Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams' friendship timeline through the years

Gracie Abrams was a self-proclaimed Swiftie before she actually became friends Taylor Swift.

“Every formative memory in my life involves a Taylor Swift song that got me through,” Abrams said Vanity fair in a July 2023 profile. “My friend recently did a thing where we mixed up her discography and played a song for a second. … I have them all.”

Shortly before they met, Abrams received a call from an unknown number with an invitation to Swift's birthday party. She immediately called a joint producer to confirm the figures were Swift's, before replying in an attempt not to get her hopes up if it wasn't the pop star.

Swift then invited Abrams to be one of her opening acts Eras tourthe three-hour concert about all her previous albums.

“[It was] the best experience of my life,” Abrams said of the concerts during a December 2023 interview Variety. “Having that become part of my weekly routine for four months has spilled over into pretty much every aspect of my life, not just how happy I feel internally, but also the songs we've created.”

November 2022

Swift announced she was touring for the first time in four years, noting on Instagram that she was “enchanted” when she said Abrams was one of her opening acts.

April 2023

Abrams made her Eras tour debut in Houston, featuring a selection of her greatest hits.

July 2023

During Swift's Cincinnati Eras residency, Abrams' set was canceled due to bad weather. Swift, who took the stage earlier than usual, then invited Abrams and Aaron Dessner on stage for a special performance of 'Ivy'.

“She is one of my favorite friends and I love her so much. We haven't sung together before, so I wanted to bring Gracie onstage,” Swift said during the show, noting that Abrams' “I Miss You, I'm Sorry” is one of her favorite songs.

“I actually have no words,” Abrams replied.

November 2023

Shortly after the first American leg of the Eras tour In conclusion, Swift invited Abrams to dinner in New York. They were photographed walking on the Lower East Side on November 13.

Later that month, Abrams confirmed she would join Swift for her 2024 concerts in Canada.

December 2023

“Happy birthday. I love you so much I talk about it all the time,” Abrams wrote via Instagram on Swift's 34th birthday, sharing a selfie taken by the 12-time Grammy winner.
