cancelling all his public engagements, Charles is insisting on carrying on with his ‘red boxes’ of paperwork and he may even conduct a small number of face-to-face private meetings.

The Mail has learnt that the King has known about his diagnosis since early last week, insisting on going to church in Norfolk on Sunday and waving warmly to well-wishers.

Camilla also stoically insisted on opening a new Maggie’s cancer care unit in London on Wednesday in the knowledge that her husband was about to have treatment.

She carefully told well-wishers at the Royal Free Hospital that he was ‘getting on, doing his best’. A source said: ‘Full credit to her. She has been marvellous.’

In a statement Buckingham Palace said: ‘During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

‘His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual.

‘The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.

‘He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world affected by cancer.’

Royal aides said they were carefully balancing the King’s right to privacy at a difficult and sensitive time with his role as head of state. But he hopes that by sharing the news that it will enable accurate reporting of his condition and prevent speculation on an issue that affects so many other families.

No further details of which cancer he has been diagnosed with are being shared, aside from emphasising it is not prostate cancer, which is the biggest cancer killer of men in the UK each year. It is being stressed it was found only when the king had treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.

He was admitted for surgery on January 26 and remained in the private London Clinic in central London for three days.

It was during this intervention that a ‘separate cause for concern’ was noted and subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer.

Details of his treatment are not being disclosed at this stage. A royal aide said: ‘No further details are being shared at this stage, but His Majesty is receiving expert care and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.’

It is not known how long he will be away from public-facing duties. But a source explained: ‘The King has elected to make his diagnosis public once the schedule of treatment had begun, noting that as Prince of Wales he was patron of a number of cancer-related charities.

‘In this capacity, His Majesty has often spoken publicly in support of cancer patients, their loved ones and the wonderful health professionals who help care for them.

‘His Majesty is grateful to his medical team for their expert care and swift intervention, is wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.’

A family friend said Charles was being ‘hugely positive’, adding: ‘From what I know he is up and about as usual and he is so positive that you wouldn’t know he even had a condition. Luckily it has, as far as anyone can tell, been caught very early.

‘In terms of the treatment he is getting, the treatment for all cancers have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. The specialist ones they conduct now are incredibly sophisticated. He and his doctors are very, very positive.

‘I think it is something he may share more on in the future if he wants to but for the moment he wants to concentrate on his treatment and the work in hand.’

Another family source insisted that he was not cancelling public engagements because of his condition or any physical frailty. They said it was simply to ‘minimise in person contact’ because of the medical risks to him while undergoing treatment.

‘Obviously it is a shock but he is really doing very well,’ they added.

A royal aide said that ‘regrettably’ a number of public engagements would have to be rearranged or postponed.

‘His Majesty would like to apologise to all those who may be disappointed or inconvenienced as a consequence,’ they added.

However it is anticipated the King will continue with his weekly audiences with the Prime Minister. Suitable arrangements will be made if doctors advise him this should not be done in person.

Rishi Sunak, who was informed of the King’s diagnosis before it was made public, said this morning that he was ‘shocked and sad’ to hear about the King’s cancer diagnosis but ‘thankfully this has been caught early’.

Mr Sunak said that everyone would be ‘hoping and praying’ for Charles to have a speedy recovery, and said that he was in ‘regular contact’ with the monarch.

On BBC Radio 5 Live this morning, the PM added: ‘Thankfully this has been caught early and now everyone will be wishing that he gets the treatment he needs and makes a full recovery. That’s what we’re all hoping and praying for.

‘I’m of course in regular contact with him and will continue to communicate with him as normal.’

Mr Sunak continued: ‘I’m in regular contact with the King and that will of course continue as normal and we’ll crack on with everything. He’ll be in our thoughts and prayers.

‘Many families around the country listening to this will be touched by the same thing and they know what it means for everyone. We’ll be willing him on and hopefully he can get through this as quick as possible.’

When pressed on whether he had spoken to Charles since his diagnosis, Mr Sunak reiterated: ‘I’m in regular contact with him and will continue to be do so.’

And when asked whether face to face meetings would continue with the monarch, he said: ‘I’m in regular contact as I always am and that will absolutely continue.’

Charles hopes to continue to undertake Privy Council meetings, but details have yet to be worked out.

