Taylor Swift reveals Cruel Summer will be her next single… nearly four years after releasing the hit on her 2019 studio album Lover

Taylor Swift revealed which of her former hits will be her next single at her concert in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

During her final performance on The Eras Tour, the 33-year-old singer stopped by to confirm that she will be re-releasing Cruel Summer from her 2019 studio album, Lover.

The singer-songwriter said she had previously planned to release ‘my favorite song’ as a single in the summer of 2020.

The Midnights hitmaker — whose father made $15.1 million from the controversial sale of her back catalog to Scooter Braun in 2019 — explained that due to the pandemic, plans were put on hold.

With the song climbing up the streaming charts, she announced that her record label had made the decision to make Cruel Summer her next single.

“So basically Cruel Summer was on the Lover album,” the Pennsylvania native began. “That album came out four years ago.”

“And I need to let you know something,” she continued. Cruel Summer – that song was my pride on that album. That was my favorite song.’

“You have conversations before the album comes out and everyone around weighs in on what they think singles should be and I was finally about to let my favorite song be Lover’s single,” she explained.

She added, “And I’m not trying to blame the global pandemic that we had, but that’s something that happened that never stopped Cruel Summer from being single.”

Subsequently, the multi-Grammy winner expressed her gratitude to her loyal fans for helping her fulfill her wish.

Swift continued, “So what’s happening now – thanks to you – and frankly no one understands how this is happening, but you’ve streamed Cruel Summer so much now in 2023 it’s on top.

“It’s going so crazy up the streaming charts,” she said. “And my label just decided to make it the next single.”

“It’s really, really confusing for me because I just haven’t experienced anything like this in my career,” she added. “So thank you to everyone who listened to that song like 500 times a day, because it’s my favorite song.”
