He added: “I have about four other scripts I’m trying to finish. My thing is that I want to take my time and do it well. I don’t want to rush this movie.’

In 2020, news of the next Star Wars installment came out via StarWars.com in celebration of May 4, an unofficial holiday in honor of the series.

The script will be co-written by writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who earned an Oscar nomination for her work at the 1917 January ceremony.

While a release date has yet to be announced, Waititi is no stranger to the George Lucas-created universe.

The Kiwi talent directed the season finale of Disney+’s The Mandalorian and played the role of droid IG-11.

The director/writer/actor has already proven that he can handle a blockbuster with his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thor: Ragnarok grossed $854 million, becoming the highest-grossing film of the Thor trilogy.

Waititi’s latest project is Next Goal Wins, which will be released in January 2024.

Next Goal Wins is based on the true story of the American Samoa football team who infamously lost 31-0 to Australia in a World Cup qualifier.

Set in 2014, the comedy follows the team’s attempt to qualify for that year’s FIFA World Cup after hiring a hapless coach to try to turn around the heirs’ fortunes.

Actor Will Arnett takes on the role of an executive at the American Samoa Football Federation, replacing Armie Hammer for the role, while Michael Fassbender stars as a coach.