Camilla will continue to have a full programme of public duties and the Mail understands that Princess Anne will carry out investitures.

Prince William hasn’t seen his father yet but has been in contact with him and is about to pick up public engagements once again following his wife’s lengthy hospital stay and recuperation for what has been described only as ‘abdominal surgery’.

Palace aides have at been pains to stress that the King will not need to appoint counsellors of state to step in.

World statesmen and religious leaders sent their love and support to the King and the Royal Family at this difficult time as crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace to send best wishes to His Majesty.

US President Joe Biden said last night that he is ‘concerned’ about the King and plans to call him later. He told reporters: ‘I’m concerned about him. Just heard about his diagnosis. I’ll be talking to him, God willing’.

He later tweeted: ‘Navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship takes hope and absolute courage. Jill and I join the people of the United Kingdom in praying that His Majesty experiences a swift and full recovery’.

Former President Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee in November US elections, wrote on his Truth Social network that the king was ‘a wonderful man’ and that ‘we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery’.

Cardinal Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, said: ‘I am saddened to learn that King Charles is now facing a time of treatment for cancer. On behalf of the entire Catholic Community in England and Wales, I offer His Majesty our warmest wishes and assurance of steadfast prayers for his full and speedy recovery. God bless the King’.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has yet to comment having just returned from Kyiv.

Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, said: ‘I am saddened to have heard about His Majesty The King’s diagnosis. I know that the Jewish communities of Great Britain and the Commonwealth will join me in wishing him a Refuah Sheleima – a complete and swift recovery’.

As the King’s cancer shocked Britain, the Commonwealth and the world, it also emerged:

The world is wishing the King well after he revealed his cancer.

The King also apologised for having to postpone his upcoming engagements.

A spokesman added: ‘Regrettably, a number of the King’s forthcoming public engagements will have to be rearranged or postponed.

‘His Majesty would like to apologise to all those who may be disappointed or inconvenienced as a consequence.’

Announcing that Prince Harry will come and see his father, a source close to the Duke said: ‘The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis.

‘He will be traveling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days.’

All of the King’s siblings, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Duke of Edinburgh were told personally by Charles, royal aides said.

The recent diagnosis means the King is unlikely to be at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on March 11, which is usually attended by senior members of the royal family.

It is understood he will continue to receive red boxes and process state documents during treatment and there are no plans to appoint Counsellors of State.

It is understood details of the King’s diary are still being worked on and it is not yet known when a full programme of engagements will begin.

The palace said the Queen will continue with a full programme of public duties.

Other working members of the royal family could undertake additional duties on behalf of the King but it is understood planning for future state visits will continue where possible.

Kensington Palace confirms the Prince of Wales is returning to official duties this week, beginning with an investiture.

6pm – Buckingham Palace announces the King has a form of cancer – but not prostate cancer – and has started treatment as an outpatient.

He will not carry out public-facing duties, but will carry on with behind the scenes state business and official papers.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also offered his best wishes.

He tweeted: ‘I, like Canadians across the country and people around the world, am thinking of His Majesty King Charles III as he undergoes treatment for cancer.

‘We’re sending him our very best wishes – and hoping for a fast and full recovery.’

Canada is one of the 14 Commonwealth realms where the King is head of state.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer tweeted: ‘On behalf of the Labour Party, I wish His Majesty all the very best for his recovery.

‘We look forward to seeing him back to swift full health.’

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle told MPs: ‘I know the whole House will wish to join me in expressing our sympathies with His Majesty the King following the news announcement this evening.

‘Our thoughts are, of course, with His Majesty and his family, and we’d all wish to send him our very best wishes for the successful treatment and a speedy recovery following tonight’s news.’

The diagnosis is also likely to be professionally devastating for Charles, who was the longest-serving heir to the throne in British history before he became King on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on September 8 2022.

Since then he has hit the ground running with three state visits overseas, hosting two incoming state visits to the UK and undertaking hundreds of public engagements each year, taking on a punishing official workload well into his 70s.

Aides have said he has relished the challenge and is hugely enjoying his royal role.

The King’s diagnosis will pose serious questions for the working of the monarchy, with fewer working members of the royal family and the Princess of Wales out of action due to what has only been described as ‘abdominal surgery’ until after Easter.

The Prince of Wales, who is heir to the throne, had cleared his diary to be by his wife’s side and keep life as normal as possible for their three children.

Kensington Palace announced yesterday, however, that he would resume public duties this week by conducting an investiture on Wednesday at Windsor Castle, followed by a gala fundraising event for the London Air Ambulance in the evening.

While Queen Elizabeth suffered episodic periods of ill-health over the years and underwent surgery on a number of occasions, including on her knee and cataracts, there was no major health crisis of this magnitude until the very last months of her historic 70-year reign.

That, however, would have a serious knock-on effect on the family life of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

They moved to Windsor 18-months ago in order to allow their children to enjoy a more carefree childhood, outside of the royal bubble, until absolutely necessary.

Prince George, ten, who is second in line to the throne, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis all attend a local school, Lambrook, and have settled in well at their new home, Adelaide Cottage.

William and Kate’s team are still based at Kensington Palace in London, their official residence, and travel up to Windsor for meetings.

Questions will inevitably be asked how practicable it will be for them to do so now.

The King has largely enjoyed very good health throughout his life, apart from suffering from a cripplingly bad back.

The first sign that anything was amiss with his health came on January 17 when Buckingham Palace made a surprise announcement that the King had ‘sought treatment’ for an enlarged prostate.

The palace added that His Majesty’s condition was ‘benign’ and that he would attend hospital the following week for a corrective procedure.

They said he was personally keen to share details of his diagnosis to encourage other men who may be experiencing symptoms to get themselves check.

The NHS subsequently reported an encouraging spike in people seeking more information on their website.

His Majesty, who was in Scotland at the time, travelled back down to Sandringham afterwards and then on to London the night before his surgery.

He was admitted to The London Clinic in Marylebone, central London, on January 26 with his wife, Queen Camilla, by his side.

Buckingham Palace said he wanted to thank everyone for their good wishes and was delighted to learn that his diagnosis was having a positive impact on public health awareness.

He was finally released on Monday last week after three nights in hospital and said to be ‘doing well’.

He initially resided at Clarence House, his London residence, in order to be close to his doctors, before returning to Sandringham with his wife.

Queen Camilla has continued to undertake public engagements, telling members of the l public that her husband was ‘doing fine’ and looking forwards to getting back to work.

One in every three men over the age of 50 will have symptoms of an enlarged prostate, which include needing to visit the toilet more frequently, with more urgency, and difficulty emptying the bladder.

An enlarged prostate, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, does not usually pose a serious threat to health, and it is not cancer.

But patients may need to have several tests for the condition to rule out the possibility they have another illness with similar symptoms, such as prostate cancer.

Surgery is usually only recommended for moderate to severe symptoms that have not responded to medicine.

Following yesterday’s news, former Prime Minister and Mail columnist Boris Johnson wrote on X: ‘The whole country will be rooting for the King today. Best wishes to Charles III for a full and speedy recovery.’

Liz Truss, Mr Sunak’s short-lived predecessor as PM, said: ‘Sending every best wish to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family as he undergoes his treatment for cancer. He will be in our thoughts and prayers. God Save The King!’

Vedant Patel, a spokesman for the US State Department, said it is ‘incredibly sad news’ and added: ‘I’m very sorry for the King and his family’.

He told a briefing of reporters that the Biden administration’s thoughts are with the King and the Royal Family.

The King was last night reported to be ‘hugely positive’ following shock news that he has cancer.

Family and friends were said to be amazed by his determination to carry on with ‘business as usual’. It is understood his condition has been caught very early and the prognosis is good.

Charles has been making frequent Sunday night trips in recent months to Windsor Castle to spend time with Prince William, The Sun reported, with the father and son becoming closer.

Buckingham Palace dramatically revealed that doctors had discovered an unspecified form of cancer during treatment for a benign prostate condition.

Charles informed close family by phone, including estranged son Harry who will fly back from his home in California to see his father.

It is not known where the Duke of Sussex will stay with him being ‘homeless’ when he visits the UK, reported the Daily Telegraph, and needing permission from Buckingham Palace to stay on a royal estate.

Harry returned the keys to Frogmore Cottage last June when the prince and his wife Meghan Markle vacated the property. His request to stay at Windsor Castle was knocked back by the Palace when he last visited the UK in September and Harry ended up staying in a hotel.

It will be the first time the pair have spent any significant time together in more than 18 months. Royal watchers were asking whether it might herald a thaw in relations.

Charles arrived in London yesterday morning from his Sandringham estate with his wife Camilla to start out-patient treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

She will be at her husband’s side throughout but has insisted on continuing with her public engagements.

Kate Middleton is recovering at home from abdominal surgery following a two-week stay at private hospital The London Clinic

Rishi Sunak, who was informed of the King’s diagnosis before it was made public, said last night that he wished him a ‘full and speedy recovery’.

People stand outside Buckingham Palace after it was announced King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer

KING’S CANCER DIAGNOSIS: THE ROYAL FAMILY’S RECENT HEALTH SCARES

The King’s cancer diagnosis is the latest shock health news to hit the royal family.

– Tuesday January 16

Kate, 42, is secretly admitted to the London Clinic and undergoes abdominal surgery.

– Wednesday January 17

2pm – Kensington Palace announces the princess’ operation and says she will remain in the private hospital for 10-14 days.

She is not expected to return to duties until after Easter, taking up to three months to recover.

The Prince of Wales steps back from his official duties temporarily to care of his wife and children.

The exact nature of Kate’s condition is kept private, but it is not cancerous and Kensington Palace says the planned procedure was successful.

– Monday January 22

The Queen tells 86-year-old well-wisher Jessie Jackson that the King is ‘fine’, and thanks her for asking, while she carries out engagements in Swindon.

– Monday February 5

Last Tuesday she told well-wishers he was ‘getting on’ and ‘doing his best’, adding: ‘Thank goodness!’

Following today’s news, former Prime Minister and Mail columnist Boris Johnson wrote on X: ‘The whole country will be rooting for the King today.

Mark Drakeford, the First Minister of Wales, wished the King a ‘full and swift recovery’ following his cancer diagnosis.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said she was praying for the King.

‘I would like to wish His Majesty, King Charles all the the very best for his treatment,’ she said.

‘I, like many people throughout Northern Ireland, will keep him and his family in my prayers.’

Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams said: ‘This is bound to be a profoundly unsettling piece of news at a time when symbols of stability and dependability are so vital for our well-being.

‘In addition to the deep shared concern for King Charles at a personal level, we may well reflect on the importance of such symbols in giving us a focus for our life together as a family of national communities in the UK, a life together that goes beyond partisan rhetoric and mutual suspicion.’

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis said: ‘I am saddened to have heard about His Majesty The King’s diagnosis.

‘I know that the Jewish communities of Great Britain and the Commonwealth will join me in wishing him a Refuah Sheleima – a complete and swift recovery.’

Health and Social Care Secretary Victoria Atkins wrote on X: ‘My thoughts are with King Charles and the whole Royal Family.

‘His decision to share his diagnosis to assist public understanding for all those affected by cancer is commendable.

‘Wishing His Majesty the very best and look forward to seeing him resume his public duties.’

Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting, who received treatment for kidney cancer in 2021, said: ‘One in two of us will develop cancer during our lives, but millions more are affected when someone they love is diagnosed with cancer.

‘On behalf of the entire Catholic Community in England and Wales, I offer His Majesty our warmest wishes and assurance of steadfast prayers for his full and speedy recovery. God bless the King.’

A statement from Macmillan Cancer Support said everyone at the charity was sending their best wishes.

The King has been a long-standing supporter of Macmillan, becoming patron of the charity in 1997.

A WOMAN has revealed the bizarre symptom she continues to have weeks after testing positive for Covid.

Along with long-term symptoms of fatigue and anxiety, the former journalist cannot slow her heart rate even when she sleeps.

The best way to be protected against Covid-19 is to get a booster shot.

Covid booster jabs protect against the latest Omicron variant and offer the best chance of weathering the pandemic, health officials have repeatedly said.

Charlotte wrote on Twitter: “Since Covid 3.5 weeks ago my heart rate has been constantly high.

“My Garmin tells me every day that I've had 'almost no rest moments.'

“I'm reading. I'm meditating. I'm exercising. I'm sleeping. I even made the horrible choice to give up coffee! How long will it take for this to go away.”

Others were quick to say that they too experienced a faster heart rate after a Covid-19 infection, an extremely rare side effect.

One patient wrote: 'I had the same Charlotte.

“I also had Covid about four weeks ago and have had a high heart rate and palpitations ever since.

“Doctor said it should happen in time, but ran more tests to check and be safe.”

Covid patients are known to experience a higher heart rate after an infection.

But this is very rare and likely an immune reaction, rather than damage to the heart itself, the British Heart Foundation told us news.com.

Hyderabad: Yashasvi Jaiswal may have missed a well-deserved hundred against England on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test match on Friday, but the youngster has no regrets as India aim to play positive cricket. In reply to England's first innings total of 246, India were 421/7 when stumps were drawn on the second day. Ravindra Jadeja (81 not out) and Axar Patel (35) not out are at the crease. The hosts are ahead by 175 runs in the first innings.

After starting the day with an unbeaten 76, Jaiswal could only add four runs on Friday before the left-hander struck straight through bowler Joe Root to give England an early breakthrough. Then India lost Shubman Gill before KL Rahul (81) and Shreyas Iyer took the lead (35). KS Bharat also contributed with a knock of 41. At this point, Jadeja and Patel have added 63 runs for the unbroken eighth wicket.

“We always tried to play positive cricket. I'm also trying the same. I want to stay positive and play good shots. I felt that the more runs we accumulate, the better for our team. We aim to take a good lead in the match,” Jaiswal said at the press conference on Friday.

The southpaw admitted it would have been nice to get a hundred but was not a penitent. “Yes, it would have been great if I had scored a hundred, but I think what got me here was my process and mindset,” Jaiswal said, referring to a desire to follow his natural game.

That path may be fraught with danger, but Jaiswal is ready to tread it. “I tried to do my best and sometimes it (playing aggressive cricket) can work well, sometimes it doesn't. I can make a mistake and get out of it, but I try to make sure I learn from my mistakes,” he noted.

Batting has a tough time on this court at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. After the English batsmen, except captain Ben Stokes, failed to perform, the Indians too admitted that playing on this wicket is a bit difficult. “The wicket is turning quite well at the moment. There is some help for the spinners. I thought about making a good contribution to the team,” he added.

With three wickets at hand, the Indians will look to prolong the game as long as possible and extend their lead. Anything around 200 would be difficult for England to chase this wicket against the likes of Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Patel.

  • Charles III: The coronation year received almost 900 complaints for being too positive

A BBC documentary showing the royal family behind the scenes of the king’s coronation has attracted 897 complaints for being ‘overly positive’ about the monarchy.

Charles III: The Coronation Year was broadcast on BBC One on Boxing Day and left almost 900 viewers feeling that the tone was biased in favor of the royal institution.

Of the 2,665 complaints BBC Audience Services received about programs from December 18 to 31, 897 (a third) related to ‘bias in favor of the monarchy’ in the documentary.

The program was the only program to receive more than 100 Phase 1 complaints during the period.

The BBC summarized the complaint on their website, saying: ‘We received complaints from a number of viewers who felt the tone of the program was too positive.’

Of the 2,665 complaints BBC Audience Services received about programs from December 18 to 31, 897 – a third – related to ‘bias in favor of the monarchy’ in the documentary.

The complaints department dismissed the problems people had with the program, calling it a “one-off observational documentary covering a period of historical significance.”

The response said the BBC ‘seeks to reflect a range of views in its news and current affairs coverage of the monarchy’ and has ‘examined the structures and finances surrounding the Royal Family’ in other programmes.

The full response read: ‘Charles III: The Coronation Year is a one-off observational documentary covering a period of historical importance as the King took on new duties and prepared for this country’s first coronation in seventy years.

‘It has unique access and captures personal moments as the King adapts to his new role. Editorial control is retained by the BBC.

‘The BBC seeks to reflect a range of views in its news and current affairs coverage of the monarchy.

‘Earlier in 2023, when Panorama on BBC One documented the coronation, it examined the structures and finances surrounding the Royal Family and conducted a recently commissioned survey on attitudes towards the monarchy.

‘On Radio 4, the Today program had a debate on whether Britain needs a monarchy and The World This Weekend looked at its future.

“Overall, we have explored a range of perspectives on the monarchy, and we will continue to do so.”

The number of complaints means it doesn’t quite make it into the top ten most complained about BBC programs in 2023.

The King’s own coronation in May was in the top ten, receiving 8,421 complaints about comments made by actress Adjoa Andoh who said during the broadcast that the Buckingham Palace balcony was ‘horribly white’.

A smiling King Charles was seen rehearsing for his coronation in a shot from the BBC documentary charting his first year as king.

The moment when His Majesty’s suit can be seen peeking out from under his robes as he sits on the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey was featured in the 90-minute documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year.

The production team was given behind-the-scenes privilege during key moments of Charles and Camilla’s first year in office in and around Buckingham Palace.

It also included an interview with the Princess Royal and a film of the Wales family during rehearsals at the Abbey.

A body positivity influencer has revealed how parents ask her how to ‘save’ their daughters from toxic beauty standards pushed on social media, as she slammed tech companies for doing ‘the bare minimum’ to tackle the issues.

Danae Mercer, 36, originally from California but recently based in Dubai and Italy, went viral for sharing realistic, unedited before and after photos that show how lighting, angles and whether or not you’ve eaten can affect on how slim and toned you look.

And in a recent interview with The timesshe fell for content that makes impressionable teens feel bad about themselves.

“I don’t think TikTok feels pressure at all,” she added.

In particular, Danae pointed out the dangers of “hyper-unposed casual” shots, which, despite being carefully calculated and perhaps even edited, make it seem as if the unrealistic beauty standard put forward was merely a casual, candid shot captured in the moment.

“The more traditionally beautiful, the more perfectly posed, it will attract attention,” the social media star added.

‘People look longer; they watch more. Maybe they feel worse about themselves, so they keep scrolling.”

The outlet added that TikTok had no comment, but emphasized that its community guidelines say “in-app tips on how to identify negative self-talk” are available if a user looks up the word “anorexia” or something similar. MailOnline has also contacted TikTok and Meta for comment.

In a recent one after Last month, Danae – who has more than 2.3 million followers on Instagram – wrote an inspiring message for her viewers.

“What does it mean to ‘look like you’re working out’?” she asked. ‘When I was a teenager, this meant no butt and no body fat.

‘When I was in my twenties it meant curves, all curves, but really just curves on your hips and thighs and as small a waist as possible, please.

‘Girls went to the gym to look like Insta-baddies. Now it’s changing again: apparently ‘thin’ is in and Pilates is trending.

‘So what does it actually mean?… I wanted to remind you that you? Your health? That’s so much more nuanced than a single photo could ever say.’

Elsewhere in June, Danae revealed the poses influencers swear by to look perfect on Instagram while snapping photos at the beach and pool.

In a videoshe revealed the way influencers take photos to make themselves look slimmer at the waist, while ensuring their enviable curves still pop.

For the first pose, Danae recommends hanging her head over the edge of the pool while arching her back, extending her arms and crossing her thigh.

“Summer of secrets – or just another reason not to compare yourself to what you see here,” she wrote.

‘I love Pinterest. But my feed is FULL of shots like this. So I thought I’d recreate some of them for you and explain how they come to be.”

She explained, “I dangle my head OVER the edge of the pool (?!), which allows me to super arch my back. I have my top knee bent over my other leg, which creates an S-curve in my body and makes my stomach look perky.

“Besides, I’m bending and squeezing.”

She then shared a photo of her relaxing by the pool, looking decidedly more natural.

The influencer showed a second pose, grabbed an empty coffee mug, gave herself a wedgie and sat on her toes.

‘I’m sitting on my toes with my back arched, my kiss facing the camera and an empty coffee mug in my hand. I have a wedgeh,” she wrote.

Finally she lay down on the sand and looked out over the sea.

‘This is so uncomfortable because I’m basically lying with my cheek in the sand. But it looks aesthetically pleasing. I bent my upper leg over my lower leg.

‘I oversee everything. My arms are above my head to stretch my body more. And I hold my breath.

‘Look, posing can be so much fun. I do it sometimes and love the art of it.

“But it’s also important not to COMPARE our REAL to their composite, pressed and posed highlight reel. You’re doing fine. Wiggles and wobbles and stuff.”

Danae has previously gone viral for inviting influencers, including an ‘instant BBL’ pose.
